  1. Uff uff uff... 10K in the morning followed by some full-on circuitry during which I was forced to listen to Cheryl Cole. Yes, it's been a punishing day - my muscles and ears are screaming in pain! I'm off to bed with a book, I think...
  2. A Brazilian lady has just told me "Parabéns,seu português é ótimo!!!" *proudface*
  3. Managing to mostly stay away from sweetie temptation on Hallowe'en. I've squeezed in a few exercises and worked on my PT vocabulary so far. Tomorrow I am planning both a morning run and evening circuits at the rowing club so if I manage to do both I suspect I will be a stretcher case for the rest of the week!
  4. I'm cold just thinking about it!
  5. Good luck in the half, KG! (and lay off the hallowe'en booze you naughty man!)
  6. It's a perfectly sane hour here. Well done anyway!
  7. Oh look - *points* at this week's challenge Apparently we are supposed to be ramping up for the last week, but I was planning on doing that this week anyway. So that's: Finally break the 65 minute barrier, go harder on the diet to try and shed another 4lb so I will at least have lost 17 (short of the original 20, I know but throwing down a challenge for 7lb in a week seems like a recipe for self destruction!) and do some extra Portuguese - I should be able to manage some quizzes with m'daughter today before my lesson, and I reckon by the end of the week I can have finished chapter of Lathrop and Dias, had at least one online chat and written a couple more notebook entries on italki.

    Phylanx go!

*Googles Human Flag* *Is awestruck* You can do that?
  9. Definitely the hiking sounds great. Exercise that's part of your real life is the best kind.
  10. Great news abut the blog. I hate to be captain negative but if you're meant to be resting those pins and walking is "a bit naughty", I'd be inclined to follow doctor's orders - it might mean a speedier recovery and less time laid up. *wags finger* Just sayin'. Not sure how practical it is as advice if you're moving in since that tends to be a time when you need to be up and doin'. Anyroadup, good luck with the final week of the challenge and I hope you continue to mend, whatever you decide to do!
  11. Woooh! My Brooks are burnin' baby - they are bur-nin'! I gotta tippy-toe, tippy-toe* I did a run round Richmond Park in the late afternoon, instead of my usual time and I was on really good form. The clock stopped at 65:09, smashing my target time and getting within an ace of my would-be-nice time. The last mile or so was in the dark and the main gates were closed. I didn't have a headlight with me so it was quite exciting running through the dark. I'd better not pull anything like that next week when the cull starts though; I wouldn't want them to pop a cap in my bipedal, unantlered ass. End-of-the-week roundup: I'm still on target with the Portuguese. I am making great progress. It's been a bad week with the diet though. What with the funeral, sausage-rolls and commiseratory glasses of wine with the family, I've let things slide a bit. I also missed my Saturday run because I was travelling down from Scotland and I was on coxing duty for sculling this morning, so very little exercise to balance things out - hence the decision to go out this evening. I have lost another 1lb, but it looks like I'm not going to hit my target of 20lb unless I... well, unless I get my head cut off, basically. That would make a good diet book... Dietcapitation: Paleo didn't work? Take a chainsaw to your excess weight! Um. Where was I? So I think I'm doing pretty well, all things considered and I'll not get bummed about the sudden downturn in the weight loss thingy. I tend to find these final stretches (it's the last week, innit?) to be a bit difficult and I tend to find it hard to stay motivated, but that's not going to happen on this challenge - Right Scouts!? *=for those who don't get the reference...
  12. Mmm, lentil soup: Breakfast, lunch and dinner of champions!
  13. I had another run today and still couldn't quite seem to regain the power I had on Saturday. I came in at 1:13, which was disappointing. Next time. Anyway, the last couple of days have been a little short on exercise but I have been eating properly and doing a lot of portuguese practice on italki. As I get thinner I can dust off more and more clothes that I had outgrown: The shorts I've been running in for the last 4 weeks just fall off my arse now, so I got out some much nicer chunky blue canvas cargo shorts that- just 4 weeks ago - I couldn't even close over the soft blubbery swell of my cakebelly. This morning... well, they are still a bit snug but they're a pretty decent fit, so I used those instead. These trousers I'm wearing now have been in the wardrobe for the last couple of years too. I'm off up to Scotland in an hour or so for a funeral and to spend a couple of nights. Scotland is not known for healthy food and I guess I'll have other things on my mind, so we'll see how it goes...
  14. Sorry if I have asked this already (i have the memory of a goldfish) but have you tried italki.com? I am finding it pretty helpful for Portuguese now - It's an online language exchange site! I heard about it through a blog called "Fluent in 3 Months" run by a bloke called Benny the Irish Polyglot, which is also well worth a look if you haven't already seen it. 15. Sounds like you're doing well. Feeling better/slimmer is what it's all about. Oh and be kind to your knees. As the song says, you'll miss them when they're gone. ( )
  16. Thanks! Out now on a misty morning failing to run at anywhere like Saturday's speed. I think I need to start stretching properly after Sunday's sculling sessions - my hamstrings are twanging like guitar strings with every step. Looks like I walk from here... 17. Good luck with the PT test! And I hope work improves!
  18. Reading, not eating, I hope...? Was it good? I've never heard of it?

    Phylanx go!

Sounds like some good strength work there. Keep it up. And yes, resist those deserts ;^)
  20. Blimey, matey - you're having a trying time of it. Keep punishing those chair-arms and let that leg get rested ready for the next challenge!
  21. Yeah, it's not so bad for a sitch like that.
