Yay, you're alive!
I too have recently gotten back into the gymnatorium, and one of the things that has helped me the most with my squats was adding a few sets of BW squats at the end. Here are my thoughts on programming...
1) Are you planning on using the Squat/Bench/DL set up three days a week? Or would you alternate deads with rows and bench with overhead work?
2) Would you be opposed to dropping back to an empty bar and adding the 5lbs everyday routine? Since you have CousinC working with you, you could both start at that and alternate sets without changing weights.
3) For accessories on that setup, I'd throw in some sort of rows for sure. and as for the curls, I wouldn't worry about barbell vs DB, unless you're planning on selling tickets to the gun show. Curls are good for getting blood flowing throwing your arms (the pump) which is good for the elbows after a hard press/pull session.
Anywho, them's my thoughts. I hope they helped.

I got almost zero sleep last night, so I made the executive decision to move today's workout to tomorrow, and probably DLs to Saturday again. Or, another option is to do some bodyweight stuff tonight and have it count as my workout and keep DL's on Friday. We'll see how I feel when I get home this evening.
Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go curl up in the corner of my office and sleep.

I wouldn't worry so much about the lift, if you get it, huzzah! If you don't, life goes on and you'll have a good goal to work towards. And sometimes you have to fail at something to prove how badass you are.
And I will have two plates of that food, please and thank you.

luckily I don't pee on my floor so I don't feel like I have that issue.
That's a good policy.
Those e-cloths sound awesome. I might have to look into getting some, you should be a spokesperson for them.
I also forgot to cook last night. I had big plans for cooking all of my lunches for the week, and realized I hadn't done anything for those plans around 9:30 last night. I've got some black beans going in the crock pot now though. Maybe I can salvage the rest of my meals.
Oh, the only downside to the e-cloths was my hands were really dry after. But it could have been from dealing with boiling water. Or my hands being so wet for so long. But that was the only downside.
Also, I bought running shoes on Groupon this weekend. I know, who does that? But they're very similar to the style I bought last, and Asics have always been the best fit for me running shoe-wise. So I'm hopeful they'll be a good choice. I ruined my last pair in sand volleyball after a monsoon. So stupid. And I really want to start running again as soon as it cools off. So the stars have aligned, apparently.
I've been having problems with dry skin lately, one finger on my left hand keeps cracking open if I'm not putting stuff on it everyday (which reminds me, I should probably do that) Mrs. Power thinks its from me washing dishes, which is possible I suppose
I'm toying with the idea of running more myself.I may start up a C25K thing again, this all depends on me getting out of bed earlier on my non-gym days though, so that'll probably shut this plan down.

that is super frustrating. its a waste of time and money to continually edit those reports. and THEN they sometimes (*cough* FL DEP *cough*) won't let you DO anything remedial while you fix the million nitpicky things and the release has now migrated to 10 other properties!!
okay. i'm totally exaggerating but I feel your pain.
Saturday's workout (8/16/14)
Deadlift:
135 lbs X 5 reps
185X5
225X5
275X3
315X3
365X2 (swapped to mixed grip)
405X1
405X1
Everything felt good up until the second single at 405 I might have pushed a little much at that point, but I was still pretty fired up, so I stretched for a bit, then just walked on the track for 30 minutes or so.
Monday's workout (8/18/14)
Squats:
45 X 10
75 X 10
105 X 8
135 X 5
165 X 3
195 X 1
225 X 1
BW X 10 reps X 3 sets
Everything felt bad this morning, my hips were tight, and refused to loosen up much at all. My legs also weren't recharging very well, at first I just wasn't resting enough between sets, but I never could get it right after that. More walking happened afterwards.
I've been forgetting to put my sheet with my numbers back into my workout notebook, so I haven't really been following my 5/3/1 stuff the last couple of weeks. That's been taken care of now. I also haven't been doing my one night of mobility or yoga. I have been doing a lot better with my warm up and cool down mobility, and I can tell that it has helped a lot. All in all I'm feeling pretty good with how this challenge is going so far.

Congrats on hitting the 145 stone! And it sounds like you've got a good plan going into the competition.

I just went my entire gif folder (175 tabs for those curious) to find the best gif to help you feel better. This is what I came up with.

