  1. Sorry if this isn't allowed or considered to be venting instead or something. I'm so bummed about all the progress I had made just over a year ago. I had lost around 40 pounds and was feeling great but had a few things happen. I started experiencing a lot of burnout from college, followed by a break up, depression, other mental health issues, and physical health issues. My home life also went completely nuts for the most part. I moved back home when I started college because my job does not pay well at all or give many hours (10 a week) despite me being a manager. Things were awesome for a while and I managed to lose around 40 pounds. At the time, my family was pretty supportive and proud of me. We divided up bills and I helped out with what I could. My father handled all the shopping until he decided he wasn't going to anymore. We haven't had any healthy foods in the house for over a year. He began only buying junk food or fast food and bringing it home. For example he'll buy something like 3 tubs of ice cream, several packs of oreos, and other snacks and call it grocery shopping. Its driving the other people in the house nuts as well. My mom wanted to take up the grocery shopping since my father seems to go below the bare minimum but its really the last thing she wants to do after working for 12 hours a day. Since I make barely any money, I can't really afford to go grocery shopping for 4 people. In the past I have suggested that he just give me the money and I'll grab food on the way home from classes or work but he refuses because its "his job as the head of the house." At first I would just refuse to eat at home but it started messing with me since I was always hungry and drowsy from having no energy. With my tax return I was going to join a gym since working out at home is just a hassle with so many people in a small house but then all of this corona stuff has happened and gyms are closed near me (lol) I'm just really depressed over all of this and I'm trying to figure out how to "respawn" in my current situation. At the moment I'm stuck trying to figure out anything. All I know is that I hate that I've gained back over 30 of the 40 pounds that I lost. Is there anyone that can give some kind of advice or helpful hints?
  2. Yeah, that's the one I meant, I should have been more specific. Sinc eI had never really heard of a circuit I wasn't sure what all of it meant lol
  3. Oh okay that makes sense, I was doing 5 of the 6 on the PDF and thought it meant do all 6, rest, do all 6 again, repeat a 3rd time. Thanks for your help! I may start doing the circuits as I get more active and everything.
  4. Thanks, I'll try that out as well. I also started doing some of that body weight training mentioned above at home today and feel pretty good after it. The only things I'm unsure of: is a circuit how many times I do the exercises in a day or something else?
  5. Thanks for the help! Yeah I just know that if I try doing it all at home then it won't go well. That's also the reason I no longer study at home, my Netflix is constantly calling for me lol.
  6. I would love working out at home but I feel like I don't have the disciple, or the room to do some stuff really. (small house, 4 other people) I had hoped that if I paid for a year membership then it would convince me to go since I'm paying for it if that makes sense. The gym is owned by the hospital in my town and includes classes and everything with the membership. It's a surprisingly good deal. Maybe a gym would be a good reason to get out of the house. Maybe I can find a friend to do it with too. The body fitness stuff is a good idea though. I may have to see if I can replace the dumbbell rows (none here) and the walking lunges (not much room) with other things and try it for a few weeks before jumping into the gym. Thanks for the link!. Honestly eating differently helped a lot, but now I'm at the point where I'm eating so few calories that I'm going over and starving at the end of the day. Unfortunately everyone I live with doesn't care about their health lol.
  7. So I've been avoiding joining a gym for a long time. The one everyone loves near me was pretty expensive ($500 a year). I managed to lose 50 pounds from just eating differently but then gained about 10 back over the holidays. On top of this, I need to have a surgery and my doctor wants me to lose weight for it. Well it turns out there is a cheaper gym even closer that I didn't know about. Anyway life story over, if I join the gym I'm scared that I'll look like an idiot. I have absolutely no idea what I'm doing and have no idea what the names of the exercises or anything are called. I'm sure they will have people there to help out with stuff like that but I want a little knowledge before going in. I really haven't been to a gym since I was in high school, and even then it was just for a basic P.E. class. My goal is strictly to lose weight. When I get down to my goal weight, I would then like to possibly work on building muscle. What are some tips you can give a beginner who is just joining the fitness world and is a little intimidated. Apologies if this question isn't allowed or just doesn't fit in this area.
  8. Hey guys, sorry just saw these replies, I think my email marked them as spam or something. I actually have been making a big calorie deficit, to the point where I would normally (and was) losing 2 pounds a week. I jumped on the scale this morning after a shower and notice that I may have finally broken out of the rut that I was in. It's saying I've lost a pound more than what it was, instead of jumping back in forth. I haven't done anything different than the calorie counting and portion control that I was doing before constantly jumping between 21 and 25 pounds lost, so I'm not sure what's up with it. Maybe my body was just getting used to adjusting how much calories I need now.
  9. It varies but breakfast almost always consists of a cup of Cheerios and 1/2 cup of 2% milk. Maybe a banana with it. Lunch is usually a sandwich of some kind. Usually between a cold cut from subway (if I get foot long, I eat half for lunch and half later at work), a 6 inch grilled chicken sub with marinara and parm. cheese, or a PB&J. If I have a snack, its veggie straws and dinner varies a lot depending on the rest of my family. They aren't dieting so sometimes its unhealthy stuff but small portions of it. Edit: Also when I do exercise I pedal a moderate speed (for me anyway) but the bike says its not burning much, assuming its accurate.
  10. Okay cool I'll try doing that. Any idea how to on myfitnesspal? I don't want to mess anything up on accident. Edit: I managed to update it I think and it says that I now need about 100 calories less. Guess we'll see if that helps in a week or 2.
  11. Usually I have: 1 cup of cheerios .5 cup of 2% milk Sometimes a small banana. If I'm in a hurry I get a protein showdown at Sheetz, it has: Flatbread Eggwhites cheddar cheese & pepper jack cheese.
  12. Hey guys, so I've been dieting since around August or September and up until last month I had lost around 20 - 23 pounds and then suddenly stopped and started gaining it back. At my current rate while riding my bike for 30 minutes or so I only burn about 60 calories according to the monitor so it doesn't seem like it is doing much. I also stick to water about 95% of the time (Exceptions being at the movies) and the most calories I take in are probably 2000 and the minimum is roughly 1850 or so. Is there any advice or tips for how I can start losing weight again? Edit: with the app I use my current loss should be 1-2 pounds a week but its been a month since I lost any and started gaining it back.
  13. I have one with handles but due to a back injury, I had to switch to a bike with a seat that has a back rest (if thats the word?). They didn't have a combination of the 2 where I shopped for the equipment. It works out for the better since my back isn't in as much pain anymore.
  14. I was 277 when I started and I've lost 18.6 pounds just from changing how I eat. I use the myfitnesspal to see how many calories I'm eating a day and try to stick close to my goal. I have only recently started exercising this week so the 18.6 pounds was only by changing what foods I eat and how much I eat. I definitely say go with the chicken like you said before. Its probably the main meat that I consume at home.
