  1. Nice! Good luck! Honestly, all A's isn't too complicated. I went from a 1.8 GPA in high school to a 3.5 in Community College to a 4.0 at a good University. You just have to go to class, pay attention, and give yourself enough time to study and write your papers. Easier said than done, but if you go to class every day, sit in the front, and participate, your professors will grade you better and be more lenient if you mess up. You will also have to study less :). I've read about many folks seriously improving their anxiety by supplementing Magnesium. Just something to google if you haven't already :). Regarding meal planning, you probably already know this already, but you can save a ton of time and money with a slowcooker and cheap ingredients like beans and rice/quinoa. Good luck!
  2. I just got some really nice compression shorts and pants from Gym Super Heroes. Quality is better than Under Armour which really surprised me. I've also seen a few goodies at Marshalls and TJ Maxx :).
  3. There are loads of calcium in vegetables like broccoli, and most alternative milks have extra added to them. Be careful of getting too much calcium. The dairy industry has helped to create the idea that "calcium builds strong bones" when the academic literature on that is mixed. There are some studies that show increased calcium intake is linked with osteoporosis in older folks (while others show the opposite). Many people get too much calcium & salt and not enough potassium and magnesium (especially magnesium).
  4. Play around with what works best for you. I get a ton of energy when I meditate (feels like electricity shooting through my body) so I won't fall asleep if I do it in the PM.
  5. The Vega Sport Preworkout works really well for me, but I try to avoid it because it's so expensive and I don't like to rely on caffeine too much. It has yerba mate, green tea, coconut seed (for fat), curcumin, and a bunch of adaptogenic herbs like ashwaganda.
  6. I was clinically depressed with generalized anxiety disorder for years. It went away completely 1 month after trying a gluten-free diet at a doctor's suggestion. Foods can cause all sorts of inflammatory responses, some of which can affect the brain. Further, the bacterial ecosystem in the gut is showing to have a critical role in neurotransmitter production and mental health overall. ~80% of the body's serotonin is created in the gut. I can dig up some pubmed articles if y'all are interested. There was one interesting one where they improved depressive symptoms with yogurt (proper yogurt) and probiotic supplements. It's still very early days for this research but it seems promising. There's one theory that suggests there is a bacteria in the gut that breaks down gluten, but is missing in many people these days due to overuse of antibiotics, cesare an section*, and other practices the hurt the microbiome. *Baby's are bathed in their mother's bacteria when born traditionally, this is circumvented with a c-section.
  7. Congrats! I think alcohol is much worse than most people realize. You will feel a lot better without it.
  8. Lol saw a sponge that was certified gluten-free, meaning they actually paid to have it certified. The thing with gluten-free is that people like myself can have a reaction to tiny amounts of gluten. So if those apples were cut on a cutting board that has a speck of wheat on it, I will get sick. However, I don't know why a sponge would be anywhere near wheat during it's manufacturing cycle. Gluten-Free is definitely seen as "healthy" to the vast majority of uninformed people, even though gluten-free foods are often less healthy than their gummy cousins as they normally just replace the wheat with rice which is far less nutritious. Also, fat free product usually have loads of sugar which is cheaper for the company to manufacturer, and worse for your body.
  9. Hey! I've been lurking here for a while after using the app and decided to finally make an account! I had been slowly warming up to the idea of working out regularly and now that I've got into the habit I figured I'd make an account here to keep myself motivated :). I work in psychology, I love music and art, retro video games (Sega all day!) and Indian food :). I've been vegan and gluten free for about 4-5 years now which has helped tremendously with some chronic illnesses I've had (mostly cutting the gluten and dairy, turns out I have very bad non-celiac gluten sensitivity). My exercise routine is an extended version of Dan Millman's Peaceful Warrior Workout that I do every morning, along with sun salutations and push-ups. I've also started playing DDR regularly which I never thought I would be doing, but it's super fun and can definitely make you break a sweat! I've bought wrist weights to work my arms a bit while I'm playing. I also skateboard semiregularly but it's not great exercise to be honest. It would be if I cared about improving haha. Happy to be here and looking forward to interacting more with all of you!
