  1. Mind you, the 100 presses a day, are not all at once. Sets of 20, rest 1-2 mins, another set of 20, etc. and sure...I will toss in the truck pull just to make it fun
  2. The one I am in, is run out of a local gym. It is not structured like traditional martial arts classes I have taken before. While the teacher is teaching traditional muay thai, I kind of doubt he is running it in a traditional manner due to the gym members that take it just for the 'exercise'. though he does focus on proper technique for those that want to learn it. Our structure is warm up for 10 minutes. drills and sparring for ~40 mins, and then the last part of class is conditioning....or make up fun exercises till you drop part.
  3. yup drop the toast! It sounds like you are not eating enough fats to help keep you satiated. I had the same issue when I started, and it turned out I was not eating enough fats. The true key thing with paleo is to make sure you get a wide range of foods. Meats, veggies, fruits, nuts, proper oils, etc. some fats: Cream, eggs, butter, bacon, nuts, avocados, fish, coconut oil, walnut oil, avocado oil, olive oil. You would be better off making an egg monster for breakfast, tossing it in a plastic bowl when done, and taking it with you for the day. Toss tons of bacon on it, throw in some avacados as well if you like them... Also almonds and macadamia nuts are great snacks to keep in your school bag to munch on throughout the school day.
  4. I have no problems medita....OH LOOK SHINEY!

    Alcohol!!!

wish i could help, but I have no idea. I just make sure to keep my drinking in balance with other things, and it works out pretty well for me. Outside of the current challenge, I may have a drink a night for a week, then nothing for two weeks, or have one weekend of drinking, and just not drink for a month. I don't use sodas for mixers either, and keep any juice down to a minimum, and it pretty much does not bother me. Though I would say that I am 90%+ paleo all the time...so that may have something to do with it.
  6. Okay all. I know I am not updating much, but I am still in the game. I have kept up with my yoga and muay thai classes perfectly. I have recently switched up my workouts to build up to the handstand, and am working on 100 shoulder presses a day to build up strength as I am falling behind. As for the videos, those will be done shortly!
  7. Yeah, you won't find me at bars at all..I hate them, and places like them. For me, I just like being at home and enjoying a nice drink.. but yeah, that would be something as funny as "My Drunk Kitchen" episodes
  8. yes....start playing with your exercise. What I mean, is make your exercise also your play time, it completely changes things when you are having fun and not just 'exercising'....even if you have a new found love for exercise. some thoughts: 1. Go to a park and climb every tree you can. climb one, run to another, climb, run to next, climb, rinse repeat. 2. find a dog that likes to play chase, or feth, and your goal is to out run him/her to a certain spot, or toss a ball and beat them to it. 3. Find a work out buddy, and instead of just doing regular ol squats....have them jump on your back, and you run as far as you can...then switch it up. 4. Go play a game of ultimate frisbee 5. get a rope and pull a car! 6. get a rope, tie it to a tree and see how long and far you can swing like tarzan 7. get a rope/elastic band, get a friend...tie it to your waist, while the other one holds it and you run like hell while they try to hold you back. those are just a few
  9. 12 pull-ups ( 52 push-ups (regular) 65 squats (regular) 50m bear crawl Met (though not 100% sure what bear crawl was, so I guessed) 50m crab walk Met 50m walking lunges Met 50m "balancing" Met Did this while walking to work, there is a very long narrow concrete ledge that follows a path..made it perfect. 50m forward jumping Not met, went approximately 30m before ankle started hurting(the one with the achilles injury) so I called it
  10. This is how I did it. It was pretty simple, and worked well for me. I was really bad when working behind the computer that I always had a soda to drink..even if not thirsty, so I decided to do this. I made sure I had ice cold water with something I could add to it...lemon, lime, sage, etc to give it some taste. And then, all I would do is switch off everytime I went to get something to drink. First time, I would get a glass of soda, next time I went to get a drink, I would make it my ice water....then next time soda...etc. Eventually over time, the soda started getting way to sweet, and I would have two glasses of water in a row..then three...then eventually I just could not stand soda anymore because it had gotten to sweet. Well, that is how I did it, not sure if it will help you, but whatever you do, take it one step at a time.
