  1. The elf is on her way! Done 1 set of beginners body weight exercises (split into 2 halves) and intend to do the other set to complete the exercise later in the week - who knows, I might even complete 1 1/2 this week! Now off to buy the apples
  2. Thanks for the encouragement king Julian. I'm sure you're right that most of the problem with my balance in lunges particularly is weak core - part of the reason I'm excited to be trying strength training ( even in very small doses to start)
  3. Sounds like you have a clear plan and should be encouraged by the progress made since February. Onwards!
  4. Afraid I can't call squats easy either - just less likely to fall over. Thanks for the encouragement though
  5. You should see him as a key ally - although he's not certain about why there are only 5 walks a week.......
  6. I'm sure Spencer will hold you accountable! Does he have a quest too?
  7. Success!( Even if a small one). During the course of the day did 20 lunges (in a narrow hallway with my fingertips on walls) without falling over. Thanks Eskcanta! At least the elf can set off on her journey throuh the forest on her challenge without immediately tripping over the tree roots!
  8. Which other (simple!) exercises improve the ability to do lunges - are there particular muscles that need to be stronger to hold balance in this position?
  9. Thanks Eskcanta - I'll try some of your suggestions. Hopefully my balance will improve as strength increases. Don't want to let the lunges defeat me though.
  10. I just find lunges so difficult. Have watched video to see how to do them, tried quickly, tried slowly - I still lose my balance every time. Determined to include them in my beginners workout challenge but wish I could find a way to do them without nearly falling over!
  11. Like the way you've clearly separated into battle plans! Go for three victories. Enjoy the walking at the weekend - even if not running yet, you have more time to take in the scenery
  12. Bet you'd get a spectacular view from climbing a 100 floors, even if you stop for a breather part way up! Good luck (ps you should post a picture from the top)
  13. I get the idea of not reading news site - addictive but do not necessarily give balance to life. Good luck with that one!
  14. Oops - meant save a £1 a day (£1 per week looks too small a goal even for me!
  15. Hi I've never joined a community before, but when I was roaming the internet vaguely looking for a way to get fitter, I came across nerdfitness and thought 'an adventure' I love hiking through North Yorkshire, but want to get to be a healthier more energetic and more positive version of me, so here I am on my first 4 week challenge It's ok to start small, you all say, so here goes - one beginners body weight work out a week - one less latte a week - one apple every other day - save £1 a week Let's see how my adventure unfolds
