  1. Backstory In 2017, I graduated my PhD, moved back to my home country after 12 years of the Western world. I got a job everyone looked up to, rented a spacious apartment. Worked hard and had some small successes and kept the relationship with my long distance girlfriend. Mid 2018, I considered killing myself. The job was very hard, which left me little time to socialize. I had to relearn all the food and reorganize the kitchen. I experienced a HUGE culture shock as well as organization pressure to perform well. This let me spiral in to eating like hell and sleeping like shit. I felt something in me broken. And it showed. My work became terrible. I snapped at coworkers. I became fatter and older and sadder in a year. But I held on. I healed a little at a time. Now I am starting to rebuild my life from the ground up. That was not very bardic, but hey, I'm just Level 1. ===== Hey folks, my name is Tom. I'm a bardic garlic, and that's also my username. My cultural cuisine has a knack of putting garlic in most things. I'm 30. Working at a government organization in South East Asia. The race is East Asian with a small mix of Mystery, but I am built like a dwarf (5'4"-175 lb / 163 cm-78 kg- Approx 22% fat) and have a face of a 15 year old. So... life is complicated. I want to imagine that I am sent to this tropical country as a preventative measure against evil spirits which lurk in the mind of people. Their souls can get corrupt and turn into monsters anytime. Gotta be ready to silently take care of them before anybody notices! I am apart of the agency that does this across the world. My agency (basically my research lab) has stations across US and Asia. My goals in life include: 1. Achieve work-life balance 2. Feel at home in this new city. 3. Has a healthy waistline- enough to charm my ways out of things sometimes. 4. Complete a short novel (I'm a bard after all) 5. Become more flexible, fast, and agile. My S.M.A.R.T goals 1. Work-Life Balance - Practice gratuity 3-5 times a week - Stop any work-related activities before 8 PM - Track my sleep - Do "some fun thing" once a week. 2. Healthy waistline - No drink with calorie (social drinking allowed once a month) - Eat at least 10 meals this month that's home cooked (Feel at home, also checked!) - Track my food and exercises 3. Complete a short novel - 30 minute of writing a day at least 3 days a week. My job requires me to be busy and my schedule is unpredictable, so any advice on this is great. Thank you and nice to meet you.

Please don't encourage me too much.... I tend to gloat. Tracking: Sleep: 21:00-5:00 Nice, 7 hour sleep. Food: 6:30 cake rolls, (only two, I promised) 7:30 Pork and eggplants, black sticky rice 10:00 Sticky rice snack with dried fish and brown sugar 12:00 Crispy pork and string beans in chili sauce, rice 15:00 2 bite-sized palm fruit pie 20:00 Cabbage soup with egg tofu and stuffed squid, pork panang, rice, pineapple, watermelon After tracking food for a while, I become conscious of the colors of the food I have eaten. And I noticed that without artificial colors, unhealthy food tends to look... bland and uninspiring. Real fruits, well-cooked meat, and vegetables glow like gems. Still, I should focus on not eating too much. Exercise 5 minute of stretching 50 pull ups 40 chin ups 67 push ups 100 squats (I long for the days I had time to complete my workout) Work is crazy. I got a position I have to "standby" (a word for standing there, doing nothing, and looking pretty in a suit) for a ceremony. From 8:30-9 today, 6-5 from Monday to Wednesday! That's so horribly painful. This backs up my busy schedule, and I couldn't do anything because it was a direct order from the vice president. I was bored out of my mind! And there are three days left. Psst. I took a work out break for an hour, (which is allowed once a day) because I was so stressed from the boredom. When I came back, the someone really important was about to get to their hotel next to the ceremony hall, and the policemen told me to sprint to the hall to avoid getting trapped by the security processes! So I sprinted, in my suit, for a good 200 meter. Anyway, back to pretending to be important at work.

Thanks, yes, it is good to be home. Though chaos (and fun) isn't over. Friday's tracking: Sleep: 1:00 AM- 5:30 AM, a sleep in Hong Kong hotel's transit. I know I'm beyond my 20's when I would rather pay a hefty money for 4:30 of sleep. Haha Food: 6:00 Fast food, (I was hungry and cranky for some reason... I ate the whole pig the day before), Fried chicken, eggs, sausages, hash brown, black coffee 9:00 Dim sum, mixed fruit, black tea 12:00 Beef Khao Soi (egg noodle in Northern Thailand coconut milk curry) 14:00 Apples and jujubes (not depicted) Also some snacks I brought from Taiwan 18:00 My colleague's lab is throwing a party. I showed up eating mostly veggies (with some grilled pork and noodles) and drinking just plain soda water. I felt so proud. 19:00 A student brought... this fruit... it's called canistel. It tastes like the mix between avocado, mango, and yellow crayola. Weird fruit. I kind of liked it. He let me have all the seeds! Exercise: I did a shorter ensemble because I had an errand. Pull up, 5x3 Chin up, 5x3 Bench press, 90 kilos, 5x3 Squat, 90 kilos, 5x3 Dead lift, 90 kilos, 5x3 Overhead press, 50 kilos, 5x3 Gratitude: 1. A good day back. No stress (not more than usual) 2. That good, sweet rest Saturday's tracking: Sleep: 12:00 AM - 7:00 AM The errand ran late. Food: My mother visited, so I only ate approximately two-third the food depicted. 8:00 Grilled pork, sticky rice, steamed veggies 12:00 Herb colored rice noodle with pork blood curry, banana flowers, banana; passion fruit juice. 13:00 Grass jelly with ice. 16:00 Japanese cheesecake (My mother wants to "split" it with me... meaning she ate one bite and I ate the rest...) 18:00 Lamb kebab, salad, eggplant salsa, naan, hummus Exercise 7:00 1 hour of walking, moderate 17:00 40 minute of walking, fast 18:30 40 minute of walking, fast Gratitude: 1. My mother is here. 2. My mother is paying for food. I have been neglecting commenting on others' threads. Will have to follow soon!

