  1. So when I was home over the winter, I discovered NerdFitness and loved it. I was inspired to eat better and work out, and I felt great. Naturally, when I went back to school, I wanted to keep being fit, so I joined the gym. Surprisingly, this is where I went wrong. Joining the gym changed my mentality, from fitness and health being a part of my life, to fitness being something I go do. I started eating worse because, hey, I was working harder, right? And all my habits and aspirations went down the drain, except for the three hours a week I spent working out. I didn't realize any of this until I cancelled my gym membership. Earlier today. I actually cancelled it because I took on another job and won't have a good time to walk over there (as I'll only be free at night and as a lone woman that walk is a no-go in the dark). But now I'm really glad I did. Looking forward to a life of no excuses!
  2. Further reviving this thread. I have two stories. First, the other day, it was raining outside. Like, really pouring. But, I really needed to buy some groceries - I was completely out. And as I don't own a car, this would require me walking to the store, which is about two miles away one-way. I did not want to walk in the rain. But then I was like, "What the heck - I need food." And so I put on my coat and my hood and made the trek. I was soaked all the way through by the time I got there. Needless to say, I bought an umbrella for the way back, which made it a little less unpleasant. But after it was all over, despite the cold, I felt awesome. And today I joined the gym. I am super shy and nervous about doing things I've never done before, and almost talked myself out of it, but before I thought too much I went and did it. It was kind of annoying, though, 'cause it took way longer than planned to get set up (as they wanted to give me the whole song and dance to get me on their programs and spend more money), and by then I was reconsidering (amidst inner screams of "I know what I'm doing, just leave me alone and let me work out!). But then I worked out and it was great and I felt awesome. So yeah. Now I have to survive the rest of their song and dance on Monday. *rolls eyes*
  3. Okay, SO, over this next week I'm moving and will have to re-adjust my lifestyle again. So I probably won't be posting. I also might start a bullet journal. Which is also why I might stop posting. So until next time, Hailey out.
  4. Just spent my morning looking up bullet journaling. Looks like a great way to combine all the journals and lists I end up making anyways. Great. Now I need one.
  5. Day 12 Food Tea? Check. Breakfast: Eggs and milk. Lunch: Leftover chicken soup (the last of it) Dinner: Steak and a sweet potato. Snacks: Banana Activity Yoga: 15:44 Handstand practice [X] Workout day? No. - [ ] Today's Little Victories I went for a short hike today! It felt so nice to go for a walk outside.
  6. Day 11 Food Tea? Got it. Breakfast: Yogurt and a banana. Lunch: Asian salad and leftover chicken soup. Dinner: Bacon and a waffle, with milk. Staying with your parents is hard. They don't get the "low carb" thing. Snacks: Cashews (post-workout) Activity Yoga: 15:51 Handstand practice [X] Workout day? Yes. - [X] Today's Little Victories Biggest victory: got my dad to the gym. Yes. Also I upped the reps on some of my workout exercises, and started switching my pushups to real ones instead of knee ones. And I didn't eat any snacks at Bible study. Winning!
  7. Day 10 Food Tea? No sugar or milk. Boom. Breakfast: Eggs with cheese and spinach, and milk. Lunch: Banana and some ground beef I was cooking. Dinner: Chicken quesadilla. The family wanted to go out tonight. I'm really feeling it now though. Ew. Snacks: Cashews Activity Yoga: 21:04 Handstand practice [X] Workout day? No. - [ ] Today's Little Victories Beat 20 minutes on yoga! Yeeeeaaaaaah! Also, I notice how unhealthy food affects me. This should motivate me to eat better.
  8. Day 9 Food Tea? Tried a new tea today that was nasty without help. So...yeah. :/ Breakfast: Yogurt and a banana. Lunch: Chicken and carrots. Dinner: Chicken soup with carrots and spinach. Snacks: Milk (pre-workout), and a brownie (but seriously the best brownie I've ever had.) Activity Yoga: 14:00 Handstand practice [X] Workout day? Yes. - [X] Today's Little Victories I met a geochacher today. It was inspiring to hear her talk about her finds. I can't wait to find one of my own someday.
  9. My goals are pretty simple: lose fat, gain muscle, look awesome and feel awesome. But yeah, when I worked out today I definitely saw places I could take up a notch. But it is nice to know that soreness isn't imperative.
  10. Okay, so here's the thing: I've been doing a bodyweight circuit routine, which I occasionally add weights to, and I love it. I get through all three rounds and am completely exhausted afterwards. I couldn't do another squat even if I wanted to! Wobbling limbs and everything. However, I am rarely, if at all, sore - either on the day of the workout or the next one. I feel perfectly fine once the exhaustion wears off. Am I doing this right? Should I be adding something, or changing something up? I feel like if I'm not sore, I'm not accomplishing anything, though this mindset can be incorrect as well. Just looking for wisdom from people who know things.
  11. Day 9 Food Tea? Rocked it. Just had it plain. It's getting easier now. Breakfast: Eggs and hash browns. Lunch: Leftover whole grain pizza. Dinner: Cheeseburger with some carrot sticks. Snacks: None. Activity Yoga: 17:03 Handstand practice [X] Workout day? No. - [ ] Today's Little Victories I took a nap today. I didn't even plan to, but I took a nap. And I kind of missed working out. Will definitely go tomorrow.
  12. Haha you'll probably see me around sometime. I'm a total introvert, even online, so becoming part of the community here will be a process. But I'm sure that if I'm diligent, it will happen.
  13. Kind of both. My dad eats super unhealthy, so my mom had a hard time getting us as kids to eat our vegetables as well. I never even tried to start eating vegetables regularly until this last year. But it is working. I'm finding that what I did is very similar to the NF guide How to Start Eating Vegetables. I started this before I found Nerd Fitness, but it's basically the same process. Find one you like, get used to eating it, add another, etc. I did consider it, though instead I started a daily log in the Daily Battle Logs area of the forums. I probably will do a challenge sometime in the future though.
  14. Day 7 Food Tea? Did milk and sugar this morning. It was a rough morning. Breakfast: Oatmeal and a banana. Lunch: Chicken salad Dinner: Teriyaki chicken and rice with an Asian coleslaw Snacks: Yogurt post-gym. Activity Yoga: 18:19 Handstand practice [X] Workout day? Yes - [X] Today's Little Victories I completed three circuits of my workout by not using weight on squats. Yay! Finally! Also I finally got to be able to listen to my music while I work out. Double-win! I'm learning that going to the gym might be a pain, but being there is freakin' awesome. Always.
  15. Yeah feel free to use my format! I'm glad I can be of help! And you're so right, ditching the app is so great. It allows me to focus better on what I am doing, which right now is mostly healthy eating and strength training. Good luck on your endeavors!
