  1. I haven't been on here in a long time. I don't know why, but my recent struggles have brought me back to nerd fitness, as I was able to do a challenge a few years ago that lead to a lot of success. Unfortunately, I got away from the things that made me successful. I'm hoping I can get back to that by taking baby steps again and building momentum. For my challenge, I'm going to pick 4 small things that are related to things I'm struggling with, and hopefully build into a well thought out challenge to start the new year. 1. Walk 20 minutes every day - This was really the number one thing that started me on an upward trend a few years ago. It gave me the confidence that I could set a goal and be consistent enough to do it everyday. That made me believe I could achieve the things I wanted to. Eventually, I want to get back to running, but I'm going to start slow. 2. No candy at work, No chips when I get home - These are two of the worst things I have trouble with. I have big plans for eating clean once I get to the Jan. challenge, but if I can do those two things, then I'm not going to beat myself up for the holiday eating that is coming. I think that will be a great stepping stone that I can go forward with. I'm just looking for a victory at this point that I can build on. 3. Body weight workout - 3 times a week just to get moving. Goal is to be where I can get back to CF in the spring. 4. Journal every day - I did this a few years ago as well, and I didn't realize the value until I lost my way again and was able to read what I was doing/thinking to get back on track. I know how important this is. Ill check in a few times a week. That really kept me accountable last time. I hope everyone has a great challenge, accomplishes what their goals, and has a great holiday.

    Challenge #2

The last week was rough with my deadlines, but my eating stayed perfect the whole challenge. For challenge 2, I lost another 11 lbs. that puts me around 25 total since 4th of July. Im definitely sticking around! Just have to tread water for the next week work wise and I'll be good. I appreciate everybody checking in! This challenge was more about surviving at the end for me, so I'm going to take a lot of positives out of it. Not perfect by any means, but it kept me moving toward my overall goal.

    Challenge #2

I went MIA last week, sorry about that! Work deadlines/life killed my challenge last week. Thankfully my diet stayed perfect all week, however almost everything but my walks got shuffled back. By far the worst week I've had in 2 challenges. Having said that, I'm going to brush it off and get back after it this week. The fact that the diet stayed perfect through a crazy week gives me a lot of motivation, so I'm going to focus on that instead of the bad. I'm in the home stretch on whole 30 so I want to finish it super strong just to prove to myself that I can do it. That alone will make my challenge a success, and I'll keep building on the other items like workouts and flexibility. People at work are starting to notice how much weight I've lost and that's a great feeling, even though I try not to rely on outside things to feel good. All in all, I think if I refocus and go hard after this week, I can have an extremely successful challenge even if the consistency grade doesn't reflect it
  4. Wow! Hope you are staying safe! It's been crazy to watch how much rain you guys have gotten down there Looks like you have some great goals, best of luck working towards them!
  5. Thats a great attitude. One lapse isnt going to define you or your challenge! Keep it up

    Challenge #2

@zeroh13 and @Wobbegong This week was perfect on every quest except for mobility. I'm not sure why its such a pain to get me to stretch, but Ill figure it out. Workouts have been amazing for 2 straight weeks, and I get up excited to do Crossfit on those days and also to row. It will be fun in future challenges to add more and more rounds to what I'm doing, and not feel overwhelmed. Eating was perfect all week, and I actually had my doubts I would make it because we had our Fantasy Football draft Thursday night for my work league, and it had everything I could possibly want (pizza, chips and queso, deserts, alcohol, etc.) and I didn't eat or drink anything except carrots, broccoli, and water (the guy hosting made fun of me but was nice enough to get a small veggie tray so that was actually very nice to see). I couldn't believe it! I feel like if I can make it through that, than there's nothing stopping me from getting through the challenge perfect. Last weekend was really tough, so I'm hoping this weekend is easier with the cravings for bad food. Other than that, I could not have asked for a better week. Clothes that were so tight I could barely get them on back at the beginning of July are now almost falling off. I don't even worry about what I weigh anymore. I think about it from time to time, and it will be fun to see at the end, but its no longer the reason I'm doing this. So far so good, I hope everyone else is doing great! Also @Wobbegong haha no the BP is just my initials, although my friends and family would probably say that would be a fitting name since I can drive them crazy sometimes
  7. Don't let it get you down when you don't follow the plan exactly for the day. I know what you mean about feeling guilty when things get off track a little, but the fact that you are striving to eat well and walk is all that matters right now! If you build those habits, it will be self-sustaining until you reach your goals. All of my success over the last few months can be traced back to just walking 5 minutes a day. It was never going to be enough to make me lose the weight Ive lost, but it showed me I could actually do something consistently day in and day out. Then it dawned on me that if I could make that a habit, then I could make anything a habit. After that my confidence went through the roof and i haven't looked back. Ive kind of figured out (at least for me) that the best mindset has been to trust in the process and not the result at the end of the day. That might sound counter intuitive where you could say all that matters is results, but I firmly believe now that all that matters is your mindset and habits. Ive willed myself to weight loss before by giving up the things I enjoy eating, only to put it all back on because my identity and habits never changed (the day in and day out process) and only the short term daily results changed. But the second you decide to become a healthy person and adopt that as your mindset, the battle is over. You wont have to beat yourself up for slip ups as you change the habits that you have built over time. The simple fact that you are here fighting is enough to say you have what it takes! My wife and I are doing the Whole30 diet right now and its very low carb, and I can personally vouch for how your are feeling. Its normal as your body adjusts. We are on day 11 and I'm just now feeling normal again. Its worth fighting through the short term whining, I promise! And you also have your hands full with all that walking at Disney! My wife and I love the parks and I know exactly what you mean about how much you walk. We took our fitbits one time and it said we walked 12 miles. We couldn't wait to get back to the hotel
  8. Awesome first week! Keep it up!

