  1. Have I mentioned how much I love Gogol Bordello? Because my god, I love Gogol Bordello http://www.nerdist.com/2010/07/gogol-bordello-pala-tute/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=gogol-bordello-pala-tute
  2. I'm in the same boat. I'll be back on the wagon soon, I kinda miss being working on getting fit, but other stresses knocked me down and I haven't been able to kick-start myself back yet.
  3. I'm that guy who does stand-up in the ATL. Please let me know when your set is, I love watching new people join the scene. Where are you going to perform?
  4. Midnight showing tonight, and possibly seeing it again at the drive-in tomorrow.
  5. Yeah... This challenge didn't work out for me. I was inconsistent, a little too lazy, and stressed out this month which meant I didn't put the work in I needed to. On the plus side, I managed to keep a lot of the little changes I made during the last challenge. I was very good about eating breakfast and cutting out soda, and my overall eating habits were more healthy. I didn't exercise every day, but I did get it in a few times a week. My weight stayed the same all month. So while I didn't rise to this challenge, over the past 2 months, I have picked up some positive habits, to the point that my current lifestyle seems far more stable than my previous one. D for the challenge, C+ for the month as a whole
  6. Yesterday: Breakfast was some fruit and grain bars from Kroger that I had lying around my desk. Lunch was a chilie relleno, a side salad, a taco and refried beans (El Potro's with co-workers) Handful of almonds in the afternoon. Dinner was red beans and rice. Exercise was 10 minutes cardio, 30 squats, 20 pushups and 30 lunges.
  7. I think yesterday went well: Breakfast was a veggie omlette and 4 cups of coffee Lunch was the worst meal, 2 fresco tacos from Taco Bell. I was running errands and had to grab something quick. I snacked on Almonds during the afternoon, and had leftover chicken caesar salad for a snack when I got home. Dinner was vermicelli with homemade sauce (crushed tomatoes, chopped pepper, onion, and garlic, salt, pepper, basil, white wine, chicken stock) For exercise I went to the park to run. I ran a mile, in quarter mile sections, walking an eighth of a mile between. Not a lot, but better than I used to be able to do, and, I also exercised outside in public, which is a huge step for me.
  8. I've got an eclectic mix, but some of my favorites include: Little bit of Punk: NOFX, Bad Religion, Green Day, The CLash, Ramones, Golgol Bordello, Dropkick Murphys, Flogging Molly, Me First and the Gimmie Gimmies, Violent Femmes. 90's Ska: Reel Big Fish, Mighty Mighty Bosstones Stuff I grew up listening to: Harry Chapin, Billy Joel, Simon and Garfunkel, Don McLean Rock: The Fratellis, Ben Folds, Barenaked Ladies, Josh Clayton-Felt, Lily Allen Other: Leonard Cohen, Magnetic Fields, Man Man, Nellie McKay, They Might be Giants, Tom Waits. But really, I listen to whatever strikes me at the moment. As far as musical go, despite being a theatre nerd, I'm not a huge fan of the genre. But Godspell, Drood, Wicked, Avenue Q, and a couple others get some play. I only play kazoo however. But I'm the best kazoo player you've seen.
  9. Did a good job during the week last week, but my weekend was a bust. Nerd confluence hit with me being at a roleplaying table most of Saturday, and in the Atlanta trivia tournament on sunday. This week gets no excuses though. Nothing planned for this weekend (besides Free Comic Book Day, W00t!) and laying low on going out.
  10. This sounds like a project for the community. High impact fat burning sarcasm workouts! "No, this weight isn't heavy at all. I'm just grunting because I'm working on my orc impression" "Lost weight by exercising and eating right? No, my beer belly was just abducted by aliens. I'm just sitting here waiting for it to come back."
  11. Oh... Well that's not fair at all. He's a machine. It's not like he's trying to work off an Energon gut. I do agree though. Optimus Prime would lift weight. And haul it cross country.