Thanks! It was a great trip. Unfortunately too much eating and drinking and not enough exercise, haha! Thanks! Will keep them coming. Yes, Asian cultures in particular are bad at this, I feel. Thanks! I would recommend visiting the island in summer. It was really fun to be there but to be honest the wind was murder in January. Thank you! Such delay... Sorry. Work attacked at the very moment I came back from Taiwan. I'm updating yesterday's tracking first. Today's tracking will be updated tonight. It's another day without food pics. Sorry! Yesterday's tracking Sleep : 10:30-5:30: 7 hrs After getting some confirmation from my mentors to collaborate with my project internationally (and with the help of Taiwanese Professor's 'invisible liquor' of Matsu Island--alcohol 55%) I was out like a light. These professors must have some iron livers. Like, I'm young and built like a miniature bull and all that but I can't handle alcohol the way they do. Food 7:30 Seafood porridge, Fried egg and glass noodle in a shell, beef dumpling 12:30 Island meal, boiled shrimp, seaweeds, fried bacon, red fried rice, so much veggies. 16:00 Chicken and waffle, Taiwanese squash tea. 19:00 A student who is my age decided to treated me a farewell party. Spicy beef noodle with bok choy, and the garnishes which I decided must be a whole pig (tripe, stewed skin, intestine, bacon etc.). 21:00 Ginger tea... because I felt like I was pregnant with a whole pig. Exercise: A little bit of venturing around the island. Seeing Matsu Temple and the oceanic fort. 100 push ups 100 squats Gratitude: - Meals with friends - Smooth travel back to Thailand Creative writing: - 15 minutes of it on the plane. The battery of my laptop was out first. I won't be Billy Shakespear any time soon, but I think I'm closer than yesterday. Now, back to normal mode. It's time to catch up with menial tasks I have been neglecting for three days. Thank you folks for the supports!

Haha, thanks! It was very cool... to the point of cold. Thank you. It is going well. Thanks! Tracking: I was giving a talk about how to enhance tourism in Taiwan's Matsu Island. I was very excited. This is the first time I worked with a translator. Sleep: 10:30-6:30. Good and relaxing! Food: Sorry again, food with the government people means no pics. 7:30 Soy milk, grilled sticky rice with sauce, red bean soup, tofu skin bagel sandwich. 10:00 Cake break 12:00 Grilled pork, pork meatball, vegetables, pickles, rice 15:00 Another cake break. I didn't finish this one. 18:00 LOTS of local seafood. Yellow wine and other island liquor(used for toasting... and I toasted a lot). It seems that I failed the "drinking once a month" challenge. A mistake is a mistake, but I plan not to make more. One food stood out... Buddha's hand mussels. It does look like a pair of clawed hands praying. Exercise: None. Gratitude: 1. I finished the talk. The island people thanked me a lot. I feel appreciated. 2. The food. It was so exotic. Each dish weirder than another. Tofu skin bagel sandwich ,Red fungus fried rice, noodles made of fish meat, sticky seaweed, Buddha's hands, Yellow Island wine. It was an entire new experience. 3. My translators (grad students), they are awesome. I would not have understood any of the other speakers without them because the entire conference was in Mandarin. I need to work on creative writing at some point!

Neither would I, but a dream is a dream. I would not mind trying that if the cook has certificate about food sanitation and if it still doesn't look like a bug. Cockroach puree/ protein bar/ paste dessert? Sign me up. Tastes normal. It's just egg noodles with pandanus leaves. Haha, yes. The pork dish and rice was tasty too. Thanks! I'll keep it up. Tracking I'm in Matsu Island, Taiwan! I cannot photograph everything I ate because I was with big name professors and the local officials. It'd be rude to pull a phone out on them. I'll track it with travel photos instead. Sleep: 2:30-6:30 4 hours. I arrived the hotel in Taipei at 2 AM, so that can't be helped. Food: I think I'm a monster when I'm traveling. Or maybe it's sleep. - 00:10 Chicken bbq pie, iced tea, cookie (Remember when I said they didn't serve dinner on the plane? That was a lie...) I also should control myself better, but here I was. - 07:30 Broccoli and Ghost broccoli (cauliflowers) in curry sauce, eggs, steamed gyoza, porridge. - 12:00 Seafood pizza, a scoop of spaghetti carbonara - 18:00 Lots of local Taiwanese food. Plum rice, eggs with mussels, stir fry celery, steamed chicken, etc. I ate 2-3 bites each. Everyone talked in Mandarin so I kept my mouth full. Haha. - 20:00 Local Matsu liquor (55 degree), Taiwan beer, and traditional peanut bar with three of my academic heroes. BEST MONTHLY DRINK EVER. Exercise: (According to my colleagues' tracker) - 4.5 miles of walking around deer park with the elevation change of 52 flights of stairs. - Also the tour of the pirate village. Gratitude: - I'm surrounded with the legend from my field. I'm screaming like a fangirl on the inside the whole time. (I feel like they tolerated me enough haha.) - The winter ocean around me. The salt water. The dramatic cliffs. Gotta go. Peace!