  11. for me it is multi-purpose. for one, I love the feeling of a nice burn after a good exercise(even though beforehand I may dread it). Two, I truly, beyond words, LOVE, how it makes me stronger, faster, and better than I was before. I guess that is the driving force for me...being faster, stronger, and healthier than I was 20 years ago. That and knowing that 20 years from now, I will still be awesome makes all the difference. I wish I knew then, what I know now, when I was 20...damn how awesome would I be at 46! that, and I see so many people in my generation dying slowly of ...'being unhealthy', that it helps push me along as I get older...though to be honest, I do not feel much over 25...even if I look it! lol
  12. Hi Alyssa, and welcome to NF! Bean has some great advice! I would suggest you look up spezzy on the forums for the best female advice on weight lifting. I am not a real weight lifter, I tend towards the martial arts, playful attitude of fitness, go with the flow, type of deal...spezzy and the other female lifters will have GREAT advice for you. As for paleo...I do know this...GO FOR IT ALL THE WAY! just make sure you eat enough food if you are working on lifting, and building strength, but it absolutely rocks beyond belief! For me, 2 years of it, and it rocks! good luck and welcome!
  13. Welcome Dave! grats on joining up! and grats on working on your diet, it will go a very long way to helping you reach your goals. My personal opinion...get off the gym machines! Keep with the PT that keeps you off of them, and on to compound exercises! yes, I am biased, but look into the primal/paleo eating plan...it just makes it soooooooooooooooo easy once you get into it!
  14. welcome aboard! I am biased, but Primal/Paleo rocks! still, you go with what works best for you, and grats on joining up with us all Stop by the chat room, or hit us up on the forums, there are so many helpful, intelligent people here that you can always find answers to help you along!
  15. Helps A LOT! thank you, I will play with that and focus on the back to the wall and watching my core more. I might just not be tightening it enough to support myself...time to experiment! thanks!
  16. that rocks! keep up the great work!
  17. First off, grats on the weight loss, and bigger grats for getting back up again after a fall! Well I follow the paleo diet, so that can limit me quite a lot when I go to family or special events depending on what they serve. If it is a planned event in the future, I usually make sure to bring stuff with me that does not require me carrying big dishes or pans So I will make or buy, and bring some quality jerky, or a bag of almonds, or other nuts....or I will bring a small bag filled with fruit and that usually fills me up enough to get through it. It is much more difficult to go to a friends house though, because you do not wish to be rude and not eat what is offered, but if they are true friends, then let them know when you are invited that you have some food restrictions, and you are more than willing to bring some stuff yourself that you and everyone else can eat to help out.
  18. nothing wrong with being hungry....and if you stick to the paleo, eat as much as you need. when hungry, eat, when not...don't eat. Paleo does take a little extra work though, as it is not as 'convenience' friendly as junk food is. Try different types of veggies to find out what you do and don't like...try them in different ways as well....steamed vs cooked in a pan, etc. Also, make sure you are getting enough protein and fats if you are sticking to paleo, they will help curb some of that hunger. As Elastigirl said..make sure you eat ENOUGH food. Paleo is not a 'diet' that means you limit your intake of food, so make sure you are not starving yourself. and smoothies are a great idea!
  19. Welcome and grats on getting on the right track! Also, doctors truly do not know as much as they wished they did about human health and what we are capable of. Nothing wrong with the doctors! we all need them now and then, and I have lots of respect for them...they just need to know that they really 'dont know'
  20. Welcome Blondie! And good luck on your goals, just remember to take it one step at a time with the sugar. It can be EXTREMELY hard to get rid of things in your life, especially when they are so ingrained. But remember, this is a life long quest, and some things may take longer than others. Just keep at it, do not beat yourself up, and work on changing the habits you have built when you do get bored, stressed, or whatnot...yes I know, easier said than done, but you can do it I have a question for you though on the sugar.....are you sure it is the sugar in the foods you want, or is it the taste, or the texture you are truly craving? Try experimenting and see if you notice any type of difference. When you get that sugar craving, try taking a teaspoon of 'real' sugar, not an artificial sweetener, and eat it...does that satisfy the craving? Next, get yourself some really sweet fruit. Here they have some 'extra sweet' strawberries they sell in different stores. When you get that sugar craving....eat some of those and see if you notice anything. The last thing, I am not sure how to do....but when you get that craving, instead of reaching for that piece of cake, reach for something with the same texture, but without the sugar....no clue here on what that could be The reason for the experiment is if you can find what that actual 'thing' is you are truly reaching for, it might be easier to learn how to switch it out with something that won't cause guilt. If it is just that really sweet taste, and you can replace it with something paleo but sweet...real honey, extra sweet strawberries, or something similar...you have just won half the battle!
  21. You may not be pressuring her at all, but sometimes people will still say what 'they' think you want to hear, even if you do not ask the question, or make the statement. She knows she is over weight, so she may feel that her children 'want' Plain and simple, you CAN'T motivate her. The only thing you can truly do is help inspire that motivation within her. The other posts have some great ideas for inspiration, but everyone's trigger is different, so until she is truly ready, it will be an uphill battle.
