  1. Well I've always learned that if you have a goal, such as running a half-marathon, then the best way to practice is to do it, right? I think I heard on a podcast somewhere that when you make the run more difficult, it will be easier when you actually have to run. Like, if you're running on the treadmill, bring up the incline more to make the run more difficult. I've also seen leg weights or people holding small dumbbells, but that's up to you. I do know that when running, leg strength is important and cardiovascular fitness, so running, stair climbing, hiking, leg strength training, and cycling?
  2. Hey there KaelanBlayde, welcome to the community! I like how you listed your goals here, but I have a question for you: What is the reason/motivation for you to make a change like this? Getting healthy? Appearance? Tired of what you were doing in the past? I'm sure we'd all love to hear!
  3. Welcome to the Nerd Fitness forums! I'm sure you'll fit in great here! Seems to me that making gains and losing weight are two very common goals here. Some have more difficulty than others, but there is no lack of motivation on this site. Keep up the work and you'll get what you're working towards!
  4. I'm so happy you've included goals other than fitness. It's important to share everything you're trying to do to improve your life. French seems like a good language to learn. I, myself, am working on Spanish, though passively. Right now it is all about fitness and League of Legends for me... Anywho, welcome to the forums!
  5. Welcome to the forum! I'm sure that, after a bit of time and exploration, you'll know your way around. We are all interested in hearing about your goals, both fitness and otherwise!
  6. I say the best thing you can do about friendship/relationship fallouts is to make sure you improve yourself, so that they see that you didn't really need them to succeed. The best case for someone who isn't your friend is to see you fail. I want to see you kick some butt! Go do something great!
  7. Take advantage of boredom and bursts of motivation too! Every moment you have nothing to do is a moment you could be pumpin' that iron!
  8. Welcome to the club. I'm so glad you're here to make a lasting change in yourself, and I commend you greatly for having the courage to post a picture of yourself for the world to see. I really hope you succeed and I'm excited to see your journey!
  9. I don't really have small goals, but I have a big one: when I reach 280lbs, I'm going to get my first tattoo. I am 25 lbs down and I have 20 to go. I'm scared to get a tattoo but I've always wanted a Legend of Zelda tat, and it is some great motivation for me to reach that goal.
  10. I love the fact that I have stairs in my apartment, so I can take a break from the PC every now and then and go run up and down a few times. A great way to keep myself active, and stair climbing is just about the best cardio you can do (with calisthenics for the legs, too)!
  11. I love the idea of making small changes to create a lasting lifestyle that is more healthy. As for boring treadmill walks, I like podcasts. They work way better than music for me, because they keep my mind active. I have some for comedy, some for news, and some for educational purposes. A good mix to keep my mind busy while I'm doing boring tasks like treadmill, work, or laundry. Hope that tip helps!
  12. Thank you for sharing. I want you to know that I'm happy you joined a community this time around. There are many around for Fitness, and they have all helped me stay on track. I like the idea of sharing information, successes and failures with your fellow journeymen, so we can make sure we all stay on track. Respawn, find that OP weapon and wreck some nubs. English: Get in the gym, pump some iron, burn some fat and become the best you possible! I'm rooting for you!
  13. Welcome to club Asteros, I'm happy to see that you have goals to achieve, despite the setbacks! I know some days can be taxing, and difficult to find the motivation to continue. I hope being part of this community is what helps you complete every mission, including the Final Fantasy one!!
  14. It is unfortunate that you've lost interest in gaming. I think it s great when gamers are more aware of their fitness, and are able to do both. For example, I have two goals: Rank up in League Rank up in Health I want to do both, and I will. I'm sure you'll succeed and I'm happy to hear about your adventure! Also congratulations on the baby!
  15. I heard somewhere that going every single day is better than going for a few days per week. Even if you don't go super hard, the idea is to get in every single day. Say you go on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, right? You have a hard day on Monday, and tell yourself that you can make it up the next day. Tuesday comes along.. you say you still have 5 more days in the week, so you decide to keep putting it off. Come Sunday, you haven't gone at all, because you haven't found the time. This is something that I would love to do. I read it on some website that I don't remember, but it makes a great deal of sense. You can't talk yourself into going another day because you have to go every day! I made the excuse before that, after work, my back hurts too much to work out, because I'm so worn out (And an obese individual can easily have back pain). But now, today, I worked out on the same day as my work. My back was killing me, so I didn't work out the back as hard, but I still went to the gym, did as much as I could, and went home happy, knowing that I've accomplished something I didn't think I was going to be able to before. Hope this helps. I want to see you completely motivated for the next gym run!
