  1. It's worth noting that it's not a single 500km ride, but an accumulated 500km over the 6 weeks. The longest ride I've done is 75km at a single stretch so 500km would probably kill me (and take a couple of days )
  2. So the nature of this challenge is to test myself. I've always been hesitant about joining the community and doing a challenge as I never felt I had any particular goals I wanted to achieve. I realised that this is not necessarily the best way to approach it. After I got back from my recent(ish) holiday to the US, i've struggled to get my life back to the same level that it was before I left. A lot of this is mental and something I've learnt about myself is that if I'm not happy, I just force myself to start achieving things and pushing hard and then it all settles down again. This is quite pertinent to how I approach it: With that in mind, I present... The "Pushing Like Sisyphus" Striving For Awesomeness Challenge Fitness Goal 1: Ride 500km total. I like riding a lot, and I usually get to ride to work 3-5 days a week. This trip is about 16km per day (48-80km a week, 288-480 per 6 weeks), so if I'm going to achieve this, I'm going to have to put in extra time on the weekends and do some nice long rides. I have a 40km circuit I do occasionally which takes me about 2 hours. The weather could affect this a bit (it's winter here), so we'll see how it plays out. Fitness Goal 2: Climb the Green Level 21 wall at my rock climbing gym. There is a particular wall at my gym which I have attempted once and it absolutely killed me. It's a high level (the number is fairly arbitrary, but relative within the gym, with the hardest climbs being about level 25-28) climb with a tough overhang about 2/3's of the way up. I will climb this wall. I am currently climbing level 20's and the odd 21, but the overhang makes this absolutely brutal. I will post the successful climb video as proof. Diet Goal 1: Reduce take-away food intake to <= 1 night a week. I like cooking, but sometimes I can't be bothered. I tend to cook during the week, but have slid towards buying take-away on weekends (usually friday and saturday nights). This is a trend I would like to arrest. I'm not going to include going out with friends to restaurants in this. This is strickly for when I'm home by myself or with my housemates only. Life Goal 1: Complete my WP7 app v2. Early last year I made a Windows Phone 7 app and put in on the Windows Marketplace. I then basically ignored it. I feel quite guilty and want to get this updated to the new WP7 hotness. I will make sure that has been submitted for certification (as cert can take a while). I still have a lot of work left to do, but this is completely doable. Wish me luck
  3. Thanks everyone. I realised I didn't throw down my nerd cred I'm a software developer by trade, PC gamer by hobby. I buy and play WAY too many games on Steam (Profile. Feel free to hit me up on Steam Big big boardgame fan with my favourites being Cards Against Humanity, 7 Wonders and Citadels. Basically I'll play anything and if it can be done with friends, even better
  4. As requested Myself (left) and FeloniusMonk (right)
  5. G'day All, Alastair Pitts here, or AP Erebus just about everywhere on the internets. I also lurk on the NF IRC If you want a visual reference, I'm the "Alastair from Melbourne" in this posts Hero of the Day. I have to admit, I feel slightly odd about joining NF. Mainly because I'm quite comfortable with my amount of exercise and general health. Not saying that the only reason to join because you're the opposite of those things, but still, feel like a bit of a pretender. I ride (a push bike) to work each day, rock climb once a week and also play badminton once a week I think I'll just blame spezzy and LorenWade Mostly I think I'll be here for the challenges (although trying to think up goals is a challenge in itself), but being part of such an awesome community is also a big draw... So yeah, happy to finally pull the trigger and join. Cheers, AP!