  12. Hi! Welcome aboard. That is some truly impressive weight loss. Congratulations. WWOPD? What would Ostrich Poachers do? What would Orphaned Pygmies do? What would Old-school Pirates do? When Will Our Pudginess Decline?
  13. Sort of a recovering theatre person, and a current stand up comedian. Not a musician unless you count kazoo and hand drum. Us performer types are discussing current projects over on this thread http://www.nerdfitness.com/community/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=307
  14. I'm off Briarcliff near Emory. Tomorrow's hash is probably out (and who can legitimately costume in just one day?), but next Wednesday sounds fun unless I end up having a show. Send me the details, please.
  15. I'm in Atlanta too, so I've already checked out the links you've posted elsewhere. This will be happening soon.
  16. It's probably too late for this year (and it's a weekend you're busy), but I know DragonCon also does "fan tables" that don't cost much. Just a place to set up for a bit and promote your whatever, but it completely hits your demographic.
  17. Welcome aboard. I've been considering hashing, because I love the idea of combining my exercise with people who I can drink beer with. That and I appreciate foolishness in large groups. How do you go about joining a group? And what's the normal length of run?
  18. Sean: Wow, even more impressive. Heather/Steve: Thanks. Wednesday's set was absolutely awesome. Killed it completely. I'll have the video up eventually and post a link.
  19. I can dig it. Palpable "the office" style awkwardness is really hard to do, but that was pretty good. Did you improvise that, or was it a scripted bit that came from some improv?
  20. Last week was a bit of a wash. Was pretty good watching my food intake, but that's about it. Between the pollen and the stess I just didn't have any energy. And since it was the first week I could drink beer again after giving it up for Lent, I may have had a few too many a few too often. Calling it a C-. This week is already starting out good though. Got exercise in before work today.
  21. Several, actually, although I do have one that most of the song was based off of. It was her griping about being called african-american when she's Jamaican that inspired the bit. Yes, your average amateur stand-up is kind of a painful thing to watch, at least until they've got about 20 sets under their belt and either learn or have given up. I'd like to think I'm in the upper percentile. If I win at this Wednesday's show, I'll be doing a set at the Dogwood festival this Friday too. I'll keep you posted.
  22. First off, because I know lots of nerdfitness rebels are in Atlanta, I wanted to promote the fact that I'm going to be in the Semifinals for the Dogwood festival homegrown comedy challenge this wednesday, April 14th at the Laughing Skull Lounge. Tickets available at http://www.vortexcomedy.com Here's a clip from the first round. (I can't get it to embed, so there's the link.) So that's my creative outlet. What do you do? Any performers here? Writers? People with etsy stores? Show us what you got.
  23. I've been told they put on the most amazing live show ever. Last time they were in Atlanta I had a gig scheduled that night and couldn't go see them. I was pissed. I just want to see that energy transferred to a whole room of people.
  24. My taste in music is a little eclectic, but lately I've been into: Golgol Bordello, a gypsy punk type thing. Start Wearing purple: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sM1Ahn0Osjo American wedding: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o76YbAfFfJ8 The Fratellis. British, a little more poppy than I normally like, but truly infectious and a lot of fun. Henrietta: Whistle for the choir: Man Man, which is certainly an acquired taste, but I totally dig the sort of "polka from hell" thing, and their more melodic stuff is pretty catchy. Reminds me of Tom Waits without being hardly anything at all like Tom Waits Banana Ghost: Van Helsing Boombox: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n-E96HDW7mI
  25. It's usually not an issue for me. I'll have one or two a weekend. However, last night I had a stand up set at the Star Bar (a small dive bar in Atlanta). I bombed the last time I was there, the only real bombing of my career so far. None of my friends could make it out, so I bought a pack of cigarettes because I was nervous as hell and sitting in a bar watching comedy you either need to drink or smoke and I couldn't drink straight through the night because I needed to get home. So yeah, I smoked half a pack last night and feel like crap today. No more this week.
