So, to wrap it all up, in the last two weeks, I've gone on one run and did pushups twice. That's 6 points, and I've been pretty good about the veggies, so that's probably a point a day, 14. 93+20 = 113 points total, That's a B+!

Better than expected considering I spent two weeks like this:

  2. PUPPYYYYYY. I will name him Brunch.

I vote for a Saturday night if that's cool with everyone. As far as actual time? Idk. If Google isn't lying to me then I'm 3 hours ahead of RedCedar, 1 ahead of Redeaglespirit, and 5 behind the ladies across the pond. I'm totally up for doing this multiple times with multiple people since time zones are apparenlt giving us the finger.

Brunch most certainly needs a monocle and top-hat. If I was better at the computer I would magic this. But I'm not.

Flea, since you're kind of in the middle maybe you should host and just be drunk all day. That way you could start with the folks that spell color with a "U" and use "S's" instead of "Z's", take a nap and then start again with Redeaglespirit and I. I'll drink in CDT!

  3. I'm up for the drunken hangout (and will look at women with you!)...and happy with the t-shirts I'm collecting from 5k's ;)

    Soooo... when is this happening?

Also, please accept this picture of a tiny puppy with a mustache as an apology for being complete not here for the last almost two weeks.

  4. I forgot to add an important detail to my story!

    I went from allie-brosh.jpg to Teddy-Roosevelt-Getting-Things-Done-Reac

Because I cut my hair! I have my own clippers and I looooove cutting it myself, because every time, even if it's a little trim, it always makes my day because I feel like:

Damn, I could just watch that all day....

    Soooooo, anyway....before I was all:

    post-27421-Im-in-a-glass-case-of-emotion

and disappeared from the interwebs, I had 73 points.

Between then and today, I exercised exactly 0 times. I made several attempts to eat veggies, so I'll guess I had at least 11 points of greens. That means I started today with 84 points.

I went for a run after work followed by a quick attempt at some chins/pulls on a tree branch, giving me 5 points. Then dinner included cauliflower, broccoli, peas and cabbage, for another 4 points. And Bacon, of course. but no challenge points for bacon. Just happy soul points.

Today brings me up to 93 points total!

  5. If only I had been lost to the sun. No, I've been lost elsewhere. Pictures tell the story much better than I can. I'm not great with giving feels names.

    First I was all:

So hopefully now I can be like:

  6. RedCedar did I scare you away with the lube conversation? :(

Hahahaha, no. You most certainly did not scare me away from my own thread by discussing bacon-flavored lube. Life just got super busy, as it does in grad school, and then I was away all weekend volunteering for my girlfriend's girls empowerment mentorship program.

  7. Soooo challenge wise, today was an

    ebdf77a2d10240_full.jpg

I forgot to eat all day until dinner. I went to the dining hall to wait for food, when a bucket of red licorice got passed around. A few handfuls later I realized what I was doing and stopped to eat some real food. Unfortunately tonight it was chili mac pasta. Then the kitchen made this dessert everyone here just calls "crack bars." They're like s'more rice crispy treats, made with graham cracker cereal, marshmallows and chocolate chips. We've got a new chef who "messed up" the first batch so he made a ton more. I couldn't help myself. I just kept eating crack bars until I felt sick. And then I had at least one more. Gotta be at least -2 points, one for not eating, one for going dessert-crazy. -2.5

I managed to eek out 73 pushups over 6-ish sets to finish week 2 of the 100 pushups program tonight, so there's at least one plus today.

  8. Pea ... smoothie? Uh ... I'll try it I guess! lol

So, I got really excited about how good my breakfast smoothie was with a handful of frozen peas.... so I made another one for lunch. Peas, kale, tiny bit of broccoli, strawberries and blueberries. I kinda went pea-crazy and it just tasted like peas. Not great, but not bad either. Probably wont be repeating that one though. SO totally worth it if you don't over do it! +2 points for me for veggies!

    74.5 points!

Oh, also I looked back at the numbers I just kind of randomly made up for the sake of grading this sh*tshow of a challenge, and it turns out 150 points (where I'm roughly on track of ending up), is really good! Just under 150 is an A-, 150 or over is an A. 200+ earns an A+ :)

  9. Monday, not much to report. Got some sleep, ate some kale, did some pushups. Going slow, concentrating on form, but the progress is slow going. These New and Improved FormTM pushups are hard! And they make me soooooooo sore everywhere! +3 points on the day!

Today I woke up and dragged myself to Insanity. We were short on time so we did just the Cardio Abs (17 min) twice. Gonna call it 2.5 points instead of the usual 3. ALSO did you know you can throw frozen peas into a smoothie just like frozen fruit? I just learned that this morning. Kale and Peas in the protein fruit smoothie this morning. +2 points! Oh, and split some wood while wait for a meeting to start today, so +1. (You know you live deep in the woods when...)

    Give_Peas_a_Chance__Lennon_by_Starlin.jp.... In your smoothie!

