  1. Gotta get on this before it's too late. Meant to post last weekend but skiing and a snowshoe race got in the way Tigurius Challenge Brief overview of goals: Fitness related: 1) Run at least 30km each week. 2) Get on my mountain bike for at least 30 min 3 days a week Side goals: 1) Post 1 article per week to 3 blogs I'm currently writing for 2) Read, write and listen to French every day in preparation for trip to France 3) Post as many decent photos as possible to my flickr stream with my new DSLR 4) Write as much as I can for an intro hiking book I've started. Class: Scout If you follow a specific way of eating: Lots of fruit, veggies and water Any other piece of information you think would be useful for team creation: Focusing on long distance running right now and adventure races, practical fitness, no gym If you want to be part of a team or if you want to work alone: Either would be good. Be nice to have a team to work with. Challenges: 1) Need to keep the motivation up on the dark, cold, wet days. 2) Need to make sure I do everything that needs to get done for my goals, even the stuff I don't really want to do My workout schedule: I'll be riding almost every day and then running 3-4 times a week. I'd rather it be the other way around but running is making my knees sore at the moment so I'm riding more right now.
  2. Ya wakeboarding is pretty much my favorite thing to do during the summer. Just sucks that it costs so much for the gas for the boat. And it's not very human-powered. I'm an outdoor website programmer by night, not quite as exciting
  3. Good call on the stretching and the climbing. I have to do more of both. I used to stretch a lot when I played organized sports but don't too much any more. And I was thinking about the climbing for upper body conditioning for wakeboarding too. I find the first few wakeboards of the season I can't go for very long because my arms are tired.
  4. I was up around 3 coffees per day and am down to 1 now. I found just really thinking about why I was drinking it before I poured myself one was enough to not drink it most of the time. It's just a habit for me from working at an office. Get there the in the morning and you get a coffee. That's what everyone does. I found getting a lot of sleep and drinking a cup of water instead of a cup of coffee helped as well. Do you drink it all the time or is it just a certain place that you do? Do you have any holidays or trips coming up that you could use to quit and start fresh?
  5. Well try to run it It kind of ends up being run the flats and the downhill sections and then hike up hill and, ugh, climb the ladders. It's one of those things I think I'll look back on with fond memories but I can't imagine it being any sort of light and fluffy happiness while we're running it. Right now I'm more just go out and do it but with a goal of a tough 75km trail run looming over my head I've started to get a bit more calculating. I've just got Tim Ferris' Four Hour Body and am excited to look through the 5 to 50k section. I'm going to be working on a fairly strict marathon plan for the first part of it and then just going from there with as much heavy hiking, trail running and mountain biking as I can. I usually trail run with Salomon XT Wings but have been doing more and more training in my Vibram Five Finger Classics. I've got my eyes on some KSO's though as they'll rub less on the top and, well, keep stuff out. Sandman, we definitely do use Tempest for almost every thing that it can do. I was just at the conference in Harrison Hot Springs not to long ago playing some rock band Were you there?
  6. Hey all, great to see this forum going strong. I've read NF for a while now but haven't paid much attention to the forums. After the post about the OMFG I was pretty interested and decided to hop in. I've been into sports all my life and played soccer, volleyball and rugby when I was younger. I'm not so much into the team sports any more but do partake in a good game of touch rugby, ultimate or beach volleyball during the summers. My main interest these days are hiking, ski touring, trail running, mountain biking and kayaking. I've been running trail races for a couple years now but haven't really made the training commitment to go all out and aim for top 5. I think next year will be my year. I recently did a 50k adventure race called the Momar near where I live this year. It severely kicked my ass but I'm hungry for a better place next year. It consists of kayaking, trail running/orienteering then mountain biking. Another big adventure I had this year was running the Juan De Fuca hiking trail on Vancouver Island. It's 47 km long and has about 9000 feet of elevation gain and loss. Took us about 7 hours. My buddy and I are looking to do the West Coast Trail next year hopefully in around 16 hours. It's 75km and has lots of ladders to climb and rivers to cross. I'm starting to push my running and riding now so I'm ready for it! I don't play too many computer or console games these days as I'm really pushing the training but I do program all day at my day job for the City of Nanaimo and then program and write for my personal sites during the evenings and weekends. http://rcthink.com/blog/ is my lifestyle, personal development and travel site. http://pureoutside.com/blog/ is my one of the outdoor sites. It will eventually have a social network attached to it with photos, trip reports and gps tracks. Starting that early next year. http://islandadventurer.ca/blog/ is my local outdoor site about the hikes and ski tours we do on Vancouver Island. Excited to hang out here with a crew that loves working out and the outdoors and that's a little more computer savvy. Most of the outdoor nuts I hang out with aren't really sure how to turn a computer on! Edit: I guess I fall into the Dwarf race as I'm not very tall and fairly stocky. I would currently be a Ranger I think but am working on Scout capabilities so I'll head there. Feel free to stalk me on twitter http://twitter.com/#!/rcthink or my sites Cheers, Tig/Ross
