  3. I learned Spanish as my second language. The 1 major thing that helped me learn it, is having actual discussions in the language. Even if you don't know the words say as much as you can, then go back and learn the words or phrases you didn't know. Go back and have the same discussion again. rinse and repeat. Watch movies and kid shows. I agree Pan's labyrinth and Innocent Voices are awesome. For shows El Chavo del Ocho is so freaking funny!
  4. I went 9 for 9 at my meet, I am so glad I'm finally done competing. I was a great bit of fun though. I'll now be chasing a 450 squat, a 300+ bench, and a 500 Deadlift!
  5. OK recap, got hella drunk in washington but had a blast and learned a lot for work. This weekend going to Sacramento California and doing my last meet for the year.
  6. Heading to Kent Washington this Wednesday for work, I'll be there till Saturday around 7pm. Anyone from the area? I already put it up in the Meet-ups section but I figure I'll put it here to. I would love to lift/chill with another nerd.
  7. I lived in delegation: Meyehualco/Iztapala (Iztapalacra jaja) for like a year, then moved around to Iztacalco area, and spent some time in Mexico state. what delegation are you living in?
  8. wops posted this in the wrong area.... Hey I'll be in Kent Washington for a conference so i should be free after 5pm ish. Anyone want to work out, hang out, get some food, show me something cool, get some drinks? I'm a lifter with a Powerlifting/Olympic/Strongman emphasis, also love to rock climb, yoga, and if I have to I'll do a crossfit work out. I'm not strict paleo or anything so I'd be down for anything from little Caesars pizza to spinach salad and grilled chicken breast. I'll drink anything from a bud light to a shot of Patron. umm what else... male 25 years old... a little beardy (growing it out for Movember)

  10. Back from the competition and here we go: Squat - 374 - 390* Bench - 273 Dead - 374 *technically I did squat 390 but moved too soon towards to rack before the rack command was given, so they couldn't count it. I will be most likely be using this max for my 5/3/1 programming.
  11. Leaving for San Luis Obispo in less than 2 hours for my next meet, so pumped!
  12. Its the Elitefts Strong(er) belt
  13. I just got a latching belt looks like 3"
  14. If you haven't yet check out this article about water on EFTS: http://articles.elitefts.com/training-articles/optimus-h20/ Got me thirsty just reading it.
  15. Going to work on my bench tonight, can't go too hard because I am suppose to be resting but shhhh.
  16. Start with something basic like Starting Strength by Mark Rippetoe, if you are into body weight you could give Convict Conditioning a try. Part of making good progress is keeping to a regime, use your stubbornness to see a program through for at least 3 months. Don't be self conscious, seriously you may feel like everyone is watching you, and maybe for the first few days they will notice you, but only because you will be a new face. Keep going and soon you will blend in. Eventually you will be noticing the newbies and realize that even if you are watching/being watched it really doesn't matter because you are there to train not to watch paint dry. You already have a 6 pack, it is just under a layer of fat tissue. Since you are a female making muscle gains comes very hard, so you must train hard to get your gains. Focus on making your entire body strong and the abs (with proper diet) will come or you still stop caring about them and want to become beastly strong. Flexibility isn't something you can rush, focus on the baby step you can make though. Its good to have a big goal for later on like, do the splits, but if you aren't close don't try and do it anytime soon. Just inch your way closer and closer each month. Handstand w/o wall = balance. Nice thing about this goal is you can do it any time and where. No need to rest for muscle repair or because you are too tired. You could set a goal to do X handstands through out the day, and maybe on saturdays your goal is to stay up for 3 seconds, then 5, then 10, then 30 etc etc.
  17. I did some deadlifts last night, worked on my approach. At my last competition I got red lighted because I re-adjusted my footing too late. So I basically did a few pulls doing it perfect each time. Deadlift - 8x1 @ 315# Powercleans - 2x6 @ 185# Mobility & Foam Roll
  18. Interesting factoid, proper bar loading procedure is the first plates should have their weight numbers facing inward and all other plates should be facing outwards. Load and deload the bar evenly, 45 on one side then 45 on the other etc.
  19. Happy McQuanzaka, that's all you get. Now go eat some protein!
  20. At your last meet you had to modify your weight belt because it had some padding in the lumbar...and by modify we mean take a knife and cut it all out. That made you very sad didn't it. Well now that belt can be for your work sets or something like that, because you are the newest proud owner of a..... Oh yeah latch that baby down and move some heavy weight!
  21. In my opinion its a fine place for a beginner to start, learn the basics yada yads, But I wouldn't exactly trust his guides for strength gains if you are nearing intermediate or higher. I don't know about any others because strength/performance is my focus.
  22. Ok on to number two... Remember how you failed your last bench attempt because your wrist wraps weren't any good? well now you need not worry: These bad boys are so tight, it literally casts my wrists when worn correctly!
  23. Interesting note of information, that you'll never need to know. There is a steroid for cows/livestock called Finiplex used often here and you can use some basic ingredients and make it into a human safe version of Trenbolnone (Tren) a great steroid used for both bulking and cutting. I'm not sure if this is coincidental or intentional in naming the protein bar.
