okay, today, went to the gym. YAY.
did rookie workout A -- with some mods.
for the warm-up, i did 10 minutes with high resistance on the bouncy elliptical. i couldn't remember the form on some of the exercises i had written down.
for the squats, i did them with 7.5lb weights in each hand. I think next time i will up it to 10 in each hand.
instead of incline pushups, i did push ups on a bar set about knee height from the floor. those were tough. i can't wait until i can pull off a real push up.
i defeated the 20 second plank!!!
food today was hard. i didn't take in enough calories, or so says the daily burn. i'm only under by 100 or so.
breakfast: oatmeal, fat free yogurt
lunch: deli turkey, turkey pepperoni (half serving for some flavor) carrots and tzatziki
snack: kiwi
before gym: apple larabar
after gym: nectar protein "shake"
dinner: leftover chicken and vegetables in garlic sauce (no rice!)
after dinner: strawberries and a tablespoon of almond butter, three squares of dark chocolate
i felt like i was eating all day long. it's amazing how much you can eat, when you aren't eating crap. i know i need to get more veggies in - and that should help my calories. i think i also need a bigger breakfast, or maybe second breakfast? i do want to lose weight, but i don't want to eat too little.

"No, I'm just one of those guys who got his ass handed to him so bad in the gym right now, that he couldn't get his pants back on."
i just spewed water out of my nose. LOL.

did not make it to the gym today, but, did the rookie workout A at home.
breakfast: leftover vegetarian spinach dumplings (4) from last night (no added sauce, and they were steamed) + strawberries
coffee w/ skim milk and 2 pumps of toffee nut syrup from starbucks
no lunch
dinner: pork chop baked, natural no sugar added apple sauce, broccoli, sourkraut, and a few small red potatoes.
my calorie intake today is still low, so thinking of having an after dinner snack later.

WOOHOO. today feeling much better. ready to hit the gym tomorrow.
food breakdown for today -- still too few calories, and too many carbs, but i'm still figuring out what my stomach likes after being sick.
breakfast: banana
lunch: campbells chicken noodle soup. (HELLO SODIUM.. never eating this again.)
dinner: baby carrots with tzatziki dip, 2 hard cooked eggs, 2 cups strawberries

4. How do you have a good steak without a nice full-bodied red to go with it? I ask you!!
if you figure out how to do this, i will give you a bright shiny quarter. and a hug.

i've made cookies and breads (banana/pumpkin/zucchini) subbing applesauce or banana for all of the oil called for in a recipe. not sure if it'd work for cupcakes, so YMMV.

thanks all. i'm on the mend, feeling good today-- can't really eat much, but feel better. had a banana for breakfast and am drinking watered down gatorade. going to go for some chicken soup for lunch. thanks for your helpful posts!

these look like so much fun. i'm going to choose one and make a goal!

I have the same issue at work, but it's usually around 3pm. I haven't found the be-all-end-all solution, but i make sure at the beginning of the week that i have healthy snacks at work that i bring from home. yogurt, nuts, fruit, carrots and taziki dip and plain microwave popcorn. (kind of hard to find without the butter on it.) this way, when the craving for powdered donuts from the vending machine hits, i have other things i can look to.

just downloaded it. anyone know how it works if you don't run outside? Treadmill for example?

while trying to refine my diet, and now being struck with a stomach bug, i got to thinking-- what do you eat when you are super sick and paleo?
right now, the only things that my stomach can handle are toast/banana/very watered down gatorade/water/chicken broth.
just wondering how you all handle this. (or, maybe since paleo's are strong and awesome, they don't get sick. evar.)
-
i'm on there too. username is nightlight. nothing much there yet, because of the stomach bug.
-
still plagued. only thing in was watered down gatorade, and dry toast. hopefully can start feeling better soon and make my 3x a week gym trip fri-sun!

the first day of the challenge went right down the tubes about an hour after i posted. i got chills, fever, and stomach cramps. i caught the office plague. spent the rest of the day in bed. no gym today, probably not tomorrow.
as far as food intake, i started out with breakfast this morning - better oats oatmeal (170cals) just now nursing my stomach with diet ginger ale. i know the diet part is probably not good for me, but i can't drink sugared soda, it gives me a stomach ache. my roommate also made me eat some mac & cheese that he made. we use the low fat recipe on the box, probably ate about a cup of that before more cramps came.
how does someone who is paleo eat when they are sick like this?

LOL Prefect!
I've already started a challenge, even though it may not be "official." Excited!
-
hi-o!
starting the challenge late. even if i can't be an official entrant, wanted to get moving as soon as i could.
race: human...just human. female
class: still deciding, but i think ranger fits my goals best.
stats: 5'4" 175-180lbs (haven't been on a scale in a while)
(will post official weight tomorrow night after a meeting with mr. scale.)
fitness goals:
1. go to the gym at a minimum of 3x per week.
one session must consist of c25k work - i'm picking up again at week 3. one session must consist of weight training. write all exercises down and work to failure.
2. try a new class at the gym. possibly cardio strike or bosu challenge.
diet goals:
1. bite it, and write it. i'll be tracking my diet on dailyburn using the same username. i'll also post my food intake here.
2. start eliminating the "bad stuff." (white sugar, white flour, cookies, cake.)
3. pay attention to protein and vegetable intake. i love both of these things, but find it difficult to get it in, hopefully being more mindful and eliminating bad carbs will help.
life goal:
1. get rid of crap. start with clothing.
and...go!

welcome! i'm new too. i'm also thinking about the paleo diet. good luck on here!

thanks joshua!
i'm a database analyst, so just a run of the mill computer monkey. my office is on a nice campus, but it being COLD up here in the north east, going out at lunch is tough. i'm hoping that once I start getting back into a gym routine, my eating will follow. i've signed up for a daily burn account to start tracking what i'm really putting into my body. i'm hoping to join the next challenge when it comes around and make some more formal goals.

hi all!
i've been aware of nerdfitness.com for a while, getting the rss feed into my google reader, but wasn't aware of the message boards till today!
i'm really glad to have found the boards as i've found myself in a pretty big rut. since graduating college (i'm 31 now) i've gained about 45lbs (most of that in the past 3 years.) while in college and my early 20's a serious back injury (severed sciatic nerve) kept any sort of running/pavement pounding activities grounded, but i practiced yoga 5x a week and lived in NYC so did a ton of walking.
currently, i go to the gym for two classes a week-- body pump and zumba, but that's clearly not enough. i started the C25K program a while ago, and even did my first 5k in october. my weight is not budging. my eating is out of control, and a sedentary desk job puts the nail in the coffin. i really enjoy working out, but finding the motivation seems to be insurmountable.
i'm hoping to find some motivation, community, and help myself suck less using these boards. high hopes? yes. impossible -- NEVER.
