Ugh, might have overdone the leg work again. Will I ever learn? At least this time the ache is localised to the meaty bit of thigh above my knees and not the whole leg! Perhaps for a while I should skip the squats and lunges and focus more on pushups and planks.

Everything else is still on track. I even managed to coat those apricot balls in white chocolate without doing any taste-testing!

Hope you get to feeling better soon! I've got pain in my neck and right shoulder myself. I have no idea how I somehow overwork an area like that but I hate it takes days to get better again. It will though.. hang in there. ;)

    Continue to be awesome!! :D

  2. I STILL haven't managed to get Charity Miles to work on my iPhone BUT MapMyWalk worked great. I'm so bummed Charity Miles didn't work out, I really wanted to help someone else while I was also helping myself. Anyway, I walked 2.31 miles, could be better of course but for a middle aged out of shape fat lady that's not too bad. Also when I got home the scale has gone down a bit more. I think maybe I'll make that a task for my next 4 week challenge, to chart my weight and figure out my average. Sooo this is a little embarassing BUT...

When I started I weighed 226.5 and now I weigh 224.5. Keep in mind I haven't yet changed my diet. I won't lie ya'll, normally I'm healthy, but I've had cookies recently.. like.. a lot. ;) So I'm a big girl, I know, but I'm working hard every single day and it's starting to show. I'm even thinking of making diet changes for my next challenge. Not low carb though. Eff that noise. Maybe I'll cut down on sugar and salt and fat. I might have a cake first. Definitely. :D

Thanks for the chili recipe! I'm intrigued by the lentils in it, I haven't tried it before but that sounds interesting

Lentils are awesome! They are super cheap and very healthy. I always get ours in bulk from the Indian market (same for rice.) You can get them at Walmart or Kroger but you'll pay a lot more. I usually make soup or curry with them. Pinterest has soooo many recipes for them is ridiculous.. ;)

    Small Update!

The extreme hunger has subsided! I WAS super hungry but now it's not as bad.

Also, forgive me if I've mentioned this, but upper arms look smoother. I had these diagonal chub lines which seem to have gone or at least greatly diminished. No joke, my waist and arms look different. Still super chubby but smoother. ;)

Today will be my 19th straight day in a row working out. After my coffee... :D

Also.....how do you like the Magicians? Have you read the books at all? I'm so excited for the new season but haven't got around to torrenting it :P

I LOVE it except the costumes in season two are very MEH, I'm assuming they're on a tight budget. I love the story and the actors are wonderful! Not to sound prudish but I also don't half wish everyone would stopped boning each other. Seriously.. I'm sold .. I don't need more smoochin' to get hooked. ;)

I haven't read the books! I really should though, I know. I struggle to make time to read. I normally resort to audio books.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE Ready Player One as read by Wil Wheaton. <3 Though they changed one two many things in the movie, I think. We'll see though.. maybe it'll be good. I use the audiobook for my long walks and it really helps. Highly recommend!

I'm just a Mom cook, nothing fancy, but I have some decent things in rotation. Chili recipes have always let me down but after much experimenting this is a success. Made this just the other day and it was so so good! Sorry for the guesstimations here but I don't usually measure. :D

    Shy's Vegan Chili

    5 cups veg stock
1 small can tomato paste  You can leave this in but in hindsight I think it would be better without. It cuts the spice but it makes it rich. Up to you! ;)
    1/2 or so onion
1/2 a stalk of celery or so
    1-ish tsp garlic
    1 cup whole brown lentils
    2 cans chili beans
    1 can petite chopped tomatoes
1 packet McCormick mild chili mix

Cooked in the slow cooker for six hours.

You're welcome! ^_^ I plan on giving the Rich Bitch sausages a go this weekend. I loooooove hot dogs (gross, I know :P) and I have a whole jar of sauerkraut just waiting for me to open it.

