1. Heh, love the concept for this one! And is that first photo of a doormat? That's brilliant!
2. In that case (in addition to talking to a trainer) I might suggest taking a trip to the vet - sudden behaviour changes can be related to health problems (if the dog is in pain, they may be more likely to react aggressively).
3. Had the dog had any history of biting or aggression towards humans prior to the incident with the grandmother?
4. For what it's worth, I've flipped through a copy of YAYOG once and I think the bigger issue someone might have with it as a starting point is less about the programming (which TBH looks pretty reasonable to me) and more about the fact that the moves/positions are illustrated with photos of a man who is wearing and enormously large shirt - and that makes it impossible to actually see what he's doing with his body.
5. A belated welcome, tibi! I love the amount of detail you put into your outline - such a perfect way to plan it all out and to analyze your results once it's all over!
6. Happy Monday! In household project news, in addition to doing an absurd amount of gardening this weekend (I swear we're never buying a house with this much required upkeep ever again!), we also built ourselves a new pull-up bar. The old doorway one: (I swear we're going to replace those horrible 90s bathroom fixtures one of these days...) The new basement ceiling/supplies from the plumbing shop one: And from the other side:
7. True, but playing with words in order to get attention is what the fitness industry does too, so if the idea is to point out a difference, why mirror that technique? Yes, that's a rhetorical question since yeah, the answer is "to get attention", obviously (and to be entertaining, since it's also mocking the people who aren't willing to work for whatever result). I just wonder if it's entirely the right attention (completely aside from my "Whatever, I'm not boring" first response. I mean, I totally agree with the power of habit/having a routine, but I'm probably not the target audience and that's totally fair). After all, there are people out there who get no exercise because they think it's boring and this would just confirm that, no?
8. I dunno. I realize this is probably arguing semantics, but I don't think having a routine is synonymous with boring. Eating your favourite food every day? That's not tedious, that's one of the awesome parts of being an adult! Going for a walk or run every morning? That's not dull - You meet your neighbours, you watch the seasons change, see wildlife or watch buildings go up! Honestly, I'd say that if you're bored, you're doing it wrong! Infomercial products may be unnecessary, but plenty of people find exciting non-fad ways of working out (sports, anyone?). Or put another way: If someone else's idea of "boring" is your idea of fun, why are you accepting their definition instead of your own?
9. Eh, I'll admit to buying those cupcake things once in a while. They're hardly health food, but I'm not an absolutist when it comes to diet, so it doesn't bother me (it's a different producer/different recipe here, but it's still junk). Various Hostess-branded products (not twinkies, but most of the others) are owned/produced by two different companies (so wonderbread and the snack cakes have separate owners) here in Canada, and they're surviving. From the articles I've seen it looks like it was more about business practices than anything else (although responding to health trends is part of that, but certainly not the whole story). The idea of celebrating it as a success for the fitness/health scene seems a little far from the truth to me. And in any case, as Atalan said, someone else will probably buy out the brand, so I'd be surprised not to continue seeing those same products staying on the shelves in the US as well.
10. Mmmmm... chocolate croissants... Now I need to make a trip to the bakery! In solidarity with you, of course!
11. Impressive work in 5 months! And happy belated birthday! I have to ask: What kind of trees are you climbing?
12. Are you ever tempted to make monkey noises when you're training the monkey vault? It seems like it would be so tempting!
13. Your circuit sounds seriously bouncy! Do you use music when you're going through it?
14. Thanks, guys! Heh, in a traditional D&D-style RPG I'd say that the dog and I would definitely be rangers - but based on the guild philosophies here on NF we're assassins all the way! Updates: Goal 1 Day 1: 4/3/4/2/5 Day 2: 1/2/2/1 (rest day) Day 3: 4/3/3/4/5 Today: 1/2/2/1 (rest day) Goal 2 Using myplate, but I think I'll switch over to using fitocracy again: more fun! Goal 3 Nothing to report Goal 4 On hold until Sunday
15. Push ups! Woot! Good luck with your other goals as well. I like the way you talked through your starting points - always good to have those details to compare back to!
16. Thanks! Always good to see the other dog lover's here! I used to have a white pittie as well! You're right, my current beastie is a GSP -He's my bouncy hiking/hunting/trail running companion.
17. Nice goals! Will you posts photos of the mini-aquarium when it's complete?
18. So, since my vacation time took up most of the last challenge, I'm mostly reworking things that I didn't have time to move forward with the last time around.
Item Goal Points Notes Fitness 1 Complete the Twenty Pullup Challenge +3 STR + 2 STA Sitting at 9 currently. Fitness 2 Activity Tracking +2 WIS +2 CHA I used to do more of this, so I thought I'd try to get back into it since changes in the weather mean that the beast and I are less likely to make our standard 12.5km/day average. Life 1 Take care of the health stuff +1 WIS +2 CON Among other things, I've had this one bloodwork requisition form sitting on my desk for 7.5 months now. Life 2 Clean the office +1 WIS +2 CHA Beginning week 2 as I currently have a guest staying in there.
And my usual shot of the beast getting ready for some play time:
19. Love your life goal - that'll be interesting stuff! And off-topic, but I think I may love the new avatar even more than I loved the t-rex!
20. So you didn't really run out of ass puns!
21. Welcome back! How was the honeymoon? I like the details of your grading plan. Solid stuff!
22. I have seen non-photo galleries on Flickr, so I think it's fair game.
