  1. Well I didn't get my 3 workouts in last week, I'm pretty bummed about that. I'm still getting over this cold, it will probably be another couple days before I'm healthy again. It kinda sucks, I really just need to rest for two good days, but work has been so nuts, I've been working 10-11 hour days for the past week, including the weekend, so I haven't been able to sleep this cold off. So, looks like I won't accomplish the fitness goal of this challenge. I missed last week entirely, hoping to not miss this week. I can still accomplish my diet and life goal, which is something.
  2. Doing an update a couple days early: I have been sidelined by a nasty cold because of this I'm not sure if I'll be able to reach my fitness goal for this challenge. I'm pretty bummed, but I don't know if I'm going to be able to workout for the next few days. I'm feeling really run down and exhausted from work, and I know I just need to rest and get better. Actually doing that is another thing...
  3. Week 2 update! Fitness- Basically the same as the last update, although I am a little less sore. I've been doing the bodyweight workout 3 days a week, although work is really crazy so fitting it in has been hard. The leg exercises are getting easier, pushups are still pretty hard. I did the workout twice each time this week. I would like to increase that to 3 times, just have to wake up a few minutes earlier or something. Diet- Still no french fries. This goal has had some side effects that I like, such as I'm less likely to cave and get fast food, since I know I can't have french fries right now. So that's good! Life- I missed a couple days here and there, so I retroactively filled those out. I'm beginning to think "every day" was too lofty of a goal, maybe I should have done 5 days a week or something. Oh well, I'm going to try to follow through as much as I can.
  4. Good point! I've kinda fallen off the wagon for this one in the past couple of days, I think because I moved my notebook from the kitchen to my desk. It seems silly, but when it was in my kitchen I HAD to look at it, so I remembered to write in it. So I will move it back when I get home from work, but I am missing a few days now... I'll probably try to retroactively fill those days in. Were you able to make this journal a habit? What worked for you?
  5. Thank you, it's combining my two great loves! Also, kudos to your gif usage.
  6. Hi! I was just about to post an update, thanks for reminding me. Fitness- NF beginner body weight workout 3 times a week. So far so good! I did the beginner body weight workout 3 times last week, in the morning before work. Twice I did it 2 times through, and once I did it one time through, because I was running late for work. I'm trying to find a good routine for this, morning works best, but motivation in the morning is hard. Definitely dealing with a little bit of soreness, and I play ultimate 2 days a week which probably added to that, but by today the soreness isn't as bad. I expected the toughest part to be the pushups, and they are definitely tough for me, but I've found that my legs were the most sore, which was a little surprising. I'm trying to make sure I give myself a day to rest in between. Diet- No french fries. Doing well on this one too! I was at a pub with some friends watching a football game on Saturday, and they had a loaded cheese fries special. I really wanted to get them, it looked delicious, but I stuck to my goal. Didn't even get a beer, because I knew if I got a beer I'd probably want fries! haha Life- write down three good things every day in a journal. I have three good things written for every day. There have been a couple of times I forgot to write something before bed, so I just would write something for the previous day when I woke up in the morning. I had kinda a rough week at work last week, so this was a good thing to try to put myself in a more positive mindset.
  7. OMG i didn't notice the typo until just now lol. BanD geek, not banK geek haha my bad
  8. Basically the most fun people you'll eve meet! lol. I was in marching band elementary school through college, I play the trombone. I still play occasionally and identify as a band geek A band geek is just a type of nerd that is/was in marching band.
  9. I suppose for now my main quest is to just form better habits and actually keep up with it this time, instead of falling back into bad exercise/diet/life habits after 3 weeks like I usually do. I have some bigger long term goals that are probably a little ridiculous and outside the scope of this 4 week challenge. Is that what you mean?
  10. Hi there! Your first goal for this challenge is similar to one of mine, woo! Best of luck to you!
  11. Hi Lincoln_R1! For your first goal, I'm just curious, do you eat/plan to eat veggies at breakfast? Or just lunch or dinner? I know my breakfast tends to be very carby/grainy, and I don't really have time to cook in the morning, so I was interested in what other folks do. Best of luck!
  12. Hi Kevin! I can totally relate to your third goal, the caffeine struggle is real. Best of luck!
  13. Hi Adventure Sarah! Fellow NF newbie here. For your third goal, maybe try the "20 seconds of courage" idea that I've seen on NF. I know it's not easy, but I used this technique (before I knew it was a real thing haha) to make friends when I moved to a new state.
  14. Thank you! I just need someone to hold me accountable and push me to stick with it. I've learned that I'm the type of person that needs to be coached with things like this. The French fry thing, it's more about the domino effect of making healthier food choices when I'm not cooking my own food. I used to cave and buy lunch during the week when I was at work, and I would end up eating greasy fast food, but recently I've been pretty good about packing my lunch. I didn't want to tell myself I wouldn't go out to eat at all, I just want to make healthier choices when I do. So when I go out to grab food/drinks with friends, I'm not gonna deprive myself, just maybe have a salad or veggies as a side. Baby steps!
  15. Hello everyone! I'm new to Nerd Fitness, but not really new to nerd or fitness. Nerd background: I'm an aerospace engineer, band geek, book worm, Whovian, Potterhead, big into GoT/ASOIAF, huge Rush fan, crocheter... you get the idea, I've got some nerd cred. Fitness background: I've played sports my whole life. Basketball, Ultimate, volleyball, you name it. I just like to play! However, I've never been particularly fast/agile/athletic, which is something I want to work on. I've run a few 5ks before, I was pretty slow, but I finished. Quest: I've started and quit many times in trying to get fit, so I think a 4 week challenge will help me focus for short spurts. As of now, I've been running a few days a week, playing Ultimate, and meal planning pretty consistently, so I have somewhat of a base to build from. Fitness- NF beginner body weight workout 3 times a week. I haven't done any sort of strength training in a while, so I want to get back into that. I'm a little concerned about the push ups, but I see this as an opportunity to grow! I can do about 4 good pushups right now. Diet- No french fries. This is a weakness of mine. I've cut wayyyyy back on fast food, but my friend group likes to go out to eat on the weekend. I think if I go 4 weeks without french fries, I will make healthier decisions when I go out to eat with my friends. Life- write down three good things every day in a journal. This could be things like "I had a productive day at work" or "I saw a dog today" or "baby hippos exist and that's great." This journey is about making a positive change in my life and focusing on positive things instead of negative.