The hubs and I LOVE sauerkraut, I'd say more than the actually hotdogs. I have yet to have vegan hotdogs I really liked AND that didn't give me horrendous heartburn. If the recipe works out please let me know!! :D

Hi, Shy! Apparently this group isn't exactly teeming with people. But I'm here! I'm "just" WFPB (I've been warned on multiple vegan sites that I can't call myself vegan, because I'm "only" focusing on removing animal products from diet at this point), but I'm happy to share recipes with you as I learn them.

I've never made seitan, but I recently bought some vital wheat gluten to give it a try. Looking at Pinterest, I found some that might interest you as well:

I was recently vegan for more than two years but we've added eggs back to our diet. I haven't told anyone on my facebook yet, I'm terrified of the potential and almost certain backlash. :(

I LOVE The Edgy Veg! Her hollandaise sauce was soooo good! Her vegan turkey wasn't as tender as other recipes I've tried. I think the one I did for Thanksgiving was from The Gentle Chef, I hear his cookbooks are really really good. I hadn't heard of rich bitch though, I'll have to check it out! Thanks so much!!! <3

Just like it says over there ^^^, it's the truth

I  recently wrote a bit about this, maybe you should check it out...

Actually that whole page has very interesting things about weight working out and other stuff, check it out!

(Sorry if I sound defensive but I've never described my diet other than dairy free vegetarian.)

    A note about my diet:

I'm pretty good about eating right %90 of the time. (Plain oatmeal with chia or cheerios and soy milk for breakfast, leftovers or brown rice and peas/spinach for lunch, ramen with tofu and broccoli for dinner or maybe black bean sandwiches or vegan meatballs and pasta with spaghetti sauce, etc. For dinner tonight I'm thinking about making lentil chili and cornbread.) I'm tightly constrained by budget which I manage to feed our small family but with little wiggle room. I'm seriously thinking about just cutting out sugar. Most of my daily sugar is one TB of sugar in my morning coffee so it wouldn't be a BIG change but I'm sure it doesn't help. I don't drink soda and we RARELY ever have dessert so there's a positive.

I'm focusing, for this challenge, mainly on just getting into the habit of exercising. I'm tired of making excuses for myself and then never getting around to it. So I'm happy about, possibly, losing weight but for now exercise is my focus. I'm sure I'll have weight fluctuations, which is normal but hell I'm just looking on the bright side. Any reason to feel good about myself. ;) I need to loose weight, big time, but without exercise it's not gonna work. Time to break the pattern. That being said, when  can find a minute I'll check out that thread. Thanks so much for the info!!

Now I'm late for my workout which i'm totally excited for since my newest show choice for my cardio is Magicians on Netflix. Love it! :D

  8. UPDATES!!!!!

First off, I'm so proud of myself for updating everyday!!  (She says with a sink full of dirty dishes in the kitchen and a cluttered coffee table in the living room.) :D

Second, I LOST A POUND!!! Which is most likely my scale going on the fritz but... I'll take it. ;)

Thirdly, the hubs says my waist is getting slimmer. He's probably lying but.. I'll take it! :D

I haven't changed my diet, in fact I just order groceries and there are definitely some naughty nom-noms in there. Maybe I'll consider cutting something out next challenge. I've worked out every single day, though recently I only did 20 solid minutes of stretching but I pushed myself as much as possible. (I was suffering from really bad DOMS.) Today, as per usual, I stretched for 5, did cardio and some VERY light lifting for 15, and stretched again for another 5. Frankenankle is sore but still workin'! YES! Oh and I'm now on DECAF!! Yay me!! Annnddddd I've been on not one but TWO walks.. OUTSIDE, where the people are! And I lived!! Woohoo!

Super proud of moi! Okay.. back to being all lurky and shy now. :D

  9. I did a five minute stretch, a five minute warm up, and because my neck/shoulder/back area is pretty sore I thought I'd go for a walk. It's 19 degrees out not including wind chill. I'm an idiot.

Anyway I only walked 20 minutes before I realized, once AGAIN, Charity Miles isn't recording my miles. WTF?? This is SO annoying. I checked my settings and everything should be working. I wrote their tech support. Oi.

