  1. Well, Hurricane Dorian was a time.

I'm lucky I was at the northernmost stop on his list.  High winds, lots of rain but miraculously did not lose power, so the sump pumps kept the water out of the basement.

Took the pooch on an extra long (3-ish km) hike to assess property damage.  Pleasantly surprised to find very little downed trees.  I guess the last hurricane took care of all them.

  2. Summer sucked supremely.  Need a hardcore respawn.  Got to the gyn for the first time since early June.

    4x6 KB press at 16kg

4x8 lat pull down at 100#

    1.5km hike with the dog.

I have zero focus or drive fitness-wise apart from "general health".  Right now if I show up and get something done I am calling it a win.

How do you manage your diabetes? Medication or mainly diet?
I have insulin resistance and I find that the sugars can make me really tired, but also that sometimes I crave sugars so badly that I feel sick. Metformin and inositol help me manage, but I needed constant adjustments expecially at the beginning.
Have you seen your doctor recently?
Walking seems to be the best thing for managing sugars levels!

I'm on metformin and lifestyle changes, I've been working with my doc since diagnosis a year ago.  Healthcare in Canada is great and all that yadda yadda yadda, but it feels excruciatingly slow when you gotta wait 3 months between medication adjustments to see how things are going.  Metformin alone doesn't seem to be doing much.  I just had a round of bloodwork a few days ago so we'll see.

  4. Hoo boy it's been a rough few months.  Don't even know where to begin.  Type 2 diabetes is a pain in the ass to manage when there is little consistency in your life (work schedule-wise, nonexistant family-wise, sleep-wise, etc).  Been so exhausted lately that I feel like I've been settled in quicksand and am struggling to get out.  Even little things like trying to keep my personal space tidy is challenging.

Fitness-wise I've completely crashed and burned.  Little beyond walking the dog since May.  Went to the gym today but stomach issued prevented me from doing much.  We'll see how tomorrow goes, I guess.

Sick and tired of being sick and tired.  Today was a grind.

In cheerier news, spring is always late in my area but it's in full swing today.

Spring peppers were in full chorus early this morning.

I watched the resident fox play with some barn swallows (there is a surplus of groundhogs, rabbits, muskrat and other rodents in the area so he wasn't bird hunting)
Big fat ol' bumblebees buzzing around looking for flowers.

Majestic eagles soaring in the sky.

Groundhogs screaming at everything that moves by them.

Trees are starting to bud finally.

Farmers are spreading manure on everything so the dog is happy.

How is your hand doing?  Are you back to 100% yet?

It's still a piece of shit in the context that I drop a lot of things unintentionally.  But it's not causing me pain or numbness any more and the scar tissue has broken up to the point where I hardly notice it any more.

Grip heavy training isn't an issue any more. Tomorrow I should hit farmer's walks with 100#/hand.

    Thanks for asking.

Eating a bit more, including a few pieces of fruit half hour prior, and taking longer rest between sets seems to have helped today.  I capped it where I did because tomorrow is the "wonderful" inventory day and it's going to be a long one.

My sugars only went from 8.4 mmol/L to 7.5, so nothing major or dangerous there.

    Guess I'm just under-eating beforehand.

  10. I don't have the time or patience to use public gyms.  Don't like waiting for equipment.  It was more economical for me to build a garage gym that I use 4 times a week rather than pay membership fees for something that I probably would not attend.

Did what I could yesterday.  I'm giving a lower carb diet (125-150 g) a try for the next 4 weeks to see if the diabeetus reacts favourably to it or not.

  14. With the help of some friends and only a minor disfiguring injury, I have my gym floor 100% covered in stall mats.  AND even though it's kinda cramped, I gots me a dedicated lane for (short) yoke walks and farmer's carries.  Considering how disgustingly humid and rainy it is, at least I'll be able to use the damn yoke now.  Also installed a dehumidifier, since the other day the ENTIRE INTERIOR was wet with condensation.

Training day tomorrow.  Yay.  Just need to sweep up now...

Still frikin' sore from earlier.  Humidity is at 100%, everything in the gym is damp.  Friggin' gross.  Took the dog for a long walk instead of finishing the day.