I just did the ankle mobility test and learned a couple of things. My mobility is pretty good, my left leg was touching the wall, but I don't know how much further it could have gone before my heel picking up. My right leg felt like it had a lot of stretch left in it. The other thing I learned was that I wore two different kinds of socks today.

I've been following via the email updates so I just saw this!
and this is adorable! my dog is the same way when the foam roller comes out.
The geology joke always sticks with me.
I'm in for fight club!
Oh man, now you've got me wanting to go back and re-watch Hot Shots Part Deux for the millionth time! I don't understand how spoof comedy has fallen so far these days...
Me too!
Sweet! We've got a whole crew now!
Ok, so the last couple of days have been NUTS, I've been dealing with a project manager at the state office who is just super nit picky on all of the reports we send him. It's one thing to have data wrong, but its another thing entirely to have me edit my report three times because you don't like the way a sentence is worded. Anywho, I got up to go to the gym this morning, and was dragging ass through my workout, so I just said F it, and went back to bed. I'll do my deadlifts in the morning.

Find a strongman group. It is The Best Thing.
This is a good starting point, but this list is not complete, a lot of strongman training is hidden in crossfit boxes too.
I like what Kalle is doing with that site, sadly there isn't anything close to me. Although through their facebook page I recently found out that there is a Highland Games group pretty close to me. Maybe I should look into their stuff a little closer.
Ugh, college gym woes. That's not fun. Thurs night, Friday night, and weekend mornings are good times. I vaguely remember, when I was a wee college girl, that Thirsty Thursday was a big deal. My guess is it's the same since drinking is always in fashion.
Good job on the workout! And really good job playing it smart. I feel like, "live to fight another day" is common theme in many a warrior thread lately. It's a good one.
And OF COURSE you should start a fight club. How is that even a question?!
My first rule of fight club will be: Tell everybody about fight club, brag about that shit!

I made it to the gym again this morningMy left shoulder was wonky during my warmups this morning, so I decided I would lay off anything overhead for the day, so I tried some incline benching for a bit, and had not problems. Then I moved on to some tricep and bicep work for a little extra something to do.
DB Incline Bench:
35 lbs X 12 reps
40 X 8
40 X 8
45 X 6
45 X 6
Blue band pulldowns:
3 sets of 10 with two second holds at the bottom.
Hammer Curls:
3 sets of 10 @ 30lbs.
Apparently my body has gotten so efficient this week that it has decided that it doesn't need to sleep anymore. I don't know what's going on, but I only got a couple of hours in last night, and it's been pretty fitful all week.
-
Ouch! Sorry to hear that, hopefully you'll be back in top form soon!
-
And I'm jelli of your option of having ground kangaroo!
-
Oh, so this is where you've been hanging out. I'm here now.
AND you got to DL and row?
My god... it's like Valhalla there
I think you mean Swolehalla, where the swole may lift forever.

OMG. So funny! I forgot that reference was in the divorce episode.
Also, I don't know if this is something you'd ever want to do, but when I used to workout at the college gym, I'd go on Friday evenings with my bro-in-law after work (If I remember right, we met around 6 or 6:30). It was dead because everyone was either already day drunk, or getting ready to go out. It might help with one day, anyway.
I also used to love this Friday night bootcamp (at the Y, post-college). There were enough people to keep the class going, but just barely. I could stop by on my way home (I believe that class was at 5 or 5:30). It was a nice way to get in a workout and avoid crowds at least once, plus it always set me up for a better weekend. (Even if I did go out and drink after. Hahaha! To be in my 20s again.)
Fridays may not be your gig, though.
I used to use Saturday morning's pretty much the same way you used Friday nights. It's a good time to get in and do what you want.
Lately I've kind of been wanting to join a group something. I keep thinking about some form of self defense, but there aren't really any that I want to do anywhere near me. Maybe I should just start a fight club or something.

Ok, so, I hate my new gym, well hate is a strong word. I just really dislike it when it's crowded in there. This gym is also attached to the local college, so the closer we get to school being back in, the more people are there. I had to take some serious steps to avoid these crowds. So I went back to morning workouts.
Squats:
45 lbs X 10 reps
75 X 5
105 X 5
135 X 5
165 X 5
195 X 3
225 X 3
BW X 10 X 4.
Walked for ten minutes or so after that.
Everything hurt up until I hit 135, after that I had loosened up pretty well, and it all felt good. I also kind of hate the power rack they have, it's so wide that if you get more than an inch or two to either side, you'll end up hitting your weights against the rack, that's not going to be fun when I get back up in the three wheel range. Other than that, everything felt so good this morning, that I wanted to do more. I made myself go walk first and then things started tightening up, so it's good that I didn't keep pushing myself. Soon though, soon...
Oh, and somebody has figured out that the foam roller means that I'll be in the floor soon, and will be within petting range.

