  1. Alrighty so here to check in and have an awesome update. So Its been almost 3 months since I started the switch to Paleo and am feeling great. I may have metioned before that my mom has Celiac Disease. Since starting my Paleo journey, I have tried to share information with her and that her packaged "gluten-free" food could be replaced with something better. She changed the subject quickly each time. I gave up until last night. She ate something with peanuts in it and was in horrible pain. When I checked on her this morning she told me she had been up all night with pain so bad she couldn't sleep. As I tried to think of a way to slide in some of what I had learned and about the awesome book I just read, It Starts With Food, she asked me what was different about how I ate. WOOHOOO..some interest. I kept it as simple as I could and told her to ditch her gluten free breads and snacks, forget about rice and to eat some good ol' meat and veggies for awhile. I then gave her my kindle so she could look through my stock pile of info and cook books. Crossing my fingers that she gives it an honest shot For the rest of my goals ...still strength training 3 days a week and spending the other days hiking and swimming. I love having summers off lol Weight is holding steady at 158 but i grabbed a pair of shorts today that had been much to tight a few weeks ago and they fit perfectly. Not focusing on my weight so much as the big picture and that is feeling great, having a bunch of energy and enjoying the changes in my body. School is school..finishing out the last few days of this class before it's on to another. SO since the last update things are awesome and I feel like freakin superwoman with all the energy I have
  2. Tuesday ....so 2months on paleo then ate bread Monday and Tuesday ...suffers through a work date with stomach pains then hit.the grocery store after work for enough meat and veggies to last the fam a week...and for 146 dollars for a family of 5...yayyyy my kick ass menu/grocery list worked
  3. Day 7.................. 1) Paleo - the last couple days have been more 50/50 and lack of preparation is a huge part of it..last minute trip to the river for my friends son's birthday party, and I"m payday to payday teacher that really needs to go grocery shopping lol this has been my first fall off the wagon since starting almost 2 months ago. Tomorrow is a new day 2) Gym time ...so Sunday was weights and some cardio, yesterday was swimming and tonight back to weights ...on the up side being a mother of a teenager gives me enough aggression to whip the machines into submission..lol 3) school....revised paper is submitted and not stressin as I got an "A" on the first draft..awesomeness 4)Weight is still hanging out at 158...so no bad news there.
  4. Awesome goals and congrats on the success already...my Dad always raised us to believe that the outdoors was the cure for everything..be it sickness or sadness P.S. I joked in my challenges that one of them was to avoid rattlesnakes..you so have me beat with the bear issue lol
  5. 5 days into the challenge.....things are going awesomely... Goal 1 ) still going strong with Paleo yayyyy me I am slightly bored by some of the comments I get from friends who think it is completely silly that I eat this way..Really never felt the pressure to explain to people what I eat...Really there has to be more interesting things to talk about lol Goal 2 ) Workin out...today was the first day in a week I hit the weights. Threw on some rock music and lifted for about 30 minutes and aiming for another 30 on the elliptical in just a bit Goal 3 ) school work...I keep reminding myself that there is a goal ..I feel slightly silly going back to change my major in my 30's but it is time for a change. and it is going well Goal 4 ) have lost a pound since my Monday weigh-in which I am happy with...have also done a food log on the Lose It App cause it calculates the percentages of fat, carbs and protein and its pretty nifty and if i should eat anything packaged all I have to do is scan the barcode...woohoo.. so far so good. I am happy with my progress and there is something about posting updates on here that makes it mandatory to not f this up hahaha
  6. Can't say it was just one place. I started with looking up recipes for both myself and to send to my mom who has Celiac Disease. ( several of my friends suggested the Paleo way for the whole family ). Next, I found Everyday Paleo which is great as far as getting ideas for the kids. and then hit on Mark's Daily Apple website...best website by far for all the 101 questions I had on Primal eating. When you register with that site, little lessons of the day are sent to your email as well as access to several free books to download. All very straight forward and easy ALso Youtube has some rather entertaining how-to cooking shows. They are fun to watch Are you thinking of trying it out ?
  7. Lmao yeah I was thinking four jobs may be pushing it...luckily I am super creative with time management skills..good luck to you as well
  8. Good advice and thank you I do keep track of numbers...as in a paper filled with abbreviations and chicken scratch that only I understand. It does keep me on track..and is a nice visual that I am slowly but surely getting stronger. I will be running my first 5k mud run in August ...mud, running and 100+ degrees ...that's a good time
  9. Update to me...from me . Goal 1 ) paleo - got it in the bag..except for yesterday when I hit starbucks with a friend. Do you realize they make Peppermint Mocha's year 'round...damn you starbucks..note to self..step away from the mochas Goal 2 ) working out and having fun...Monday was weights and elliptical, Tuesday....does lifting classroom furniture stacked ceiling high count? Wednesay's plan was to take my beast of a dog for a walk...Munch decided we should run...lol SWEET!! and tonight I am hitting a new hiking trail we just found...yayyyy Goal 3 ) School - breaking the cycle of procrastination and doing a little each day...everything due tonight is done and submitted Goal 4 ) weight is still 159...not stressing as I cannot afford to buy new jeans lol
  10. Good luck to you as well and I am loving your Robert Heinlein quote
  11. Hello all, So this is my first challenge and I’m ready to go…So a little about me..I am a single mom of four, full time Pre-K Program supervisor and a full time student. My weight started climbing slowly as my schedule got busier and my diet got crappier. Several months ago, I took a deep breath and stepped on the scale. My 5’4 previously muscular frame was now almost 178 pounds. So I took baby steps. I stopped drinking soda and kept a log of what I ate each day. That was helpful in showing me that I was under calories each day but my carb intake was outrageous. I lost 10 pounds fairly quickly by just being more aware. Then I came across a website explaining the ins and outs of the Paleo lifestyle. I jumped on the bandwagon and lost another 9 so far. I am at 159 lbs as of today and happy with the journey thus far..Now I’m ready for a challenge. Goal 1 – Though I am pretty steady with the 80/20 Paleo , my goal is to spend Sundays prepping. Cooking meals ahead, emergency Paleo snacks on those crazy days when work and kids have me playing taxi service. Plan ahead and I will have far less slip ups or those days when I refuse to cheat but come home starving because there was nothing to eat. I am enjoying every second of more energy and zero stomach issues so I need to plan ahead. Goal 2 – I am active but the four walls of a gym are just not motivating to me. Luckily, my BMX loving teenager has a pretty nice gym set up right in the garage so I have been taking advantage…3 days a week of weights..no Excuses. Finally, another 3 days of just getting out and enjoying the outdoors..Walks, jogs, swimming, hiking…I do live in the desert and I now aim to take full advantage of all it has to offer..avoiding rattle snakes may need to be a another goal lol Goal 3 – I am in the middle of an extremely boring class. I know enough about myself to realize that I need to be challenged or I make no effort at all. So wrong I know, but in the next weeks , the goal is stay on track and stop procrastinating on assignments. Goal 4 – Kick butt at 1,2, and 3 and hopefully I will lose another 10 pounds over the next 6 weeks Stay tuned…and good luck to all