On the upside this is the 13th day, in a row, I exercised! Yay me! :D

Shy, when I first started working out I had The Hunger too :D It actually stopped within a few weeks - I think it's just a matter of the body adapting. One thing I realised with time is that certain types of exercise make me way hungrier than others, even if they supposedly use similar calories. Maybe you'll notice the same thing as you go.

I wonder if you've heard of the Fitness Blender website? I would recommend taking a look - they have hundreds of workout videos at different levels, including stretching, bodyweight and light cardio sessions, demonstrated by normal non-peppy people with no music. They show a preview before each new move, so you could turn the sound off if you didn't want the chat.

    Good luck to you!

That's reassuring! Hopefully it'll ease up. I'm not used to battling hunger. I normally don't get very hungry.

Also, I haven't heard of Fitness Blender but I'll check it out. Thanks!

  11. I went for a long walk today. I was a bit annoyed though because Charity Miles didn't track my distance so I got no credit. Dang it. We had change setting to ALWAYS allow it to track me rather than when just the program is running. I didn't notice until I'd already been walking 25 minutes. I walked 45+ total, so that's good at least.

My charity is Saint Judes. Anyone else use this app? What's your charity?

    Hi Shy,

Finding something you like is important and helps you stick to it. I've tried to just do what I want when I go to the gym. Looking at my log, I've been doing the same thing for a few weeks now. I find if I feel like I need to do something, I get stressed if I can't do it, so I usually have a few exercises in case machines or benches are being used. Don't beat yourself up if you miss a workout or it takes time to find what works for you.

I haven't posted this since I'm hesitant to say, in case I'm not able to, but I'm trying to actually exercise everyday for 100 days. I know it's trendy and a bit silly BUT I do count any attempt at exercise. Walking, floor exercises, prolonged stretch exercises, etc. So far this is day 11 for me. ;)

I'm old enough now not to beat myself up if I cant do it but if that's the case.. I can always start again. :D

  13. Even though it's the weekend I did my exercise for today and yesterday. Though today I only did a long stretch video. I tried Yoga but I just absolutely can not stand ".. feel the Gaia's energy move through your body...", "... tap into the energy of your forth shakra..." I despise that sort of thing and the constant talk of it to the point where I can't ignore it. I just want someone to show me how to stretch or exercise and guide me through it. Sorry for my Druid friend, I love you, but it's just not for me.

Sorry for all my bitchin'! Here's the stretch video I did today and I really enjoyed it. So it was a pretty light stretch I might go for a walk today to get some cardio...

I've noticed this with myself, too!! Have you found a good solution?? Whenever I go to the gym, I drive home going, "doNOTstopatBurgerKing...doNOTstopatBurgerKing". And seriously, I don't even eat fast food! Burger King hasn't even been in my vocabulary for like 10 years! So yeah. Gym = RAVENOUS....

Nope! When i find a clever workaround for hunger, which is normally not an issue for me, I'll let ya know! ;)

  15. BTW.. for my fellow shy nerds out there. If you let your shyness prevent you from doing things to help make yourself happier and/or healthier because you fear what others might think...

  16. I did my workout today. It's normal for your knees to crackle and pop... right?

I've decided Criminal Minds is just too annoying to watch during my workout. Dang. I know it's super popular but the writing is sloppy. So I've decided to do my workout to DS9. I was never a huge fan of the series. I always thought the actor who played Sisko wasn't very good and his style of speaking and acting seemed way too forced. I love Quark and Odo though. I swear the show should have been called "Quark's Bar" being they never really trekked anywhere. I REALLY wanted to watch Golden Girls but would you believe it's not on Netflix? WTF Netflix?? Seriously.. Golden Girls are awesome.

    Struggles...

Not feeling any stronger, I haven't lost a single pound, I'm hungry, and for some reason grumpy. I'm normally sweet but dang I'm snippy... maybe it's hormones. :(

    Accomplishments for the day...

Second day doing a full 20, including warm up and cool down. The caffeine headaches seem less painful and I'm putting half as much sugar in my coffee. I've really been pushing myself gradually more and more, very gradually. I can now do a 30 second wussy plank. Any progress is better than none. :)

I'm seriously thinking for my next 4 week challenge of cutting back on oil and sugar. Without changing my diet I won't lose weight.

