  1. @Koaladle I love that! Yeah, phrasing can be so powerful- and especially with my goal being carving out time for myself, any way I can remind myself that this is a commitment and even a gift as opposed to a responsibility sounds useful to me. I'll definitely give that a shot! So, hey- I have made a commitment to workout today! :-)
  2. Hey everyone! :-) I'm Froggy- I've been signed up for Nerd Fitness Academy for about six weeks now and the first month went great! I've slid off my goals a bit the last two weeks with overtime at work and holidays, but I'm ready to get back on the horse. A la how to restart, I've been assessing how things went wrong the first time and I think some form of community this time around would be a great help! My overarching goal with fitness/health is to carve out some time and space for myself, outside of work and relationships. I want to have my body be a symbol of being there for myself, and being both physically and emotionally strong and self-supportive. My SMART goals are essentially repeats/extensions of what I did the first month- I'm specifically trying to go with small steps, and I think getting back on the horse/getting some momentum is a good plan. I may reassess at the halfway mark if I want to amp up any of these goals a little bit. 1. No sweet drinks. I live three blocks from a Starbucks and used to get sweet drinks once or twice a day! I did weekends only my first few weeks, moving down to no sweet drinks, and that alone has made a huge difference in my skin and mood. Hooray! So I'm getting right back on that. My alternatives are tea and sparkling water, and I'm still allowed to have non-liquid sweets. I don't drink alcohol, so no worries about temptations there. 2. At least one serving of veggies every single day! This one is pretty easy, but it just keeps me focused on getting veggies in. I did this for a full month, and for the most part have kept it up, but haven't been as mindful about it so I may have missed some days. 3. Working out twice per week! Working out is by far the hardest habit for me to integrate. My first four weeks, I worked out six or seven times- I'm not in the habit of it and it's been hard to make a priority. This time around, I'm setting specific days (Tues/Sat) and coordinating that with my boyfriend- previously, it was tough to stick to it if, say, he suggested hanging out with friends on a day I was going to work out (we live together). So, for both of us now, Tues/Sat are workout days, and we plan to go on walks every day in addition to that. I already walk quite a bit, so that should be easy. Ideas for adding on, should I want to amp up the challenge: Working out 3x a week, getting a minimum of two servings of veggies per day, and limiting sweets. I also want to add a different fourth goal, since I think these three will be fairly easy to get back into the swing of - I struggle with dermatillomania (skin picking) and recently heard of a technique that can be useful for those with OCD and tourette's- seeing if you can just delay the urge for just thirty seconds. I think this is a really great place to start for me, even if to just add mindfulness. My first goal is just to accomplish that ten times in a row- noticing, stopping, and waiting thirty seconds, ten times in a row. It's ok if I interrupt right after starting, but only if I delay before causing any damage to my skin (anything beyond touching). I think that's all, for starters, with today being the first day! I plan to work out this afternoon as a one-time replacement for Saturday, just to get things started with some good momentum. Thanks and excited to be questing with y'all! :-)
