  1. I've been doing stocks for about 4 years now. I started out not knowing anything and have done a lot of reading and have become comfortable with buyING and selling standard stocks and have a decent sized portfolio. I was just wondering if anybody else does stocks and knows anything about and uses more advanced techniques, like short selling stocks or dealing in options for instance? I've been weary about delving into anything more when I've got a technique that is working despite the recession.
  2. I second using mint.com. I've been using it for three years and it records everything and keeps all my transactions in easy to visualize charts. Since using it, I've started doing stocks, I've started an IRA, and I've set up separate accounts for various goals; such as retirement, buying a house, travel expenses, and an emergency fund.
  3. Hahaha, that's awesome though. I think this is the first time I've ever been in forums much also... I may be addicted :P

  4. I'm originally from Kentucky. Going back to school there in about a year, a few miles away from Mammoth Cave actually. I love cave country, and all the hiking and rivers. It is a great state if you are a nature lover.
  5. So, is anybody in NerdFitness living in El Salvador or coming to El Salvador? I just got here and wouldn't mind making some local friends or just hanging out with some other like minded travel nerds.
  6. I actually just left Berlin, Germany about two years ago. I was stationed there myself with the military. If you are going to be stationed in Berlin, I can tell you much more. I've been in the military 8 years and have done plenty of moves, at least 3 being permanent station overseas. I am in El Salvador now, actually. As far as TMO, they will come in and pack all your belongings; when you get to Germany. It may take 3 months before you receive these items, depending on how early you are sending them before your departure. So, make sure that you separate everything you are going to want with you immediately from everything that you can wait for. If you don't organize before hand, TMO might accidentally just pack something very important up and it may be a hassle to get it. As far as being in Berlin, I had a great experience. I went to Germany knowing no German whatsoever. When I left I was more fluent in German that I was in French (not at all), which I spent 3 years studying in school. German is very similar to English and with minimal language education, I believe you can pick it up. If you are able, I would suggest only doing the Level 1 German Rosetta Stone, as this is the only thing you will need to begin learning the language. Every thing else you can learn from going in town and speaking at restaurants, to taxis, etc. In Berlin, I would say that 70-80% of Germans understand some English; but maybe less than 50% of them will actually speak to you in English, unless you speak to them in German first. I found that if I made an effort to speak German to some people, I would be surprised when they made an attempt to help me in English. The public transportation systems throughout Germany, especially in the city, is very efficient. Living in Berlin, I would never buy a vehicle because it would take you longer to reach your destination on many occasions, and it would cost you much more. If you have any specifics or questions you would like to ask, feel free. As I said, I recently came from there; I was living there for a year.
  7. Thanks. This is my first forum membership, so I might be overcompensating.:triumphant:

  8. Welcome, Rebel! It really sounds like you've got a sustainable plan! Just stick to the stats and improving and you'll get where you need to go. I always thought it was funny how I could zone out and efficiently grind an RPG character for hours, but when it came to my real life I could hardly obtain the patience or discipline to improve and max out my stats. There is never really a reason to ever use booze or some foods in a game like Fable, for instance; and I don't know many that ever use it. When it comes to real life, despite knowing there are detriments to ones stats, people still drink and eat various things. I don't necessarily say we should stop, as I drink myself; but I just always thought that was funny among us gamers.
  9. Welcome, Rebel. You really have to know where your stress is coming from before you can truly learn to mitigate it. I understand stress very well, as I've been in the military several years now and have obviously had some situations within and out of my control. I've always followed a simple mantra to keep from getting stressed: Change what I can, accept what I can't, learn to know the difference. I've found sometimes that bad things were going to happen in my life and there was nothing I could do to change them from happening, so over time I learned to just focus on passing them. I know that after the storm passes, I will return to the calm where I have control and can continue changing things to my liking. There is a calm in learning to release yourself.
  10. Wait, what? They have "American Football" teams in the UK? This is the first I've heard that. My UK friends just always made fun of the game. Well, welcome aboard and good luck with your goals!
  11. I love how active you are in the forums already! Welcome again :)

  12. Hey Squire, welcome aboard. I think I already replied to a message by you in the Runner's Guild regarding your 5k. Sorry, I got kind of carried away with my reply. I tend to ramble on at times. I think it is totally doable for you to train yourself to complete a 5k in 7 weeks. Just set that as a goal and keep to it. Don't push too hard too early come game day and wear yourself out halfway. That can happen if you pay attention to the other runners and try to keep up. Running is very much an individual art.
  13. Welcome, soldier! I wouldn't worry too much about the military's measure of you being overweight. Their primary measure is based off of height versus weight, which doesn't take into account ones true BMI. It sounds like you were enjoying the running, or at least seeing results you were happy with. Have you considered taking to a bike? It might relieve some of the impact stress on your knees. Knee problems can be common in former military.
  14. Welcome aboard! And don't be embarrassed about using videos. You should have seen when me and another group of about 7 Marines were following P90X together. It was often the P90X yoga, too, which just had the ability of looking very funny! If we can follow videos, then you can too! If anybody trys to make fun of you, tell em the Marines do it!
  15. I guess I will have to use the word truncate a little more, or was it just vocabulary in general?
