  1. From what I have seen in other forums, anything dedicated to mental and emotional wellness goes to pot fairly quickly. It ends up being a place where people over-share, air grievances, and where predators circle looking for people who are vulnerable. I feel like it is a bad idea.

  2. I am super stoked about this, gang! So, I love steel bending. It saved me from depression after I was injured, and could not hit the weights like I used to. The problem is, most recognition and certifications on steel bars are VERY difficult bends. That is why I came up with the Gods & Goddesses of Steel steel bending certifications. Here is the skinny:

    Gods & Goddesses of Steel
    Steel Bending Certifications

Are you ready to pit yourself against these mighty bars of steel and brass?
Are you ready to take your place at the table of the Gods & Goddesses of Steel?

Steel Bending Certification bars will be offered so you have a physical manifestation of the strength you are building with your Steel Bender's Helper. These certifications are open to everyone.

To qualify for certification on any given bar, you will need to follow the rules for submission.

-Submissions must be in video format. YouTube video or Facebook video are the accepted formats for your submission. The video must be public.

-Any non-rigid wraps are acceptable, and double wraps are allowed. Wraps will be shaken out and shown, both front and back at some point in the video to show that no rigid implements were used. Chalk is allowed. Actually, chalk is recommended!

-1 rubber band per wrap is allowed.

-You must clearly measure the bar to be bent on video to show diameter and length. Clearly marked measuring device must be used.

-The bar and wraps must stay in frame the entire time during your bend.

-The bar to be certified must have been purchased from Camp Verde Rope and Gear. Use the Contact page for ordering.

-The certification bending attempt must be finished in 5 minutes or less to count for certification.

-The bar must not touch any part of your body below the navel during your certification attempt.

-The bar cannot be braced. Your hands and arms cannot touch your body below the waist, but your arms may be rested against your chest or abdomen.

-Only the three main unbraced styles of bending will be accepted for certification purposes: Double Overhand, Double Underhand, and Reverse(Over/Under).

-To be considered bent for purposes of these certifications, the inside edges of the ends of the bar must be within 2" or less of each-other. The distance must be measured and clearly shown.

-You can earn the title "Vanir" next to your name for any certification if you finish the certification attempt in 2 minutes or less.

-You can earn the title "Aesir" next to your name for any certification if you finish the certification attempt in 1 minute or less.

    Thank you for your reply.

Do you know if building the pilars with wood would be more economic than building all the structure with iron? Also, iron would be safer than wood?

    Anyone with experience building parks?

    Thank you again

I think that if you have someone to do your fabricating and welding, then making it out of galvanized pipe/tube would be your best bet. It will last a LONG time, and be easier to maintain. Wood has to be taken care of, galvanized steel does not. If you Google Parkour workout stations, and other things like that, you will see some excellent ideas for what you can build.

  4. *P.S.

I do not skip leg day, just so you know. My leg days are every other day when I tow a 150 pound wagon with a 90 pound Dog in it for 2 miles! My boy Dog, Luke, he is the big red Dog there, he has hip dysplasia, and he stopped eating when he couldn't get out for jogs with Ginny and I. He was depressed, so I did what I had to do. Now, the girl, Ginny, she is getting older, so sometimes she has to ride for a while to take a break, which puts my load up over 300 pounds.

Not all that often, unfortunately.  Maybe a couple of times a year.  Did several grip contests when that first started becoming a thing, but when I switched to strongman I had to drop the bending.  It beat up my shoulders and chest too much to get the volume of pressing work in I needed.

I hear you! It is a trade off. I noticed back when I first started bending that when I hit the bench press for heavy weights, I wasn't able to bring the strength to bear against a bar. Lost flexibility, like. Life is all about compromise. Figuring out what we want, and doing what is needed. Are you still competing in Strongman contests?

  6. Yesterday's work-out:

-Warm-up with deep knee bends, isometrics with a towel, and 50 reps in Double Overhand AND in Double Underhand on my Beginning Steel Bender's Helper.

-10 reps on the Sub Intermediate SBH

-10 reps on the Super Intermediate SBH

-2 reps on the Sub Advanced

    -10 deep knee bends

-Bent a 5/16" x 7" CRS bar in under 5 minutes in double Ironmind pads

-Used Ladder technique, and did 3 sets on the same SBH's listed above to failure.

-Did 5 attempted reps on the Advanced SBH, only moved it about 20 degrees, but held it there for a slow count of 5 on each attemp

-Collapsed into a shaking heap of meat

Is the steel bender's helper your main workout?

Sloth, that has been my sole workout for almost 2 months now. I do cardio and core, but as far as upper body workout, this has been it. My strength gains have been phenomenal, and muscle gains as well as definition has been out of this world.

  8. A couple of weeks ago, I barely made 6 reps with the Sub Advanced Steel Bender's Helper, and yesterday I slammed out 26 repetitions! I only certified for the Feats of Strength list for 10 reps, though, because I did not allow the SBH to fully extend on a few of the reps. I got carried away! It is all about persevering, and maintaining forward motion when it comes to fitness. Workout, time to heal, nutrition, and goals. ATTAINABLE goals on the way to larger goals so that we can have successes, because success breeds success.

Ouch!  That's crazy!  What made you decide to try this, is it a "thing" that folk do?

Guzzi, you bet! Old time strongmen would bend bars of metal to awe the crowds. I discovered that there is a HUGE endorphin rush that comes along with these movements and exertions. Like runner's high multiplied by ten. There is a growing sub-culture in strength training of steel benders all across the world! I originally found steel bending when I was injured, and unable to do my normal workouts. I was hooked almost immediately.

  10. I haven't posted in a few days, but I have been working out, trying to keep up with the timeline of my goals while still keeping every aspect of my life in order.

    Balance.

Balance is key. We have to make time for all things important.

I have still managed to reach milestones on my Road O' Goals, and here is one of them:
