  1. I just found out about this thread and I like what I'm reading so far. Everyone's personal stories are a real inspiration. I have two stories to share, so it's a two-fer. Be me 10 years ago in college. Notice cute girl in class one day. Be too afraid to confess crush on her. Wait a whole year. Randomly meet her on campus again. Finally muster courage to tell her. Find out she's a married woman. Feel like utter garbage. Days later...never regret going berserker in spite of the cowardice. 2nd story is more recent. In September 2017 I decided I wanted to become certified by the NSCA as a strength and conditioning specialist. I studied for 6 months. I entered the computer lab at the testing facility very anxious and my heart was thumping in my chest because I was nervous I would fail. I didn't get my certification that day. It felt like getting punched in the stomach. But yesterday....I did pass because I wasn't afraid. I dusted myself off and stared that exam dead in the eyes. Never give up.
  2. August 13th, 2018 3.50 miles (5.632 km) August 15th, 2018 4.00 miles (6.437) All miles were walked. And I was wrong about that nagging pain in my right leg being "just a bruise of my soleus". My best guess is a shin splint because it's been going on for almost 2 weeks. Shin splints are very small tears of the muscle/bone tissue located near the inside of the lower leg. If not...then it's sprained, one or the other. Fun Fact: In the beginning of the Red, Blue, and Yellow versions, interacting with the TV inside of the main characters home gives you this text: " There's a movie on TV. Four boys are walking on railroad tracks. I better go too!" This is a reference to a scene from the popular movie "Stand by me" from 1986. The movie was an enormous hit in Japan and special editions were released to help Japanese viewers learn English as well. I had always wondered for years when I was a kid what it was referencing to. https://legendsoflocalization.com/qa-does-japanese-pokemon-reference-stand-by-me/
  3. Thank you for the encouragement, and that is pretty good but can you believe I have friend from Canada that recently ran a 21k in under 2 hours?
  4. Awesome project going on with the boxes and yea, plyometric exercises are harder then they look. Adorable rabbit (I wonder what he would've tasted like for dinner). I usually spot the occasional vulture in the sky or old snakeskin lying in the dead grass when I'm running outside.
  5. August 10th, 2018 6.50 miles (10.461 km) Ran: 4.50 miles Walked: 2.00 miles Until further notice there will be no more running or jogging. My left leg achilles tendonitis isn't feeling better today and I hurt my inner, right soleus muscle earlier this week (it feels like a bruise so it should heal relatively quickly). The good news is I made it to Stage 5 (Mt. Moon), but moving forward all I will do is put ice packs on my leg and stick to slow walks.
  6. Well...suffice to say this was one of the shortest and easiest stages of my challenge thus far. Stage 4 is going to last only 4 days (Aug. 7th - 10th). August 8th, 2018 3.850 miles (6.195 km) August 9th, 2018 5.00 miles (8.046 km) Every mile was walked. Great news!! When I began this challenge on May 1st I could only run 2.189 miles (3.52 km) at a pace of 5.5 mph on the treadmill before I needed to stop and catch my breath. As of early August, I'm now proud to say I can run at 5.5 mph on the treadmill for more than 3.60 miles (5.79 km). The most amazing part was that I wasn't exhausted enough to slow down at the 3.60 mile mark, I just decided to stop running. It's definitely progress.
  7. Beautiful scenery, and I don't know what those dishes taste like but I'm glad you enjoyed them. You're like the foreign cuisine expert of the forum.
  8. Congratulations on the 2 years of sobriety! I totally missed your new thread here at first but I got here just in time. It's always important to find someone else that has gone through what you and I go through because we can't always get out of our own ruts all by ourselves so good job in getting back on track and getting healthier. God puts the people we need in our path exactly when we need them. I can't believe you're already in the 160-post range on the forum. You'll hit 1,000 in no time.
