  1. No, that's totally true. The pizza and bagels are a good business move, really. Keep your clients happy and keep them fat so that they keep coming back. I actually don't go there nearly enough to justify the 20 bucks a month. I just run outdoors and do most of my strength training at home with body weight and kettle bells. Just want to get a bit more fitness in then I'll shell out the 40-50 a month for a real gym.
  2. And you're awesome on the basis of your name alone - kettlebells rule.
  3. Yeah, he says pretty early in the book that his prescription is simple - Avoid sugar and avoid grains. And you're right - if you don't like Vinnie, you won't like the book.
  4. My impression is that he's not so much against paleo as the dogma and the "paleo is the best and only way to be healthy EVAR" attitude.
  5. I'm about to start paying twice what I pay at Planet Fitness so I can go to a gym with squat racks and do deadlifts.
  6. My kids do that occasionally it doesn't really bother me or my wife so we don't react. They always go back to calling us mom and dad.
  7. Accidental double-post. Please ignore
  8. Nothing at all wrong with easing into it at your own pace. In fact... This is a possibility, and there's nothing wrong with that. I was hardcore Paleo and got sick of the dogmatic BS. These days, I avoid sugars and processed food, severely limit grains, don't eat much legumes, and will fight you to the death for cheese or heavy cream. Find what works for you.
  9. I started at 6' even, 280 pounds. There's no magic pill, dude. You just have to reach the point that spending any more time getting bigger is unacceptable. Like everyone else says, diet is 80-95% of the battle and you should get that figured out before worrying about exercise. Exercise is all about finding what you like. I fell in love with kettlebells, you'll have your own preference. It doesn't really matter, as long as you enjoy it.
  10. Totally agree. If you can manage to cut out processed foods, you'll be doing yourself a ton of good. The rest may or may not do anything for you, anyway.
  11. I've also learned that failing is far from the worst thing that can happen to you. And, if you can get past fear of failure, you'd be amazed at how much you can succeed.
  12. Seconded X 10000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000
  13. 1. Bacon 2. Coffee 3. Fridays.
  14. Welcome to the party and congratulations on getting the nicotine monkey off your back!
  15. No matter what you do, no matter if you succeed or fail, people are going to judge you. So you might as well go for it.
  16. I've had a lot of people assume that I'm gay because I have effeminate characteristics, never really tried to pick up girls, and - apparently most of all - had no problem with people thinking I was gay.
  17. Damnit, now I want to start playing WoW again.
  18. I'm almost done with "Old Man's War" by John Scalzi and "Kettlebell: Simple and Sinister" by Pavel Tsatsouline
  19. I know, I'm just being a smartass instead of saying that I don't think protein powders are really worth the trouble or expense.
  20. I've actually found that eating quality food means I don't really need condiments anymore. A little salt and pepper and I'm golden.
  21. Is there any chance he meant to say pushups? At least then he'd be sort of right.
