  1. Week 0 was pretty much a win . I still need help with the food battles of prepping and planning. This is going to be a hard habit to overcome. On the bright side, I have not had a Kit Kat all week and that Yuuge for me! I did make 10,000 steps - 6 days out of 7. I have enjoyed walking the wetland trails each morning and have progressed from 3 mile walks to 5 mile walks. This has actually made jogging easier for me as well training for my 2 mile Jingle Bell Run. I found a weight bench and weights on Craigslist to add to my weightlifting arsenal. I am doing a 4 day split routine I found online in addition to alternating with the body weight exercises. I went to the library and found a book on one person's adventure to learning Italian entitled "La Bella Linga, My Love Affair With Italian, The World's Most Enchanting Language". It's been a great read exploring the history of the language as it evolved from Latin and the nuances of the language that are hard to understand as a foreigner. Like our "raining cats and dogs" Italian has its own quirky sayings that are pretty funny and interesting. I haven't been tracking water intake exactly but I am drinking more than before. I'll call that a win in my book. I went exploring/walking in a new town and took out lunch at a restaurant that was new to me and ate at a picnic table on the water watching the boats pass by. That was my week 0 adventure Stay warm everyone who isn't in Florida!
  2. Future goals are great. I'm cheering for you. I'm 51 as well. It's never too late to start IMHO. Best of luck.
  3. Great post. I'm in Florida and it's actually pleasant walking weather finally. My goal is 10,000 steps a day and I've gotten up to 5 mile walks per day. I signed up for a seven race series through the Running Zone and I have a 2 miler jingle bell run Dec 17. I understand the snooze dilemma, my Garmin goes off at 6 and my phone alarm at 6:30 but I'm not rolling out until 6:40. I'm trying to up the water intake as well. I'm cheering you on from the South! 4. Today was a good day. I did my 3 mile walk in the wetlands again to help me reach the 10,000 daily step goal. I saw three alligators in the water, one sunning on the bank and best of all NO SNAKES! I have to admit that the bodyweight challenge yesterday combined with my walks have me feeling all kinds of muscles that I haven't felt in awhile. It's all good though and I feel stronger and more "together" already. I have had nothing but water all week. I am on track with the Bible reading and journaling. I hope to spend some time tomorrow trying to figure out how an old dog learns a new language. If you have any suggestions, I would love to hear them. My son is in his second year of Latin in school and I would love to take a European trip either before or after graduation so he can see all the places he is learning about on a family trip. I went to Germany years ago and visited the Porta Nigra, the northern most Roman outpost and would love to see it again. My adventurer side is feeling hopeful.
  5. Welcome and good luck! This is my first challenge too.
  6. Awesome goals. My husband graduated with an Asian studies degree and took 4 years of Japanese. He joined the Air Force hoping to be stationed in Japan but was sent to Alaska instead where he met me, a fellow Ohioan. Go figure. We've been married 16 years. This is my first challenge as well. Good luck! Enjoy San Diego. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
  7. Italian. The language of love and spaghetti.
  8. Week Zero Day One: I’m calling this day a success fitnesswise and a big adventure at that. After dropping off the boy at school, I headed to the Viera Wetlands for my morning walk. I was hoping to see a few gators but initially, nothing but birds, pretty birds, but just birds. Ten minutes into my walk I see a guy in a golf cart parked at the side of the road looking at something. As I approached, he said there was a cottonmouth snake curled up in the grass with head held high. I put the brakes on asking if I continued on down the road if he thought said snake would chase me. He didn’t think so and I tip-toed by praying that I would not be seeing another snake. I hate snakes. Alligators don’t scare me, snakes are another story. I am around the 2.5 mile mark when the golf cart guy approaches again. His first words were “It’s getting Wild Kingdom out here.” He says he was filming the snake, just put down his phone and along comes a huge hawk, grabs the cottonmouth, and takes off with it. He got a picture of it flying with said snake, but no video. I was thankful I would not be passing by a venomous snake again but a little wary that I could possibly find a snake falling from the sky. What if the snake bites the bird mid flight, what happens then? How does a hawk eat a snake anyway? Tomorrow, I think I will try a beach walk instead, I’ve never run into a deadly crab although on the news today they said a Cuban raft was found yesterday on Pelican Beach. Never a dull day on the Space Coast…
  9. I am so excited to be here on my first challenge! I found Nerd Fitness by reading a blog post that popped up on my Feedly feed. Who knew it was going to end up with me posting on a website about my monthly goals. My present state: I lost my mother in July. She was 1 month and 1 day shy of her 80th birthday. She was a unique woman who inspired people to get out and do the things they love. I want people to remember me as someone who enjoyed life, took advantage of all the opportunities she could and had a smile for everyone she met. Unfortunately, since her death I have gained 15 lbs putting me at 184 at 5’3”, this is a ridiculous weight and I want to be, in the next 12 months, down to 150 and healthy most importantly. I’m enjoying the different guilds and I think I will have to be a rebel for awhile. I find my future me wants to be a triune of Adventurer, Scout and Ranger. I love adventure and those boy-scout-like quests really appeal to me. I would like to think I could survive in the woods if I ever got lost and have the stamina to walk the longest distance to get out. Anything outdoors is a win for me. This month, I am looking to make healthier diet choices and increase my water intake. I love to walk and bike. In order to meet my quest of 10,000 steps a day, I know that I have to do a dedicated 3 mile walk to get there on a daily basis. My sleep habits are pretty bad right now. I spend way too many hours reading news articles on my phone before bed and then can’t get to sleep. I think all electrons need to be stored before 8 p.m. I think my husband would agree : ) December Challenge: Diet · Healthy snack in carline. No Kit Kats allowed. · No more than 1 soda per week. · Fish for dinner 2x a week. · Water only with meals. Fitness · Beginner bodyweight workout 3x a week. · 10,000 steps 5 days a week. Life · Read the Bible and journal 5 days a week. · Dishes in dishwasher and kitchen clean each night before bed. · No electronics after 8 p.m. Nerd Fitness · Complete one quest per week.
