  1. I joined Nerd Fitness back in 2011 and instantly loved it. As a result, I became a ninja, running 3-4 miles a day and starting down the parkour route. I lost a total of 40 pounds and had my six pack back -- something I hadn't had since my 20's Then I got injured. I'm not sure if it was a previous injury that flared up or if I just pushed it too hard. My right hip was severely fractured and I would need a major surgery to fix it. I was on crutches for six months and afterward, couldn't walk more than a quarter of a mile without being in severe pain. Two and a half years later, I can walk maybe 2 miles before the pain gets to be a problem. The hardest part about this isn't the physical handicap -- I feel as though that's conquerable. It's the mental and emotional handicap. The self talk since then has been pretty negative and I'm not sure how to get out of this trap. I've tried going to the gym several times over the past few years, but I can't seem to make myself go for longer than a week. I'm trying this out again (both the site and the gym) and I would like some words of encouragement to keep me motivated. Thanks, guys!
  2. Okay, here's the deal. I've had no less than three life-changing events in the past month. Sorry for the lack of updates. Here is where I am with my goals: 1) I have lost 12 pounds so far, with less than a week to go before this challenge ends. 2) Freerunning (parkour) will probably have to wait until I move. I did manage a few cat leaps and underbars.. I tried the side somersault on trampolines and failed. Badly. Will need to work up the courage to do that one again. 3) I have two 14k mountains scheduled in the next month. However, for reasons beyond my control, I was not able to get any of them during this challenge. 4) I have kept my promises to myself -- that feels good. I have been completely paleo (with the exception of half a slurpee with everclear in it.. don't ask) since I started this challenge. I have been open and honest with everyone and have had a generally positive attitude towards everything, despite everything else that is going on. Overall, I feel much better about a lot of things. I look forward to the next challenge.
  3. Okay, did some weights today. I've been doing very well with the caveman diet and it's starting to show. I've made a record of what I've eaten, what exercises I've done, and how much I weigh every day since starting this challenge. It may or may not get posted at the end.
  4. Last night was heavy, heavy drinking (clear tequila, so it's not ALL bad). And right after Steve's post about drinking, too.. Long story short, no exercise today.
  5. Welcome to NerdFitness. As you are a fellow traceur, I will follow your progress closely. Good luck with your goals! Reach out to us if you need support.
  6. Great job on the soda! I thought The Avengers was awesome -- I may have to take my son. Keep up the good work, it sounds like you're making some good progress!
  7. Feeling as though I'm coming down with a cold today, so only did some moderate exercises, though. I did manage to do a weak cat leap from a hand rail and get over a ten-foot wall, so that was pretty cool. Sprints, cat leap practice, still too chicken to try a side somersault. In other news, I'm getting the capacitors I need to fix my 52" LCD TV. Once I solder those on, I'll give myself a virtual +1 INT (even though that's not a statistic). Hopefully the TV doesn't blow up...
  8. Jaqen H'ghar, definitely. Valar Morghulis.
  9. Guild Member Report: Novice Nano - Squad C I sold the last cow I owned today for a bag of silver. I can use the coins to help with my new life closer to the town center. Once there, I plan to meet up with fellow guild members or possibly start my own localized clan. Things are progressing nicely with my training. I have improved slightly with my stamina and will begin lessons from a master acrobatics mentor soon. As of right now, my confidence is high -- I truly believe I can accomplish my goals. I await word from guild leaders for new missions.
  10. @drsloomis: I live in Longmont -- it is about 25 miles north of Denver and maybe 15 from Boulder. I had an interview today for a new job in the Denver Tech Center. Chance of success: 90%. That's great because it will be the first job where I'm officially in the 6 figure range (excluding bonuses). I had to take it easy yesterday -- I think I was feeling the effects of working all week (weight training two days, sprints/jumps/vaults/flips the other days) -- so I only did about half an hour of light stuff. The rest did me good, today I feel fantastic. LOTS of energy. My son and I went to the local high school and practiced sprints and front handsprings today. I took the advice sent to me in email -- I've taken my picture and will take my picture every week throughout the challenge. In addition, I am recording which exercises I do on which days, what I'm eating and how much I weigh. Not sure if the weight is so important just yet as I'm just starting out -- I expect to see some increase before I see some decrease. I'm more concerned with how I feel right now than how I look and how much I weigh. Today was a good day.
  11. Great job breaking down the goals -- I may have to modify mine in the same fashion. Sounds like you're off to a pretty good start, I'll follow your progress and provide some raa-raa's!
  12. For the 14'ers, I have the following planned out: Mt. Columbia, May 27th, 14,073 ft. Mt. Democrat, June 3rd, 14,148 ft. Mt. Princeton, June 31st, 14,197 ft. Long's Peak, August 26th, 14,259 ft. It stretches beyond the 6 week period. I don't have any control over the dates, so I put less attribute points on it.
  13. Great goals! Okay, now I have something to aspire to. Will keep an eye on this thread.
