1. Well after four long years of inactivity, I'm back! I have always kept an eye on Nerd Fitness, checking back now and then to see how things are going and it's awesome to see The Rebellion still going strong! Anyway I'm here to recommit myself to change! The last four years haven't been the most productive but I'm hoping to change all that! Here's to the future!
2. I agree with Mightstone, just try getting a few trail classes and see which one you prefer
3. Ha, first time I've seen this, pretty amazing! I'm pretty good with keeping my hands up, my issue is I don't move my head around anywhere near enough, especially when boxing. But since trying to change this, I've definitely been getting hit far less
4. You know, sharing a world with one or two friends and just playing it, is probably the best times I've had playing the game. Random strangers tend to complicate it, and you can never be sure if your buildings and possessions will still be intact when you log back on lol. Although, a few times I've joined a new server and helped 'Found' a few towns with some people. Which generally was pretty awesome. I like it most when you have a decent group and EVERYONE co-operates together.
5. Mines quite simple. Wallet Phone Keyring - Car Key, random fobs for some stores and my locker keys. (I still need to take my spare locker key off my keyring but I always forget xD) Safety Knife (When Working) Headphones when I can find the damn things
6. I've been playing a fair bit of Sleeping Dogs recently. The way most people try and describe it is GTA set in China. But it really doesn't do it justice describing it like that lol. There's so many aspects of the game which are really fun, individually. The Racing is nice and tight and challenging, feels like a proper racing gaming, GTA's racing felt quite messy. Their is ALOT of hand to hand combat, and it's easily my favorite bit of the game. As you progress you gradually unlock new moves in mixed martial arts, and the fighting is really satisfying. The shoot outs have a bit of a matrix feel to it, vaulting over tables in slow-mo trying to headshot a bunch of people. It's really hard to do this game justice with a description as there is so much to it! But I'd recommend it And its only £7.50 on steam atm! Not sure how that translates to dollars, but it's a nice deal
7. Yeah the pavements have been nasty, my two cousins who are twins, sprained some ligaments in their knee, on the same leg, on the same day lol, which was quite spooky. And they live 200 miles apart haha.
8. This article really strikes a cord with me! I've had quite a few things getting me down recently and I've begun realizing that it's just down to me to sort it all out. And this article sort of encapsulates the mental shift I need to start acting on the changes I want to make!
9. Personally, being tough on myself is sometimes the best thing I can do. It helps me kick my ass into gear and get on with what I need to do, even if I'm not feeling up to it. Giving myself a good talking to usually helps me find solutions to my problems or forces me to think from a different perspective.
10. Thanks! And now that the snow and the illness is out the way, I'm raring to go! Damn right! I'm going to do my best to sit down and write as soon as I get in from work, while everyone else is sleeping or has already gone off to work. And I love writing in the morning just before sunset I just feel more focused at this point as the day hasn't properly started or has just ended, so I have nothing else to think about or do
11. Right, sorry for no update for a long time! My bro has been redecorating his room, where my computer usually is, so all the computers have been unplugged for the past few weeks and I've struggled to get online properly. Anyway... Here's an update! 1.Training MMA + Stretching Due to there being a lot of snow, and Britains epic incapability to function while it's snowing, I haven't been to the MMA gym at all for the past few weeks as 90% of the route has been iced up and I didn't fancy risking the journey. Plus for a majority of the time my Gym has been closed completely. However I've been doing my best to train as much as possible at home on the pads and have been following my stretching routine. My fitness is definitely improving, however my actual skill probably hasn't as I've had zero sparring and don't really know how to work out efficiently on the pads. But I've focused on just getting fitter, doing circuits, skipping and pad work. Also I've began to run again as I've sorta been pressured into signing up for a 14k Obstacle course which I'll be running/crawling through on the 1st of March! Flexibility in my hips seems to be getting better as I'm feeling more comfortable kicking higher now. All in all, I'm not unhappy with the way the past few weeks have gone. I just wish I was able to get some real practice at the gym! 2. Cycle to Work Yeah, I'm a pussy, I'm not cycling in the snow! Now that the weather is starting to warm up a bit, I'll hopefully start cycling ASAP! 3. Make Eating a Habit This one has been a bit up and down. Generally I've eaten well, but there's been times where I head to work totally unprepared and without food. And once I head home, I'm so hungry I've headed straight to the bakery. But I'd say I've eaten 75% correct. 4. Write a blog post 5x a week Due to the computers being down, I've written zero =/ But now that the computers are back up, I'm planning on writing something as soon as I get home from work, as I enjoy writing in the morning, with a cup of coffee. Summary Overall I'm not happy with the way things have gone. Pretty much due to me being unorganised with food and with the computer. (I could of just set it up in another room but I was being lazy) My task now that all these hurdles are hopefully behind me, is to do my best to stick to my goals! And I'll be happy as long as I'm doing what I set out to, by the last week of the challenge, irregardless of the setbacks. And in regards to my organisation etc, I had the thought the other day "Live the life you want to lead". As in, I have to be responsible for living the life I want to. It's not going to come naturally or easy, I actually have to put effort into it and DO IT. I have to get more organised, even if it means waking up earlier before work. Or doing something I need to do, even if I'm tired.