64+8.5..... um maths..... 72.5 points total!

Halfway through the challenge now, if I stay at this pace I'll end up in the neighborhood of 150 points. I don't remember what that means right now, but it sounds good!

  10.

50 Shades, argh. I know the comparison is kind of inevitable, but it portrays an abusive relationship and is not an accurate depiction of the safe, sane, and consensual practices of the vast majority of people who do this stuff. It's not good that the pop culture image of BDSM is based on such a bad example. There's a great (NSFW!) Tumblr called Happy BDSM (NSFW!!) that does a great job showcasing people laughing and enjoying themselves instead of being all ultra serious and stereotypical. There's a reason why I put this under "fun and play" for this challenge! :D Sorry, I'll get off my soap box now! :)

    THIS. So much this!

  11. Why fuck is what I meant hahaha. Coyotes are not anything to be scared of. They will definitely not eat you or tear your limbs off, especially if it's just one. You're much more likely to get bitten by a neighborhood domestic dog. If it is a coyote and you see it again, it will probably just run away. If it doesn't, feel free to yell "I AM NOT A RABBIT, GO AWAY COYOTE!" and it will run away. This is what I teach kids to yell at cougars (except with deer), which are also crepuscular and much more likely to eat you. Cougars probably won't tear your limbs off tho, they tend to stalk quietly for a while and then go right for the neck for a quick kill you'll never see coming.

Annnnyway.... moral of the story is don't be afraid of the coyote, it's pretty cool that you saw one!

Also, I say "because science" all the time to my students.

  12. Aha, ladies and gentleman, i bring you Kraken's teeth

    sandbur2.jpg

Those are all individual barbed grenades waiting to impale passing visitors. It's an inhospitable species of flora.

Its a parently called Cenchrus Spinifex. This even sort of sounds like Kraken teeth. (krakenus spine-us? ok, i'm over caffinated and it's 3am.)

I'm actually really into this plant, I have a sudden desire to know everything about it.

This may be some form of botanical stockholm syndrome.

Naaaaaw, it's not stockholm, it's experiential education! And it's the basis for outdoor ed! Typically we try to give students positive experiences, but whatever works to get you fascinated. I'm both glad and mildly annoyed that you did all the research I was about to procrastinate actual homework with for me. Mostly glad tho. Yay learning about nature!

  13. Crap. It may have a coyote then. Fuuuuck. And hey, I learned a new word today. Thanks!

     ^^^^ Why? ^^^^

Mention the parts of both programs that got you excited, and then say something along the lines of:  "Although I was draw to program B because of Reason(s), upon deeper reflection of my future career goals, I realize Program A would be a better fit because Reason(s)."

  14. Open bar always spells trouble for me. Not only do I consume copious amounts of liquid calories, I tend to make bad food decisions when drinking. This weekend was a prime example: I drunkenly ate half of a chocolate cake. By myself.

While staying honest is important so you can keep improving, don't beat yourself up too much over a few wontons.

    Week 4 here we go!

  15. Are coyotes nocturnal? I was running through a park yesterday morning and saw a doglike animal that wasn't a dog and it just now occurred to me that my brother has seen one around before...

Anyway. Yesterday I went running. Hooray! Tried to do my strength workout there too, but almost cracked my face open trying to do an incline pushup on what I think was a bike rack? Idk. So I went home and did it. Still not okay with the pushups, obviously. The rest I kinda feel like I'm getting better at. Heyo!

And in other news, today's edition of Flea is Fucking Dumb: I picked the wrong grad program. My school has two programs in my field. At first I was super excited about A and B was going to be my backup. Weeks later I saw something in B's description that got me all excited so I accepted that and declined A. Looking back at them yesterday I realized B is absolutely not what I want at all. Brb gonna go drown myself in my own tears.

Coyotes are crepuscular! Meaning they are most active in the in-between times of dawn and dusk. Yaaay for running!

Any chance you could talk to the school about switching back to program A? A few folks in my program are not thrilled because they're realizing now this is not the right program for them. They've had a pretty rough time of it. If you know/think already you're in the wrong program, I'd strongly advise you to do something about it now.

  16. Yesterday was a friend's going away party. I planned on the lots of drinking part, but not so much on the drunken chocolate cake binge :/ um, -0.5 point?

    cake-o.gif

Breakfast both today and yesterday was a big eggs scramble featuring kale, and I went on a short hike yesterday. +3 points on the weekend. 64 total!

  17. We had bacon and eggs for dinner a couple of nights ago ... I wasn't home. :(

    2012-07-24-bacon-pancakes-586x322.jpg

I almost made exactly this for breakfast this morning! Ended up doing kale, mushrooms and mozz omelet with bacon on the side instead. (+1 point!)

Also just got back from a little over an hour of chopping wood, which I think is really fun so I'm calling it a "play workout". I also ran around balancing on all the things after the mountain schoolers finally left, and that was a lot of fun too! +1.5 points!

    61.5 points total!