Haha thanks! That's what I keep telling myself. I tend to thrive with a me against the world mindset so I just look at it as they're doing me a favor. Week one down, 3 more to go
  10. These goals are awesome! I especially like that one of them revolves around making meals in advance. I'm on my second challenge and once I started meal prepping, everything fell into place for me. Now it feels second nature after almost 2 months. Hope your stomach is ok! Don't let any set backs take your eyes off the goals your after. It sounds like you're doing great!

    Challenge #2

Made it to the end of my first work week on challenge two, and its been perfect so far. Ive got my wife to thank for that because we've both had good and bad days this week but we keep each other going and pick each other up when the other one isn't feeling it. The diet has been amazing, and even though I'm not surprised I made it this far because I have challenge 1 as a successful reference, I am definitely surprised at how tough its been. Its got my full attention, because I am craving a lot of the stuff I used to eat. I'm very excited that its a no excuses 30 day diet as far as no bad foods, so that means I will keep on trucking during the weekends. Having the standard be perfection like that used to scare me but its something to almost hide behind now for a little strength, because its almost like its not even a choice whether or not to eat bad, its already been decided. Last challenge I had cheat meals on the weekends and while they tasted great at the time, I always felt like I could've powered through it if I put my mind to it. I guess Ill get to test that theory this weekend. I just finished up my last crossfit/rowing workout for the week and it was awesome. I'm glad I went to that this time around. In the end, its so watered down that NF body weight is possibly better from an effective standpoint, but this is making me want to workout and that's the feeling/habit I want to build this time around. Everything has been great so far, I just need to keep it rolling through the end of week one and I think I'll be good to go the rest of the way As a side note, I don't even think about weighing anymore. My successes are process oriented and not so much result oriented now. I'm hoping that translates into sustained momentum. Hope everyone else is doing great!

They have definitely been after me pretty good this week (came in to a caveman picture for the Paleo diet at my desk one morning, and had comments every day in the lunch room) and Ive mostly written it off as just people having fun and giving me a hard time. Having said that, I'm the type of person that will dig my heals in more when they come after me like that, and that's usually a bad thing but in this case it will work out great
  14. Hey Velkyn, You've got some great goals, especially the walking. I'm on my second challenge, and the walking for me was a really nice way to get back into exercise and help me build some habits early on that carried me through the entire 4 weeks. Best of luck and I'm looking forward to seeing you accomplish all your goals!

    Challenge #2

Thanks @zeroh13! So far I'm 3 days in and everything has gone perfectly. The diet has been interesting, and I can say I'm very lucky to have my wife going through it with me because Im not sure I could do it alone. We are ironing out the issues and I think its going to mostly revolve around shopping and prep time. We will definitely get better as we go. The food has been surprisingly good, and I feel physically and mentally better even after only 3 days. I'm pretty excited to see what a month will do. The biggest challenge this time around might be managing my co-workers. They've actually been a little less than supportive. In no way is that going to stop me from completing the challenge, but I'm getting a little push back for trying to make healthy changes and its a little surprising. Having said that, I think (or I hope) they are really just trying to adjust to me doing things differently and not actively rooting against me. I didn't really tell anyone about the last challenge so I'm wondering if it was a mistake to tell them about this one. In the end, its no big deal. This challenge is the most important thing I have going on right now because I know it will lead to me getting better and growing as a person as well as losing weight. All in all, its been another great start and my confidence is super high. I'm hoping that continues.
