Insight Timer App--Anyone else use this?
Lizifer replied to WolfDreamer's topic in Yoga & Martial Arts
I've been using IT for about 3 years. I love it SO MUCH. So many meditation apps out there dictate how you will meditate, so I really enjoy how insight allows me the freedom to choose what type and duration of meditation in which I wish to engage. I do wish I could tie in the yoga choices in the app to my yoga classes app, though. -
I love my Nalgenes like whoa. I have wide mouth 32oz bottles, and those things have been through hell and back - dropped on concrete, asphalt, down a mountain, and more, and while they're dinged up, they're still with me! I replace the lid with a capCAP, so I can fill easily, but still have a narrow drinking spout kinda deal. I keep one in my gym bag, one in my office, and one in my car, and except that one time I didn't close the lid, I've never had a leak. They are my jam.

I would love to have an app feature for the Academy, especially.

When I wrapped up my Whole30, I wanted Krispy Kreme doughnuts SO BADLY. I grew up with them, and for the last week of my W30, there were times I felt like a dying man in a desert, and they were the oasis for which I was reaching. And then I had one. And yeh, it was delicious, but... it also kinda gave me a headache. And made my mouth feel kinda slimy and grainy and weird all at once? And then I spent the rest of the day feeling pretty sluggish. It was really upsetting.

Has anyone had problems with their Fitbit pooping out on 'em after a few months?

Rando, but... I'm looking at the NF tanks, and I can't seem to find the composition. Does anyone know off hand? I thought I'd seen something about womens' tanks being performance, but I can't find that anymore.

What's the best way to track your workout?
Lizifer replied to DaygloNirvana's topic in Rebel Army Base Camp
I'm a Jefit person too (smartphone app), for my lifts. -
Mmmmm, flow state. There are certain moving mediation types of things that embrace flow - to the point that they are often referred to as "flow arts." It usually encompasses things like staves, poi, and hoops. Yoga does it too, to a degree. But the version that people seem to be talking about here, when you are deeply into the whatever-it-is to the point of losing track of time, for me tends to center on creative pursuits. At one time, I used to perform on stage, and when I was on stage, I would completely lose track of what I was actually doing. On more than one occasion, I remember people referencing a specific bit of my act, and I had no recollection whatsoever of having performed it. These days, it tends to go hand-in-hand with making collages, drafting letter arts, sewing projects, or (the really sad/ rad version) getting lost in s spreadsheet.

Thanks, Disil/Gainsdalf! My Boything (and gym buddy) looked at me like a crazy person when he saw my calendar, with all my options laid out on it (colour coded, so I can see workouts clearly versus my other obligations - they're not all things I WILL take, but they are the options for classes that work with my schedule), and when I mentioned I was bummed that I'm going have to miss my morning class for the next month or so.

What's stopping you from working out or joining a gym?
Lizifer replied to P3Performance's topic in General Fitness
One of the things that has held me back from the gym over the years is not having an accountibilibuddy -- the gyms I can afford aren't in great parts of town, and I have spent most of my life being told how to avoid being raped... and muscle-bound men in a "man's environment" in a not-great part of town... hasn't seemed wildly appealing. -
I've tried to read through all the questions here, but haven't gotten all the way through, so it's possible someone has already asked this, buuuutttttt... How much is *too much* working out? I am ridiculously schedule-based, but I *love* variety. So I like to have a mix of cardio, weight lifting, different kinds of yoga, and group classes in my week... Which starts to look a little insane, once I get them into my calendar. How crackballs is it to go to a class at 0545 for weightlifting and then a vinyasa class that night... multiple times in a week? I do generally have at least a day or two full days of NO working out, so is that sufficient balance? I am getting seriously conflicting responses from people, so I figured who better to ask than the Rebellion?

I may be an outlier: I tend to hit Marshalls - I can get Reebok and Nike tights for about 1/4 of the price, which makes me happy ($15-20 for compression capris? $5 for a fly-away tank? Sign me up). There's also some off-brand stuff that works nicely for yoga/ pilates/ group fitness stuff. I've even found a few REALLY nice boob holsters that don't smash me into a pain-cake, but don't risk splitting my lip when I get high-impact. I tend to accumulate a LOT of gear, because I workout at my house/ neighbourhood, with my BF at the gym near his place, and at the office, and I really hate schlepping stuff all over and/or doing laundry. By hitting Marshalls periodically, I can stock up on basics and not be doing laundry 10x a week.

I've been using a buff-style thing as I grow my hair out, and it's far too short to stay put behind anything else. It's been working pretty well.

I pretty regularly make coconut milk chocolate mousse. Sometimes, I'll chuck in some almond butter for kicks, too.

So that's not just me? I thought maybe I had dropped a barbell on my head and couldn't figure out how to get to them.

We currently house three dogs (affectionately known as Small, Medium, and Large). Small = Chihuahua/ MinPin mix (rescue): Bellatrix Medium = Tennesee Treeing WalkHound (rescue): Hattie (originally, Hatsumomo, after the villian in Memoirs of a Geisha, but: Southern, and a Southern breed, so her full name is Hattie Sue Momo) Large = Great Dane (oops litter): Sirius (like the dog star! And also: Black, as is his colouring) And one ball python: Gabe. We have had as many as twelve animals in the house at once (including five cats), but we're pretty comfy with having just the three dogs and one snake now

What do you guys replace emotional eating with?
Lizifer replied to LadyAssassin's topic in Rebel Army Base Camp
Hmmmm. I idon't usually have "snacks" in the house, so I have no option to engage in this behaviour. All I keep on hand is "ingredients" - stuff that has to be prepared into something else or cooked in some way. This is very frustrating to The Manflesh, who is a snacker and often tells me I need to "nibble on something." But it works for me. Otherwise, I pick up a book I've been wanting to read or go shadow-box with my dog, which has the added bonus of making me laugh at his doofiness. -
*sigh* I have let other things take priority - mostly slothfulness, if I'm honest. Changes to my vehicle situation/ carpooling, other plans, having met my weight goal, cooler weather, new doggeh, blah-blah-excuse-cakes. I have a long history of making goals, writing them down, and then finding out that for me, that's a surefire way to derail myself. I know it's SUPOPSED to work, but it just doesn't for me. However: I have made progress. - I have paid off two credit cards since I began this - I can complete two RPoD - I am about 75% into a full-on, unassisted pullup - I can hold my balance in some of the poses set out in the beginning, even in flow - I am mostly grain and legume free I have two races in the next two months (5k) - a zombie run in October, and a Colour Run in November. I have added another workout buddy for Sunday runs. I am getting back to my class schedule, since I have come to a place of "OK, this is what I need to do" and not making others be my impetus.

I used SP for a while, but frankly, their site design gave me a headache. I use MFP as my primary calorie tracker now, with pretty decent results.

I love those posts.

My primary fandom is Whedon: BtVS, Firefly, Dollhouse, Cabin in the Woods, The Avengers. (Not so much Angel, though.) Harry Potter, Douglas Adams, Sandman, and Tanky round me out.

It's considered elective and cosmetic, so... while it's restorative, so is plastic surgery in some cases (I had an ex who had pretty much his whole head reshaped and built after a particularly bad automotive accident and other friends who have had to have nip/ snip/ tuck work done after other catastrophic events, and it's all the same technology and implementation; only the impetus is different). I'm kinda A is A is A, though, which isn't always the best way to be, so YMMV. *crooked grin*

Advice for getting past the psychological hurdles

Oh, lexpheonix, I LOVE the thermometer jeans! Thanks for that - that's great.