12. I'm the same, so so disappointed. I'm not a huge cycling fan either but I still admired him for dominating cycling so much, as I do with other athletes who have become 'Great' at a sport. Nowadays it feels like you can never really be 100% sure that someone isn't cheating. At least that's the way I feel lol.
13. I've recently bought a supplement called ZMA, which is just zinc, magnesium and vitamin b6. Last night was the first time I tried it and I probably had one of the best nights sleep in a while. I still woke up occasionally, but i was able to go straight back to sleep without any effort. Also my dreams were waaay more vivid and each time I woke up, I'd remember whatever my dream was.
14. Pre workout - Whey Protein, Creatine mono hydrate + 2 bananas 1 hour and a half of boxing @ 100% Post workout - Whey Protein + 2 bananas + 2 apples Meal - 5 chicken sausages Doesn't seem to be a lot but I'm not currently hungry in the slightest. And Creatine made a noticeable difference during my training session, where I could go harder then usual. I'm really tired, so this is as much detail as I'm going to write for today!
15. I work in a warehouse at night, so I'm up all night AND on my feet the whole time But tbh It's fine as long as I take enough food to work. Friday was really busy and I didn't take enough food to last me and my energy just crashed completely. But yeah, as you said, That's the challenge Now to prepare for a nice long bike ride
16. Literally like any other Holiday Book a plane ticket and do all the rest through a fightcamp such as http://www.tigermuaythai.com/ And I found out my boxing coach went over to tiger muay thai to do a seminar, which was a pretty spooky coincidence. Haha an NF Roadtrip to Thailand would be epic! And yeah, I've been reading quite a bit about Habits + Lifestyle changes versus templates and Regimes. Essentially the same thing except it takes the thought process out of it. And here's an update. 1. Training MMA + Stretching Due to illness and then work. I've not done anything so far. But I'm going to be returning to my gym on Monday Also I'm going to begin my stretching today. 2. Cycle to Work I've decided to build my cycling fitness up outside of work before attempting my first ride. This is also so I get used to riding on the road with other traffic etc. I'm planning on an epic ride later on before the sun comes up. 3. Make Eating Habit I ate pretty much perfectly all week long until the end of my shift last night/this morning. When I had a few Krispy Kremes and some Pizza. I then promptly slept for 13 hours straight o.o. I'll let this time slide as I was unbelievably tired. Life Goal - Write a blog post 5x a week I've really slacked off on this one, and I have no excuse. I've just lacked focus. And when getting back in from work, instead of using my time productively and getting on with some stuff, I've ended up watching TV or playing a game. This'll change So to sum everything up. Diet has been OKAY. Everything else has been lacking. But due to illness and heading back to work, I'm okay with this. Today is basically my 'real' start. As I'm illness free and I now have 4 days off to really get started.
17. Sounds awesome, but how does it know your actually working out? I mean what is stopping people from just saying they worked out and then they get money off the being who haven't worked out but are at least being honest?
18. <blockquote class='ipsBlockquote'data-author="tazboyvt" data-cid="378462" data-time="1357787575">
Great goal!

I went to Beijing, Shanghai and Jiujiajiao this past summer. I was determined to learn some Mandarin before going. I used Tim Ferriss's approach to language learning - essentially an 80-20 approach, and found that I learned a ton. I still have it, too, and have been able to learn more upon returning.

