  1. Do you eat them for their fiber and fat? Or other reasons, too?
  2. I LOVE TEMPEH. I would say that particular recipe calls for the tempeh to be eaten raw. If you don't like that flavor, you can microwave it for a few seconds to add moisture (put the plate in the microwave, put a puddle of water on the plate, place the tempeh in the puddle. Nuke for about 30 sec.) You can also panfry, which is super delicious. One of my favorite tempeh recipes right now is Orange Tempeh.
  3. Good morning! Yesterday I did the 4x100 sprints (whew!), then finished up with a 2 mile tempo run. I tried to maintain a 9:00 pace, which is about 45 seconds slower than my current mile PR. It feels really good to be running again, but I'm trying to be neurotically safe about hydration. Fortunately, Pittsburgh's temperatures are due to drop over the next few days. I’ve been reading during my bus commute every day. I work in finance, but majored in English, and my failure to read regularly has been wearing on me emotionally. Plus, my city has an awesome public library system, so there’s really no excuse. My book, Pastoralia, is weird. I like it! The strength training has been going well. I really wish I had started years ago; it does wonders for my self-esteem. I’m really enjoying the challenge so far! It’s fun cheering everyone and I definitely feel more accountable to my training plan. Have an awesome day
  4. Coffee is such a bugger! I’m also trying to drop it. I’ve been adding almond milk to mine, gradually adding more milk and less coffee. I’d like to get to a 50/50 ratio – lotsa calcium this way, too. I like the idea of making a schedule of rooms to clean. I made a list of every chore that needs to be done (scrub counters, scrub toilet, clean mirrors, etc) and I stuck it to the fridge. Every day, after dinner, I tell myself that I have to do a few things before dessert. My apartment gets a little cleaner and I get some time to digest my dinner. ps – I voted for you!
  5. Nice, clean day of eating! It's hard for me to stop at just 1 square of chocolate...
  6. You're doing so well! It's great that you and your wife are able to support each other in healthy pursuits.
  7. Good call on the safe. I've read that you should also keep a little cash in there - if disaster strikes, you can't be looking for an ATM!
  8. Cranked 'em out before my tempo run yesterday. The heat was rough, but also meant that I had the track to myself
  9. Hello! Yes, my employer matches my retirement contributions 100% and I always do the max. Best of all, they'll match me 150% after I vest. Hooray for free money! I've been researching mutual funds and certificate of deposits. I've found the blog GetRichSlowly to be informative. Plus, I like his principles of frugality and intentional spending. Thanks! I really like the website GoodReads for book recommendations.
  10. Awesome weekend To Do list! I find that it helps me to write it all in once place like that. Don't forget your sunscreen
  11. WOW! You have had an epic past few days! I'm glad to hear that things are going well
  12. I'm glad you cut the run short. In this heat, it probably would've done more harm than good. Safety first!
  13. Had to Google "water ice." That must be an East Coast thing. We Pittsburghers have "Italian Ice." I've heard that static hangs can help with grip strength. At the end of your pullups, maybe just try hanging there for awhile? Either way, 11 is a lot!
  14. How's the 1 mile mountain training going? We're excited to hear about it!
  15. For anyone curious, here's a nice summary of SL without the obnoxious pretense.
  16. Hi Josh! I hope this is going well for you and I hope you're staying cool in this crazy heat. Drink lotsa water!
  17. Yes, this! Especially spinach! Other than the color, you'd never know it's there.
  18. I hope your fundraising is going well! Last year, I did fundraising for a local humane society. I had a little bake sale organized on Facebook where friends could order baked sweets at a reasonable markup, knowing it was going towards the pups.
  19. Awesome goals! I also hope to kick soda. I've been drinking lots of seltzer (for the bubbles) and green tea (for the caffeine). I think your goal to take your lady on a date is very sweet. Maybe you can do something active together - like a leisurely bike ride or evening stroll
  20. Good luck with all of your goals! It sounds like you'll definitely "nail" the ceiling installation Swimming in open water is loosely on a To Do list myself. From what I've read, it's very different from pool swimming. Do you have a lake or river where you can practice?
  21. Please share the recipe! Loooove frozen yogurt. I like to pack my own healthy-ish toppings in my purse
  22. That sounds like a great motivator! $5 = lunch
  23. Good morning, all! Some updates: I've done two strength-training sessions. I timed my mile and am hoping to shave off 77 seconds over the next six weeks. No soda, only seltzer. About halfway through my first book, Pastoralia. Started a Pinterest board of articles about investments for newbies. Subscribed to a few personal finance blogs and spent a couple hours digging through their archives. Figured out how much we need for an emergency fund and am beginning to draft a monthly budget of expenses. Happy Thursday, Scouts! One more day until the weekend
