  1. I tried WarriorAmy's recipe this weekend, it was fantastic. the idea of chocolate chili or pumpkin chili or chili with squash in it kinda scares me. I decided to go for the simplest one.
  2. I didn't see a doctor, I was planning on it, but I wanted to wait until after the weekend. after staying off of it completely for about 4 days it actually seems to have healed, which is weird because it initially hurt so bad I thought it was broken. I'm taking it a little easy, doing my cardio on an elliptical to minimize impact and wearing an ankle brace.
  3. after a really tough strength-training session my extremities shake for upwards of an hour, especially my hands. Is this normal?
  4. I LOVE running. I've been running 4-5 times a week since January. It's helped me lose a crap-ton of weight, and I love getting faster and stronger and upping my chances of survival in the zombie apocalypse. I can't run now. I can barely walk. I don't know how I busted it, I don't even know what the extent of the damage is, but suffice to say, it might be a few weeks before I get back to normal. how am I supposed to keep my running skill up if I can't run for weeks? I mean, obviously I'm going to have to move my workouts into the gym, focus on strength training, and hopefully I'll keep losing weight that way. The real problem is keeping my cardio skill where it is.
  5. Thanks guys! I'll pick one and try it this weekend!
  6. thanks guys, my next big milestone is getting out of the obese range and into the overweight category. 26 more pounds and I'll be there!
  7. I just got under 200 too! it's the most amazing feeling ever isn't it? next milestone for me is getting out of the obese range and into overweight, what's yours?
  8. I've been craving chili like nobody's business lately. I've never made it though, paleo or otherwise. does anybody have a good recipe to share?
  9. you lucky so-and-so. it must be the best feeling ever to be done with term papers, final exams and group projects that only serve to illustrate how much it sucks working with other people. I'll bet you can't wait to be on the other side of the grading process huh?
  10. I haven't been under 200 pounds in YEARS. I've hovered around 220-215 most of the time, in January I hit my absolute highest weight ever at 237 and that was where I started losing weight. anyway, enough backstory. as of about 5 minutes ago, I weigh 199!!!! Boo-Yah. That is all.
  11. If it's just salt that you need, you don't necessarily need to get it from a drink. salted nuts would be a good snack to bump up your salt intake.
  12. This is exactly what I do. you can also play around with different types of salads. throw in some beans, ground beef, and salsa instead of dressing and BAM, taco salad. sesame-ginger pan-seared tuna and avocado slices and cucumber, BAM, california roll salad. kalamata olives, tomatoes marinated in basamic and olive oil, roasted red peppers, BAM, greek salad.
  13. I don't disagree with anything he said. I'm not doing the paleo diet due to its historical accuracy, I'm doing it because of the science behind it and the success stories I've heard. I could have told you that indigenous people ate grains and sugar as per their availability, but historical accuracy isn't the point. Basically, the modern Paleo diet, and the Paleolithic Paleo diet are NOT the same, and that's ok. Our ancestors also needed a lot more calories than we do as every available moment of the day was spent running from things, running after things, hauling things, digging for things, basically the exact opposite of sitting at a computer or studying for finals or playing skyrim. That we should eat the same foods as indigenous people was never a legitimate argument to me.
  14. if you're not paleo and none of the individual ingredients are an issue, then just have a cookie. have A cookie, or have 3 really, really small cookies. or have 100 calories less for breakfast, lunch and dinner, and then have 300 calories worth of cookies. what I would suggest is, buy (or make) the cookies, take out however many you're allowed to eat, and give the rest to a neighbor so that they're not even in the house tempting you.
  15. holy cow, I just did the math, I ended up only eating 1350 calories (give or take depending on size estimations and the amount of oil used). I didn't even count all day and I felt like I'd been stuffing my face. it's amazing how much you can eat when sugar and grains get eliminated.
  16. Breakfast: 3 strips bacon 3 eggs coffee (cheated with a tiny bit of creamer here) Lunch: 3 cups of lettuce 1 carrot handful of broccoli & green beans 1 grilled chicken breast homemade salad dressing - olive oil, balsamic vinegar, lemon juice, ginger, garlic, salt, pepper Dinner: steak roasted green beans with ginger, garlic, sesame oil, hot pepper seeds, salt I also had a few black pepper cashews and some dehydrated veggies for a snack. tonight if I get hungry I'll have an apple with some almond butter.