I was able to visit a chicken farm at the Great Wall, learn a few drinking games at bars, wander with impunity, and exercise with old ladies and old men at the Temple of Heaven with my rudimentary, yet effective, language skills. I know there are some videos of me speaking with locals from other people in my group. I just have to find some.

Basically, I have become a fan and thrilled with the language. It has simple power and glory in the way it constructs meaning. I love, too, the three looks I get in succession when I start to speak. First, there is the surprise of "did that white devil just speak civilized?" and then the , "OMGods, he DID?!" and the joy that follows on their faces. I see it often and absolutely love it.

lol that's awesome! And mandarin is definitely one of the languages I'd like to learn in the future.
19. I just downloaded anki onto my phone, how do I use it, just write down sentences I want to learn/remember and review it occassionaly?
20. Yeah I'm going to try and hunt down some Pimsleur CD's / MP3's at some libraries near me as buying them is pretty expensive. And I was thinking of buying The Alchemist in Portuguese as it's one of my favorite books, and my english version has ironically been nicked by my Portuguese friend lol. Also the language used in it was pretty simple so I reckon it would be a nice start, and I'd at least be interested in what I'm reading And I might try and listen to some Portuguese songs while I'm working today, as for most of the night I'm working on my own listening to music anyway.
21. I just downloaded 1 lesson of the Pimsleur Portuguese thing.. At the end when they combined all what they were teaching into a conversation at the end and I understood what they were saying, it blew my mind a bit lol. Definitely going to look into Pimsleur properly as well lol.
22. I decided to start with Portuguese cause it's a hell of a lot more convenient to learn due to having my Portuguese friends. And I know I won't get fluent in 3 months I'm hopefully heading to Brazil in 2014 for a few months, so my aim is to be fluent enough to hold conversations pretty comfortably by the time I leave. So I have roughly 1 year and 3 or 4 months to learn it And I'm planning on watching some Films and listening to music in Portuguese when I'm a bit further a long. I've decided against Thai now after researching it a bit. Like you said it looks like it'll be a tough language and I don't think 4 months will be anywhere near enough to get to the stage I would like. So I'm going to learn Portuguese instead and one day I'll hopefully come back to Thai. But I'll definitely incorporate some of your idea's for learning Portuguese. And luckily, my bro had Rosetta Stone on his computer with Portuguese on it (I didn't even know he had Rosetta Stone lol) And today I spent 2 and a half hours learning on it and It seems alright. I'm remembering the meaning of the words pretty easily, but when they speak it, sometimes I don't understand what they're saying. But, I'm happy with this for now. I'm gonna keep doing this when I have time (Which I usually have a lot of) And practice on my friends. When I know more, I'll start listening to some music, watch some films and read some books in Portuguese (I have a lot of time to learn this ). Also I'm going to check out Pimsleur and Michel Thomas. Ah well, It's quite exciting I actually find it pretty fun learning which I didn't really expect.
23. I'm sure this is something a lot of people have at least thought about or maybe even done. And I thought it'd be good to create a topic for people to speak about this and share some tips or their own experiences and successes/failures. At the moment I'm thinking of learning to speak Thai, so when I go to Thailand next april, I'll be able to understand and hopefully speak some basic Thai. A website which has peaked my interest when I was looking around is http://www.fluentin3months.com/. This guy basically sets himself a challenge to become conversational in a language in 3 months. And at the moment he is learning his 12th language, so he's doing something right! He says he does this by actively trying to have conversation in the language he is learning. And he focuses on this, rather then studying grammar and understanding the mechanics of the language. He focuses on being able to efficiently communicate first, then when he is starting to get progress, he begins to look at grammar, but only when he is starting to understand the language. Which does make sense to me. Anyway, some food for thought! I'm going to test this out and see whether I have any progress in a month or two. I just need to decide whether I really want to learn Thai, or whether to start learning Portuguese, which I really want to learn as my two best friends are from Portugal. And it'd be pretty neat to be able to converse in Portuguese. So, what experiences have you guys had with trying to learn a new language?
24. Absolutely, the worst shape I'm in currently, the more epic my success will be At the moment I'm mostly doing straight jumps and high knee's until I can go fairly fast without hitting my legs. But one day! http://youtu.be/H90pZF3PB7U
