  1. I have a few self-hypnosis CD's (from seminars I've attended) that I have on my iPod that I listen to at night when I know I'm not quite sleepy enough yet. They're so relaxing that I have never actually heard the end of the track. I fall asleep during the relaxation process before they even start giving suggestions. If you can't get a hold of anything like that, just try it yourself. Focus on your breathing, in through the nose, out through the mouth. Imagine all the stress and high energy leaving your body very slowly, from the top of your head all the way down to your toes. I usually get to about my waist, then don't remember anything after that. Hope you can find something that works for you!
  2. Day Five, Friday: Friday was a pretty boring day. I ate primal all day, went to the grocery for next week's food, and went home to run. I did ride the bus to work on time and did a little extra push up work even though it was a running day. Day Six, Saturday: Pretty good day, ate primal even though I was out shopping with my Mom. Went home to do my circuits and finished, but wasn't feeling super great at the end. I guess jumping into too much exercise all at once took it's toll at the end of this week. I think I was just too tired. I felt a weird pop on the inside of my right shoulder on the 3rd circuits push ups. I finished the last two very carefully, but they weren't awesome. I also tweaked something in my groin area on the right leg during lunges. But, I did go buy a pull up bar so I can start torturing myself with that challenge soon. Day Seven, Sunday: Sunday I used my non-primal weekend meal to eat a terrible hangover breakfast of Tim Horton's coffee and an apple fritter. It was amazing. I decided to take the day off from exercising even though I was supposed to run. I figured if I was tired and having issues, I should definitely rest, especially because I was dehydrated and hungover. Had a family cookout and ate primal, so proud of myself for that. Week 1 mini challenge: I didn't have a lot of time to cook this week because I had a ton of appointments after work each day. But I did have time to throw stuff in the crock pot while gone all day that turned out pretty good. I put 3 chicken breasts in the crock pot, seasoned with just a little salt and pepper and put in a cup of pinot grigio to keep everything super moist. Then I took a packet of "Cincinnati Style Chili" seasoning, put it in a shaker with another half cup of wine, mixed thoroughly and dumped in on top of the chicken. Then I just let it cook on low for about 7 hours. When I got home, I took the chicken breasts out and shredded them with two forks and topped with a bit of the seasoning liquid. I've been using this chicken for all kinds of things throughout the week: on salads, just plain with veggies, as a snack while I'm standing in front of the fridge, inside bell pepper halves, etc. I love Cincinnati Style chili but it is pretty greasy, so seasoning chicken with it kept the saturated fat low and kept the flavor. Also versatile.
  3. I agree that your lack of wanting to be touched is related to the issues you already have. When I started having problems in my last relationship, I became distant too. He would still be doing all the hand-holding, back rubbing, etc. and I just wanted nothing to do with it. I AM a touchy feely person, so that was a red light for me. It just comes down to how you feel about the whole situation, not just the touching. Don't put up with a situation that make you unhappy, life's too damn short. But on the other hand, don't throw away a part of your life because it seems inconvenient, right now. Weigh the pros and cons and do what's best for you.
  4. I think it is a good thing for her to at least try. From what I've learned while researching paleo/primal eating, it does rectify those conditions in a lot of people. And I'm about 99% sure it won't make her fat. During my first week of eating primal, I lost 7 pounds while only working out 3 days that week. Of course that is probably a lot of change and my body reflected that, but it's still a good start. LorenWade is the one you want to talk to about this though. Eating paleo has helped him a lot with a disgruntled body.
  5. !!!iii!!! Girl, you are definitely in the right place and we will all do well by your enthusiasm! Good luck with your pull up goal! I have push ups and chin/pull ups in my plan as well. And I just started C25K. Looking forward to following your success!
  6. Welcome! Agreed that you are definitely in the right place. Everyone is super helpful and supportive. And you ARE worth it. Fitness is a great distraction from stress and the best part is that it also benefits you. When you're feeling down or sad, workout, run, whatever, but I gaurantee you'll feel better when you're finished. Not just because you were distracted from whatever, but because you made a choice to do something good for yourself and you followed through. Eating healthy is also a great way to feel better. Cleaning up your eating seems hard at first, but there's really nothing to it. And believe me, you'll feel a thousand times better from eating fresh, healthy foods versus junk and soda. Ask anyone for help and you'll get it. Welcome to Nerd Fitness!
  7. Amazing tatt and motivation! And like others have said, they are addictive! Congrats!
  8. !!!!iiii!!!!iiii Moving here?! Super sweet! Nerd Fitness meet ups in Cincy! Woooooooo! And yes, there are a ton of ttttuuuurrrriiiibbbblllleeee drivers here (We blame all the Indianans. lol) And yes, kale chips are amazing. I usually make a big batch on the weekend then take them to work to munch on for a crispy salty snack. I have gotten half of the office to admit that they "aren't that bad"! lol
  9. I went to a Cincinnati Reds game on Wednesday and had the same issue. I ate a primal meal before I left work so I wouldn't be super hungry. Not drinking right now so didn't have to worry about the alcohol, but it's really not a baseball game without a beer or two, eh? I had a bratwurst with mustard, but didn't eat the bun. Then had a bit of someone else's pretzel and a Watermelon Chill because it's the only time of year I have them. One a year isn't too bad. lol It seems like you have everything under control and within plan, so just go and have a good time! Eat and don't feel bad or guilty, just get back on track Saturday with a good workout.
