  1. Hi! I always fancied giving roller derby a try, although it's not so big over here in the UK. Possibly a bit late for me now, but never say never... I'm new here myself so just learning the ropes, but I think having people I can talk to about my goals without boring the folks at home too much will be cool. I'm a musician so I'd probably enjoy a Bard guild too. Oh, and an owl. Because they are both cute and wise, as I aspire to be . Which would you choose?
  2. Lol, what spare downtime? You sound a bit like me with so much going on, and so many interests (I totally get the overthinking and researching/ranting things too!). Hopefully this community will help to keep the likes of us a bit more reined in and focused on our goals...
  3. Hi - thanks for replying! Yeah, I think I'm starting to figure out the guilds etc...in terms of the challenges I think I'm gonna lurk around here for a few days and read up on what other people are up to, then join in with the next one :-) It's actually really timely that I found this place, as I'd already decided to make 2019 a year of small sustainable changes in various areas of my life - so Nerd Fitness seems a perfect fit for me.
  4. Hello fellow Rebels! I'm new around here, and feeling a little shy, but I get the impression you're a friendly and helpful lot and I'm looking forward to getting to know everyone. I'm a (whisper it...) 47 year old Brit who is trying to get into shape once and for all. I've always been fairly active...on and off...but in 2018 I had minor surgery and a lot of medical tests, which prevented me from doing any exercising for most of the year. On top of that, my partner was made redundant from his job last July, and started driving me to work every day. I previously walked to and from the office - a mile and a half each way - and I know I should start up with that again now that I'm fully recovered, but it's psychologically difficult because that would mean missing out on those precious few minutes each morning in the car with my partner and 11 year old daughter! I've set up a 'weights dungeon' in my basement, with a simple bench, squat rack and a barbell with some plates. Just started Stronglifts 5x5 on Sunday, so I'm two workouts in and loving it so far, although I've started about as light as I can do (not even up to the weight of an Olympic bar yet, as my bar is a lot lighter and I wanted to start really light to work on form before the weight became significant!). Also trying to get the family a bit more active by getting them out on long walks, although with my daughter it's more an issue of trying to get her to sit still at times... I definitely qualify as a nerd, as I play flugelhorn in a brass band as well as being a Lego nut (in fact I have a side hustle selling used Lego parts on Bricklink, and our family holiday this year is to Billund in Denmark to visit Legoland and the Lego House!). Oh and I'm a Chemistry graduate. Talking of brass bands, I'm off to rehearsal in a minute so I'd better get a move on - I'll be back later to read some of your stories and get some inspiration!
