1. don't ever let anyone make you feel like you don't belong somewhere. sometimes all you need is 30 seconds of bravery to do something wonderful I started out with dumbbells and now have moved on to the bar. I was so excited to get to put weights on the bar. I have found that with guys in the gym (and I've belonged to a few different ones due to moving) they are more of the "atta girl" than judging. I've made really great guy friends and you will too. Get in there, elbows deep. Lift it like you stole it. Look in the mirror like you own it. Just keep telling yourself that you can prove them all wrong and go in there like a boss. I was so happy to 'graduate' to the "guy" part of the gym. Made me feel like I was for real and despite having those guys that are a complete @$$ it's been a great experience. Do it. You owe it to yourself to prove you can. I believe in you! ps.I live on Wilmington Island close to Savannah ga. If we could I would so go workout with you and show you have to be brave and strong and strong and brave. thanks for the compliments on my tat. Means a lot!
2. lol lol!!!!! I had a personal victory today I did 90lbs on the lat machine 5 times!! And I did them good! That was my last set too! I'm so happy!
3. omg. You all make me feel so welcomed! I'm doing my masters in knitting so I thought it appropriate just for me & you guys I'm going to go in and lift in y'alls honor today ) lift on!
4. thanks for the encouragement y'all! since I got these sweet tats it's been even more so.lol. I don't mind the questions, I knew there would be those few people who were like wtf? but admittedly when I'm doing dl or sqauts those tats make me feel even more awesome. lol! (these are tats #3 and #4) and whenever I look down at my guy on my wrist I will be like "he's my workout buddy".lol when the girlie girls are doing their treads & turn around and see me they sometimes shake their heads. Makes me want to say something but I never do. I'm 5'0" tall and maybe they wonder what I'm gonna do with that.....I don't know. I don't understand the mindset of putting on make up & then coming to the gym. If you don't plan on sweating and being a mess then why go?
5. I am frustrated. I admit it. I look around in the gym & see only a sea of men in different stages of flubber-fit & the only time there's even a female within close distance is when I'm on the tread mill. I walk up to do my sets & some random guy asks me if I need help with the weight..No that's part of the workout....I step into the squat rack only to have guys look at me like "why is she in our section of the gym" or "is she really gonna lift that?" (this does not happen every time, it's just happened too many times.) I'd love to have a workout buddy. Seriously. I'd love to have someone that can 'spot' me & I can spot them and it would be great if it were a female because I'm all about girl power....... I can't seem to get anyone to want to workout with me......none of my female friends.....they come up with lame excuses or just say no all together. I have a whole week in the gym & not see another female but me in that gym and that's not okay. I don't understand why it seems I'm the only girl in my gym lifting weights. /rant over
6. I'm looking for others that may want to meet up & get our workout on!!
7. this is me in blogland All In The Name of Fitness twitter https://twitter.com/#!/Castrated_Bean thanks
8. you can read more about my story on my blog here ) I am 5'0" tall & am 42. I started trying to get more fit in 2008 after my Mother passed away in 2005 & did nothing but pack on my weight after. I felt helpless and hopeless. I have stumbled and fallen & gotten back up again and refused to give up. I'm a scrapper from way back & I refuse to give into this 'fat' gene (if there is such a thing!) I look at fitness as my full time job (no matter what my 'real' job title is). I admit it. I love going to the gym & having people wonder if I'm really gonna lift that. And it makes me even happier that when I do I get those 'atta girl' pat on my back.
