  1. Signed up a day late, but I did push ups yesterday! I am already wishing I had set my goal higher, I was thinking in terms of single sets of pushups but I like to do 2-3 sets. Maybe I will just monstrously blow my goal out of the water and it will give me a good gauge for next time :)

ETA doing incline pushups at about 45-50 degree angle, trying to work my way up to 4 sets of 20 a day.

  2. I was part of another online community for several years, but it's recently sort of disintegrated and my efforts seemed to go right along with it. I can't believe how much those people had an impact on my motivation and success... I guess I'm not singularly accountable for myself. It's something I'm working on though.

I have a long way to go, but I've already come pretty far on my journey to awesome.

I'm a 5'8" female, 24 years old. Several years ago I was an avid distance runner and heavy lifter. My lowest body weight as an adult has been around 150 lbs, but at the time my body fat percentage hovered around 16%. I was beastly! I had an epic encounter with a 40 ft wall and ended up breaking my back. The injury resulted in several surgeries and a 5 level lumbar fusion. Buggar. It wasn't too terribly long before my doctors said I could start easing back into my prior level of activity, but depression is a bitch. I ended up sitting around feeling sorry for myself while I stuffed my face with tacos and gained 120 lbs in about 18 months. Literally the ballooning woman. At my heaviest I was bouncing around 280 lbs--my knees hurt, my back hurt, my life hurt. I decided I had to change things after living this way for a couple years. I couldn't take it anymore!!

So I started walking my poor, neglected dogs twice a day for 45 minutes and doing simple body weight exercises and light resistance training. Every few weeks I tweaked my diet a little more. I gave up binge drinking and binge tacos. I lost 75 lbs in 8 months and went from a size who knows to a loose and easy US 12. My husband and I got engaged and I lost another 20 lbs after I got my dress fitted. I used this as an excuse to take a break from my weight loss efforts and gain back the 20 lbs I had fought off just so my wedding dress wouldn't hang off me.

After the wedding, I spent the next year hovering around 215, although at one point I did near 240 lbs. In May of last year I discovered I was pregnant (third time's the charm, we finally got a baby out of a pregnancy) and I was 230 lbs at the time. Now our little girl is 3 months old and I am down to 210 lbs.

And I've been dreaming of running down mountain trails and 350 lb deadlifts for the past several months....it's time to get my mojo back!!

I plan to blog regularly, be active in this fine community, sweat my balls off, eat like a champion, and grunt like an orc.

  3. I live in the Avenues near the new City Creek center. I have thought about the Trolley Corners 24 Hour Fitness but I'm also looking into Planet Fitness on State Street and like 100 S. Of course, I also have a pretty awesome set of hills to run and bike where I live and there are plenty of parks around. I'd really like to get back into heavy lifting though. When I was in college I was obsessed with deadlifts, cleans and presses, squats, etc. My tiny apartment doesn't have the space for Olympic weights or I'd just do it here!
