  1. I've done the silence thing several times this week-it helps me to re-focus and get back on track. I simply sit on my front porch and listen to the birds and the squirrels. I can pretty much tell where they are from the direction the sounds come from. Not too much traffic on this street, so for the most part its all nature noises...
  2. welcome! I went thru about the same thing-only with me, it was a knee injury that sidelined me for 6 mos. Took forever to rehab back to where I could start training again-just can't run any more. Wrecked the other knee about 4 yrs ago, but because I was in better shape (just finished a world ranked karate tournament) I rehabbed in about 4 weeks. Keep up the awesome work- you are doing more than 'alright'
  3. I live on an Island in So Ga...anybody near/in Brunswick or Glynco area?
  4. Practically all my equipment is home made-I learned from my martial arts instructor. At my house, I have a 6' landscaping timber and an assortment of cinder blocks and bricks-with a shorter landscape timber (~3ft) I can make a dumbbell. I also have a homemade kick/punching bag made from an old army duffelbag, old clothes and rope hanging in my car port. They aren't pretty, but they work and the best thing was they're free. Can also use milk jugs filled with H2O or sand for kettlebells...works pretty good.
  5. wow. I'm actually the FIRST POST??? 1st time ever, anywhere! Okay-'moment' over I need a training partner/sidekick/butt kicker to help me finish getting in shape! My qualifications: must be able to improvise equipment out of random pieces of stuff as I currently am flat broke and can't afford either equipment or gym membership. I DO have a balance ball, one resistance band that I got free from Women's Fitness, I have a punching bag and a Makai ( and yes- i know the spelling is off) board (I'm into martial arts big time). I live in Southeast Georgia on the Coast-specifically St Simons Island single-dog owner-no kids-don't care if you do
  6. I'm working on a couple blogs right now- one is sixpackabsv and the other is called createahealthyhabit. We're getting ready to jump into a couple more as well. As far as sticking to something once I start-I made a rule a long time ago that if I didn't love what I was doing, there was no point in doing it. Because of that, I find stuff to do-work sport-etc-that I love and it makes it easy to stick to. It takes practice tho- when I was in college I bounced around so much I ended up graduating with over 170 credit hours! Trust me-there are things I still bounce around on-but for the most part, that's a concentration thing more than anything else.
  7. I'm another newbie here, but I'm not new to the quest for fitness. In fact I write about fitness, exercise, and diet just about every day. It's time for me to get myself back in shape instead of just writing about it-I have the tools (for the most part), but what I need is a serious ass kicking to keep going. My old workout partner/trainer left town and I'm on my own. I am a Martial Artist with a black belt in one style of karate, and a brown belt in kenpo-I'm an instructor for both. I've also studied Tai-Chi with several different people and I've added some to my kenpo katas as well. I was a world ranked professional athlete in 2006, but the cumulative effect of two knee surgeries, and years of training have left me strong and completely not fit. MY GOALS I gained a ginormous amount of weight after my last knee injury and I need to lose it. I'm trying to stick to 1200 cal/day and good protein and veggies, but when the cravings monster hits it's usually Fritos and sugar. While technically not binging, as long as its in the house, I eat it. However, once its gone, its gone- I don't go on junk food runs or anything like it, nor do I do it all of the time, just once every couple of months. Fitness Experience: Know a bunch about it-just don't practice a lot of what I preach due to 'no time' (I work probably 12 hrs/day 7 days per week on my blogs and my boss gives me no real options about it as I'm also his VA. I'm looking for friends and supporters and a way to kick my own butt KatC