  9. I made it to Pewter City!! Goodbye to Viridian Forest for good. At the time of this post I currently stand at 182.742 miles. Stage 4 has begun. August 3rd, 2018 5.00 miles (8.046 km) August 6th, 2018 7.20 miles (11.587 km) August 7th, 2018 7.82 miles (12.585 km) 6.90 miles (11.104 km) of the total distance I covered on August 6th - 7th were ran. The other miles were walked. ^ This is the distance I covered. The Chichibu / Tama National Park Office corresponds to the entrance of Viridian Forest in the game. Maebashi City is located right on the doorstep of three large mountainous regions, one of them being Mount Akagi (Mt. Moon in the game). The trip from Pewter City to Mount Moon is an incredibly short one (only 12 miles), so this will be my easiest stage thus far. Fun Fact: The name "Pewter" is actually a type of malleable metal alloy. An alloy is a combination of two metals or a metal combined with another element. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pewter
  10. Keep up the good work. And impressive barbell rowing for you (at least to me). The most I can row is 70-75.
  11. Caesar salad with the chicken looks extremely tasty! Great job on the exercise too, you've got the motivation to exercise twice in one day!
  12. @Tobbe Thanks Tobbe! I'm following your thread too! You've got a good thing going on with yours. Posting so many pictures makes it one of the most unique threads on the forum. @Amazon Ninja Thank you for your support! It's like my brain started thinking "It's time we started running more outdoors" and my feet said "Not if we have anything to say about it..."
  13. You know, that sounds like a fantastic idea. You just gave me another idea. What about this: Roll up a ball of peanut butter in a mix of granola, oats, or crushed corn flakes (whatever you're into). Dip the whole thing in yogurt as if it were a candy apple and freeze it.
  14. August 1st, 2018 4.75 miles (7.644 km) 17.095 miles (27.511 km) until I reach Stage 4. Walked: 3.70 miles Ran: 1.05 miles My Achilles flared up when I first started jogging today (which was after the 2nd mile) but went away after approximately 0.033 miles in. It's getting better I'm glad to say but I'm still taking it easy.
  15. July 31st, 2018 4.25 miles (6.839 km) All walked. The last day of July was spent walking on the treadmill at home. I didn't want to risk more aggravation to my left Achilles. It hasn't bothered me at all for the whole day but I was just being safe.
  16. I say rest is the best option + slow, easy walking. Not re-aggravating it. Thank you for the positive words!
  17. baked potato, French fries, or potato chips maybe.
  18. July 19th, 2018 - July 30th, 2018 23.96 miles (38.559 km) 26.095 miles (41.995 km) until I reach Stage 4. Calories: N/A Walked / Ran: N/A I have no excuses to give for not reporting for almost two weeks, but looking back on my time away from my thread, I've spent a lot of time running. And I'm getting better! When I first started my challenge I had one hell of a time jogging more than 0.50 miles outdoors, it was incredibly difficult for me to do. I've been running outdoors these past few weeks in blistering heat, like I said, and I'm proud to say I can jog outdoors without stopping for a max of 1.86 miles (3 kilometers) now! I'm averaging 6:30 - 7:00 per km. More good news: According to my Nike running app that I use while running, I finished my 5k jog outdoors in more or less 34 minutes. When I first started my personal challenge (on May 1st) my best 5k time on the treadmill in an air conditioned environment was 36 minutes 5 seconds. This is how far I've come and I'm not stopping! The bad news: All the running I've been doing has giving me a nasty burning sensation on my left Achilles tendon these past couple of days. It's been on highly uneven terrain, so this doesn't come as a surprise but I'm still disappointed. Thanks to ReturnOfTheDad for getting me hooked on the band "Atlas" in one of his posts. I love some of their tracks.
  19. I'm liking the thread; concise and to the point for the most part. I'm following to see how much you can keep progressing.
  20. Playing the butt trumpet towards everyone you perceive to be a threat. Unless your breath smells worse of course.
  21. You're already getting 3 miles in! Great! I love the selections for the motivational songs too. I've never heard Shakedown before but it's a good one.
  22. Wow! That's impressive. 12 miles is not a walk in the park! If you have the right motivation behind you then you can burst through walls.