It's not like we think you're Ross. But marriage is pretty fleeting these days. So think, "What would Ross call Mrs. Max Power?" And then do the opposite? (Really I just wanted to talk about Friends for a second.)
I don't see eye to eye with Ross...
-
No lie, I typed that up and then erased it because I thought CMP sounded bad. But I really like OMP. You could call her Mrs. Power, Mrs. Max or MMP (mrs.max power).
There are too many options here hahaha But I love that we're all on the same page.
my nerds <3
It always makes me happy to see that I'm not the only one having these crazy thoughts.
You won't be surprised that I went through the CMP option first, too, and though, "Nah she seems way to cool for that temporary-sounding noise." My dad calls my mom The Boss. So that's an option, too.
You know, the more I think about OMP, the more I think it sounds like there's an Official Mrs. Power, and I've got some unofficial ones on the side somewhere. Although, it also makes it sounds like there are just some pirated copies of her walking around somewhere, which is fun.
I feel that the options involving Mrs. MP are the best. I was thinking FMP could remain as Female MP, but that made it sound like your twin sister or something... CMP does sound a little revolving doory.
I think I'm starting to lean towards Mrs. MP, that one seems pretty reasonable.

You sir, have raised the nerdy bar. Good call.

How did I miss that you have a thread??? Welcome back!
I agree with Gains, football is a valid excuse.
-
Hate when that happens with food. Silly food. I need all of you and I need it now. Thanks.
Sounds like a fun weekend! Lift the deads, enjoy the shenanigans!
Word, I'm kind of to the point with the junk food that I just want some real food.
What Hermy said. Have a great weekend!
Also shouldn't FMP be OMP? (Assuming I've been using the correct" Future Mrs. Power" this whole time.) O=Official. I tried to think of another word. But it's morning time and brains.
I've had this debate in my head with the FMP, my first thought was that I should change it to Current Mrs. Power, but then I realized that sounded like I was planning on having a revolving door of Mrs. Powers. Official sounds a lot better though. Or maybe I should just refer to her as Mrs. Power, or maybe Mrs. Max???

Box jumps
Sledgehammer swings
Tire flips
Med ball slams
That sounds like an amazing workout! Good job on all of it.

FTFY
Ha, thank you sir!
I like that you went back to basics with OHP, I might need to do that with back squats my form is devolving every session.
I think it's good to drop back every once in a while and hammer down the basics.
Welcome back!
You lift. How are legs?
The legs weren't too bad this week, low volume helps with that a lot though.
I've been a bad nerd this week, but a good employee though. I didn't make it to the gym on Tuesday due to lack of food in me, so I moved that workout to Wednesday. Yesterday FMP was having a bad day, so I didn't go to the gym, instead I did man makers at the house, and then I died.
Eating this week can fall under one of two categories. 1) I barely ate anything. 2) I ate all of the food. We never made it to the grocery store this week, it kept getting put off. So we either made up a meal of some random foods left in the house, or we smashed junk food we'd pick up on the way home from work. We're gonna right the ship this weekend though.
Speaking of which, tomorrow is Deadlift day (Yay!!!) and then we're going to go see "Guardians of the Galaxy" with friends. I don't see how it can go wrong.

The wedding is over, and it was more exhausting than my own was. Food was terrible this past weekend, I spent at least two days living mostly off of cake. But it's back to the real foods now.
I spent most of the day yesterday catching up the beginning of the month paperwork and delegating out some of my other jobs.
Today's workout will be squats, week 2 of 5/3/1, followed by more squats of some variation. Then, depending on how my legs feel, I'll see what happens after that.

The workout went as planned. I'll give the numbers later, but work is kind of busy and there's some crazy drama going on right now. So I'm gonna go have fun with that. I probably won't be back around until Monday, what with the wedding this weekend and what not. See you cats later!

I'm all jealous of you and your Muay Thai prowess. I've been wanting to get into it, but there isn't anywhere around here that offers any classes.