  17. I agree that you don't want to do anything strenuous. if there's even a teeny, tiny chance you might pull a muscle or over-exert yourself so that you're busted up for the wedding it's not worth it. if you MUST do something, go for a nice, long walk or a leisurely swim.
  18. eep. at least mine happened when I was on my own front porch and I was easily able to clean myself up and change. I mean, waddling back to the bathroom in front of my friend was embarrassing enough, in a super public place like the mall? I can't imagine anything more horrifying. poor guy.
  19. tell your roomies to bugger off. doing something like paleo means you're gonna HAVE to cook your own meals. just make a deal that you are responsible for your food, they are responsible for theirs. stagger your mealtimes so that you're no all in the kitchen at once since space is an issue, and get a slow cooker so that you can make chicken or chili or soup early in the day so that it is ready by dinner. if all else fails, get a hot plate or george foreman grill and do your cooking in the living room or laundry room or wherever. also, take a day on the weekend to precook as many of your meals as possible so that you only need to heat them back up later.
  20. yadz

    I need HELP.

the easy fix there is, don't have eggs in the morning. there is absolutely no rule that says you have to have "breakfast food" for breakfast. I worked nights for 2 years, I got used to waking up and having a salad, I don't think I ate "breakfast food" that entire time. have some chicken instead, or tuna steak, or a salad. and if you feel you MUST have eggs in the morning, try them a different style. hardboiled eggs don't have the same texture that bugs you. or you could drop a few in a blender with some fruit like orange julius.
  21. the good news is I'm not switching from a very grain-heavy diet in the first place. I had already been eating very close to paleo, just because by eliminating bread and sweets I got more bang for my caloric buck. the most grain-laden food I would ever have is a mini pizza made on a tortilla shell or a side of potatoes with my chicken breast. the hardest things for me are going to be the little things, like seasonings, sauces, dressings and dessert. but hey, bacon and eggs for breakfast (as opposed to a granola bar), so that's sure as hell an upside.
  22. I was going to wait until tomorrow morning, but I'd been primal already since monday (to ease into it) and I finally got all the cheesy veggie casserole finished so I started with an awesome paleo dinner (steak and asparagus). obviously it's too early to feel any different, but I am optimistic. it was a delicious dinner, and I know I can eat that way all the time (well, maybe not steak because it's expensive, but you know what I mean). I thought I'd be going nuts wanting some dessert, I don't have a HUGE sweet tooth or anything but I usually have a cookie or a quarter cup of ice cream. I mean, sure, I'd like dessert, but I don't mind not having it as much as I had thought I would. I know that a lot of people advocate the "meh, close enough" method, where they'll have a cheat day once a week, but I'm not going to do that, not for the first 30 days anyway. I am ALL IN for the next 4 weeks. I'll let you all know how it goes.
  23. I've tried some horrible diets in the past and was wondering if any of you have had similar experiences. my worst is a tie between nutrisystem and alli. technically alli is a pill and not a diet, but it was bad enough to warrant a mention. Nutrisystem made me feel sick all the time, but that wasn't the worst of it. the worst thing was that it gave me painful gas pressure and unrelenting flatulence. Alli... well if you're easily grossed out I would stop reading right now. What Alli does is it stops your body from absorbing the fat in your meals, causing you to eject it during your bathroom time (you poo grease basically). Even if you're on a low-fat diet, as I was, it will leech every ounce available from your meals and eject it out the other end. Well, it so happened that on the second day of taking these pills I was hanging out with my friend on my front porch. The need to break wind came over me and I figured it doesn't get any better ventilated than outside, so I let loose. what I thought was gas, turned out to be a pocket of grease. That's right, I sharted a not-insubstantial amount of grease into my underpants. I relate these embarrassing accounts for two reasons. 1: to help others avoid making my mistakes and trying these horrible products. and 2: to make you laugh and encourage you to open up about your past experiences.
  24. are there any gastrointestinal horrors I should be on the lookout for when I start? things I've experienced on other diets include (but are not limited to): heartburn (grapefruit) nausea (atkins) diarrhea (raw food) constipation (slim-fast) relentless painful gas (f***ing nutrisystem) bloating (slim-fast, f***ing nutrisystem)
  25. wait... nvm, when i quoted your post now I can see the cross-outs, we're cool. thanks folks. this sounds tough but I think that once I get into the swing of it, things should be pretty doable.
