  1. At my old job, I would farmer's carry two 7-15 gal trees for customers (bc leaving the carts near the tree lot made too much sense to my coworkers) or I would be stacking retaining wall bricks into a display or moving concrete statues. I was the heavy lifter for the garden center, in a nutshell. During the summer, I help my husband with hay bale stacking and delivery. In the gym, I'm doing these virtual classes called Bodypump by Les Mills. (I can't stand just doing free weights, I get bored and don't work as hard without direction). I can't seem to find the appropriate weight for the different sections. I'll be able to do most of the routine but towards the end, my muscles and wrists start to give out on me. If I drop down a plate size, it's like I'm barely working at all. So the question becomes, do I stick with the tougher weight and eventually be able to power through? I'm so winded and shaky at the end of the video that I wonder if I'm over doing it. (Probably just over thinking it... now that I look back. Stupid 20/20) Any recommendations for strengthening wrists? I could do a proper plank or push up if they would stop hurting. I do 3-gun competitions with a 9mm XDM, a 12-guage Mossberg, and a custom built AR-15 (sounds psychotic but I love the adrenaline rush of knocking down steel!)
  2. For all rebels out in the ether: has anyone ever had the experience of feeling discouraged every time you walk out of the gym? For clarification, I know how much I can physically life and move because of life on the farm.... I go to the gym to do actual strength training and feel utterly defeated. I thought I was a lot stronger than what I'm actually lifting. So this is either a case of skewed perception of the stuff I work with or its I'm not pushing myself enough. Thoughts?
  3. This is more along the lines of one of my epics quests.... I need to pick a quilt pattern. thoughts? (NOTE: the color of the fabrics will be St. Louis Cardinals so red, white and blue)
  4. I was always taught the correct poundage will be a little tough to do on the first set but you should struggle towards the end of your sets. If you're not breaking a sweat, you ain' working..... that kind o' thing. If you need a direct accountability buddy, hmu. I may be a quarter of the world away from ya, but that's why technology has its perks!
  5. Week 2 of Runnin' & Gunnin'

Not been a real productive first week of my challenge. Looking back I may have tried changing too many things in my life at once.

I have identified the enemy, the creature upon which my quests are blown to pieces and I am forced to respawn somewhere else on the map to try again..... and it's my husband. :disturbed:

Every time I set a workout schedule or a meal plan, he tempts me with an easier path. And I fall for it. Every. Single. Time.

I'm gonna respawn again and work on my mental strength against him. May have to "pull out the big guns" for this boss battle.

  6. Status Update: Callin' this weekend a wash. Did NOT want to deal with Snowmaggedon outside so I kept my happy inside and leveled up on Fallout (counting that as a win cuz I suck at gun play on the Xbox). New week and the roads are clear so back to the workout plan... Monday: Yoga then strength train X Tuesday: off (clean yon domicile while the house spouse works nights) x Wednesday: Yoga then strength train x Thursday: Zumba!!! - Friday: not sure yet.... probably bodypump - Saturday: Zumba!! - Still working on the meal plan for the week. I've got tons of deer burger in the freezer.... chili is def on there. and prolly sloppy joes.... Ideas?
  7. I do 3-gun competitions so... Springfield XDM in 9mm, a custom built AR and I used to borrow other ladies' sshotguns to compete, but last fall I won a Mossberg JM Pro Series 12-guage. SO now I've got the whole set!
  8. That's what I was hoping for. If you're ever in the mood to go shooting again. I'm not against traveling up there to a competition.
  9. First update: Let me just say, last night was rough for me. I was trying to give myself every damned excuse in the book to not go to the gym... "The meatheads will be there." "You don't know what you're doing." "You had a hard day, take the night off.".. you name it, I said it. Even as I was walking into the gym. . Chose to go at 8:30pm. Figured there would be less people around. (I was right. Score!) . . Here's what I accomplished: Dumbbell Rows 3 sets, 10 reps each at 30# Dumbbell Chest Press 3 sets of ten at 20# Triceps Bench Dips, 3 sets of 10, BW Pushups, 3 sets of 10, knees . Single leg alternating lunges, 3 sets of 10 per side, BW Barbell squats, 3 sets of 10, 40# Deadlift, 3 sets of 10, 40# Overhead Press, 3 sets of 10, 40# . . My thighs don't like me rn.
  10. I started this week. I fell into the "I'm afraid to bulk up" category so I spent week 0 actually looking into it all. I have a plan to do these virtual classes at the wellness center called Bodypump. I've done them in the past just never with enough weight to kick my ass. Pictures to come soon. Didn't have any on my desktop. (My garden is aaaaaallll natural... i.e.it looks like no one lives here! Thank goodness I live in the country)
  11. Hi all! Lemme just say how thrilled I am to find this place! Motivated nerds to help this semi-motivated nerd! Love it! I am an almost-30 () farm girl from the Midwest where the skies are wide, the creeks aplenty and the old folks have NO FRIGGIN IDEA what a hobbit or power armor or PvP is! (Pray for me.) I've done challenges elsewhere, some successful, some.... ish? marginally? not?.... yeah, will go with a resounding NOT. I lead a colorful life. I'm obsessed with flowers and growing things (I squeal when I first see daffodils poking up in the springtime). I grew up learning ye olde traditions such as quilting, canning, gardening and crochet. In the past five years, I've become enamored with competitive shooting. (My husband said, "Find an expensive hobby." So I did.) I've realized in the past two years of actually competeing that, while I may be decent with marksmanship, my physical endurance sucks. SO, getting healthy has been the focus for this year's goals. Then maybe I won't be dying for breath at the end of a long stage. I know I can trust you guys to kick me out on the road to Epicness sooooo….. EPIC QUEST: Place in the top 25% at a competition in 2019 Challenge Quest 1: Be Cool Hunny Bunny (marksmanship) - Place in the top 50% of competitors in my first match of the season Task 1: Choose Your Battleground - layout all the matches to attend for the 2019 season Task 2: Shoot the Hostage - Target practice 1-2x per week for 1 hour (1/2 dry fire, 1/2 live fire) Challenge Quest 2: Wonder Woman (fitness) Task1: Fight the Fork- Meal plan every Sunday and stick to it (reward is a dinner I don't have to cook on grocery day) Task 2: Push It, Push It Real Good - Strength train 2-3x per week for 1 hour Level Up: The Ties That Bind - Make a quilt for 2 family members that haven't received one yet Task 1: The Pattern of Fate - identify target and select design Task 2: Sneak Attack - delivery in an unexpected way LET'S DO THIS!