@shy I'm loving your plan for working out in front of the TV! Have you checked out Darebee at all? Your plan resembles their Foundation programs so I'd say you're onto something good there :)

I haven't heard of it but I'll definitely look into it. Thanks!!

The "gym" I'm referring to up there is actually just the workout room here at our complex. lol I have yet to work up the nerve to walk past all the young, pretty, perfectly makeup-ed and well dressed staff in sweat pants, dripping with sweat, and panting like a small dog that's been left in the car in the middle of summer. I'm easily embarrassed so I don't know if I'll manage it anytime soon. If the cold weather would let up I'd like to go for a walk in the park.

  18. There have been lots of warning signs honestly.

Just recently I clicked some stupid clickbait article about celebrities and thought, "I have no idea who these children are."

In fact yesterday I was walking to pick up my daughter from school and I looked down. I see sensible memory foam shoes, light denim jeans, a khaki jacket, an umbrella (just in case), a sudoku book, and reading glasses. I'm not just old. I'm clearly an geriatric trapped inside a middle aged body.

Hi shy, pleased to meat ya! :tranquil: I also high anxiety, I get how scary going to a gym is. Proud of you exercising since the 3rd! That's amazing!! :adoration: keep up the most impressive work! I also wanted to say I think it's great you've already become a vegetarian. Eating healthy around your spawn is a great influence on her. Ta ta for now! P.S. what's your fave star trek episode?

Oh geez! Favorite episode? Hmmmm... I've seen every Star Trek, aside from some DS9 I've probably missed (not my favorite), so it's hard to say there's one episode above all others. I WILL say that the new ST: Discovery show just had the best episodes. Mostly because I'm hopping up and down and saying, "I knew it! I knew it!" soon followed by, "No no! What are you doing? He's going to... Noooooo!" lol Aside from the the Klingon makeup change I really love the new show.

Side note... Doug Jones is such a sweetheart! Multiple times he's given me and other fans a <3 for posts about him on Discovery. He reads what people say and pays attention. Plus he's just a super nice guy. I'm SO happy we get to have him on Discovery. :D

  20. Couldn't manage the inchworms. They were actually more of a strain on my ankles than I'd hoped. However I just subbed with knees up/reach ups and side punches. I think I did alright. My heart rate went up and I'm sweaty. Mission accomplished. :D

Criminal Minds isn't getting much better. lol Only third episode in though. ;)

  21. So I'm tired of having to skip certain exercises in a routine. Also I HATE trying one exercise video after another and finding many to be annoyingly cheezy and patronizing. "Come on ladies! You can DO IT! Work those buns!" Ughhhhhh....

So I'm going to come up with my own workout plan I can do while I watch a tv series on Netflix. Currently I'm trying out Criminal Minds but it's a bit dumb, sorry CM fans out there. It's just started so hopefully it'll get better. Maybe I'll rewatch some Trek. Anywho...

The Current Beginner Super Wussy Plan

    • 5 minute stretch
    • 10 minute cardio - march, side steps, squats,  inchworm,  knees up/reach, march, (floor) side to side, bicycle crunches, hip extensions, plank or pushups, march, side to side punches
    • 5 minute cool down stretch

No idea if this is at all correct but I'll try this out today and see how it feels. I also don't know what all the cardio moves are called, just had to guess.

    Progress:

I know I can do a proper pushup yet, I barely go halfway down. I'm very weak and I'm very heavy and that's a LOT of weight to push up and down. So I may just plank instead though I start shaking pretty quickly doing that also. Bummer. Lately my back is sore, it always is, but it's more bearable than usual. I need to strengthen my back so my daily back pain eventually starts letting up. My tummy isn't sore at all which makes me worry I'm not getting my stomach a good workout. Then again i wonder if my stomach may just be numb having had a cesarean. ???

I'm more hungry than normal and I'm falling asleep really early.

Also I was looking for exercise advice on youtube and.. well I doubt just watching this is exercise but I found myself entranced for some reason. :D