  10. Day Three, Wednesday: Not a total bust, but not great either. I drove in to work because we went to the Reds game in the evening and I had to have a way home. I did make it to work on time that day though. I ate primal all day until we were at the baseball game of course. I did ok except for that piece of a hot pretzel someone handed to me and I put it in my mouth without really thinking about it. Oh well. Then I got my favorite Watermelon Chill. I can only get them at baseball games and I really only have one a year, so I don't feel overly bad about it. I didn't have time to work out after I got home, so I just made Wednesday my off day and pushed everything back one day so I'll be back on track come Sunday. Day Four, Thursday: Again, not a total bust but not my best effort either. Due to getting home late after the baseball game on Wednesday, I didn't make up a lunch for Thursday. I ate primally, but don't think I ate enough, just for lack of actual primal food available. I also made it to work on time, but again had to drive in because I had a hair cut appointment right after work. I am pretty proud of myself though because even after getting home at 2045, I still changed my clothes and did my Beginner Body Weight circuits in the living room while watching Futurama with my sister instead of sitting on the couch watching Futurama with my sister. She said I made her feel lazy for laying on the couch while I was doing jumping jacks all the while still enjoying the TV show. lol
  11. I literally laughed out loud in the middle of my office when I got to the "wheeeeeeee~!" part. Ha! And these are great goals! I know what you mean about the hills. Cincinnati is super hilly because we're at the place where the glacier stopped so it's all the land got pushed down here and rumpled up. It's cool because it gives you hills to challenge yourself with running/biking, but it sucks in the winter because everyone loses their minds while driving. lol And calculus took a while for me to get as well. I started off as a Physics major and switched to Electronics, but needed calculus for both. Derp! It just seemed impossible for the longest time, then one day *POOF*, it made sense. No biggie. Just stick with it!
  12. Great goals! Also, congrats on your success so far! The challenge is a great way to get restarted. I also have have 20 standard push ups in one set as one of my goals. Can't wait to see how that goes... And exciting about your novel! I love fantasy novels. Look forward to seeing it someday!
  13. How about some old West American historical figures? Doc Holliday may be one of my favorite historical figures. Go rent Tombstone and tell me Val Kilmer doesn't make having tuberculosis look sexy... Kate Horony was his lady and she was a very strong woman for those times. Hungarian immigrant, business owner, super intelligent and not afraid of anything. Plus I think old West costumes are so much fun.
  14. Day 2: I did not get out of bed on time on Tuesday. Boo. I wasn't super late, but missed the last bus and had to drive but still made it to work on time. Just don't like to pay to park if I don't have to. I ate pretty well too. I brought all my appropriate primal foods and ate them. But someone brought in some sugar-free jello stuff with strawberries in it and I had to have like 2 bites. Luckily, two bites of anything sweet is about all I really want anymore. I still feel crappy for having done it, but I did learn something. After having sugar out of your system for a couple weeks, it really enhances the flavors. Normally eating sugar free jello would have been pretty blah, but those two bites I had were ridiculous. They tasted sooooo sweet, almost too sweet. You have to learn to appreciate the small things! Tuesday was not a circuit training day, but I did do W1D2 of C25K. I'm starting to not loathe running. I still don't like it, and I'm barely actually running, but it's not as bad as I remember.
  15. Kudos! I can't even do 3 minutes yet. God, I hate running... lol I'm hoping to learn to love it, but we'll see.
  16. Congrats on the success! And cookies are cookies. Walking away from cookies on your own counter would take tremendous will power. You'll work your way up to it! I actually started doing C25K this week anyway, even though I said I wasn't. I do the Beginners Body Weight circuits three days a week and do C25K three days a week. I hope I don't burn myself out too quickly. I'm having fun and enjoying it so far, so that's good. Just have to stay on the straight and narrow!
  17. Yay, another tall girl! (I'm 5'11") Welcome to the Adventurers! If you want to try the Couch to 5K program you should be able to run 10 minutes without stopping in 6 weeks. One of the jogging segments in week six is 12 minutes! You can do it girl! I'm doing C25K as well, just started this week. We can do it together.
  18. Glad you found us at Nerd Fitness Trish! And the Adventurers are glad to have you in our guild! Jump in and work hard. We're here to support you!
  19. Awesome goals! The mustache goal is manly to be sure. Good luck! And the no alcohol one may be a challenge, but if you're like me, it won't be too bad. I've been sober since Thanksgiving, just to try it out. I feel a lot better (not bloated all the time) and lost 10 pounds just from the reduction of calories. I never drank beer so it was a lot of cider and Captain Morgan. But just like the sugar, after you get it out of your system and used to not having it, it doesn't really bother me. The only time I'm mad that I'm not drinking is when all of my friends are drunk and telling drunk stories. lol It just gets old.
  20. Eastern Caribbean on the Carnival Liberty out of Miami, stops in Bahamas, St. Thomas, Grand Turk and San Juan. Super excited. It's a post deployment vacation for my friends that are in Afghanistan right now. We already have 12 people going and hopefully more to come. It's going to be the end all of vacations forever. lol
  21. Day one update! I got out of bed in time to catch the last bus to work! I ate primal all day! I did my Beginner Body Weight circuits workout! Boom!
  22. Great goals! I have the push ups and pull ups as one of my goals as well. I'll feel uber accomplished if I get it done. Looking forward to watching your progress!
