  1. thanks for the ideas I will try upping the volume. Think I am going to take a deload week, write up a plan and then hit it hard after that.
  2. thanks guys I guess I will just had ego keep pounding away at OHP, and be happy with a couple more reps rather than worrying about bumping the weights up. I might have to pick up some micro plates too
  3. I am having trouble increasing my overhead press. I was wondering if you guys have any suggestions, maybe some good accessory lifts for OHP. I do OHP once or twice a week depending on the week and i normally do 5 sets of 5 increasing the weight by 5 pounds each time.
  4. you can buy rings to do pull ups on if you are having shoulder or elbow pain. they allow your arms to move just a bit and takes some of the stress off of the joints. you can get climbing rings too and they you can do finger pull ups. on a side note I recently found out i can do more pull ups then chin ups. I think it might be time to work the beach muscle.
  5. i love fitocracy. my user name is (jkaylor)
  6. I have been lifting for about 7 weeks now and I am still seeing progress in my lifts. I was wondering if I should take a deload week to rest or if I should keep upping the weights till I hit a plateau and then take a week. I am having a blast adding more weight each time I go to the gym so it would take a lot of self restraint to back off for a week, but if it would help me get stronger I am willing to make that sacrifice.
  7. Thanks. I had to talk myself into finishing out my sets. I get nervous enough just working out around other people in the gym, but I was having a good workout on my other lifts and didn't want the RoS to leave a tarnish on my workout
  8. Rawr!!! Great job. Crossfit is a great for building endurance for running. Keep at the metcons and you will be smashing PR's all over the place.
  9. Had to do the roll of shame for the first time last night. My last rep on 185 and I couldn't get the bar back up. Some gym dudes asked me if I needed help, they were nice about it, but I just rolled the bar down my legs and reracked it. I thought about not finishing out my sets on bench, but decided to drop the weight by ten and get in my last set. My arms were not up to par last night I'm going to blame it on being dehydrated from the work week, but that is my fault too. Got to start keeping up with my water outside. Glad to get the roll of shame out of the way, was bound to happen at some time
  10. I would take a woman that worked out any day over a skinny stick of a girl. Don't listen to your grandma, just bitch about her to your friends or family when she leaves. My grandmother is constantly telling me how much smarter and successful my cousins are, and it is pretty hard to hear. I just smile and then vent about it later to my friends. Don't let her negativity discourage you from reaching your goals, she is probably just jealous. Keep pounding the rock.
  11. So few people do dead lifts at the gym that it makes me feel like a member of a special club. I have seen one other person doing DLs and they were using a curling bar it was strange looking. It's DL day for me again on Thursday and I can't wait to get in there and lift some stuff off the ground
  12. Wow nice job. Those are some awesome numbers for just starting deadlifts Crossfit is what steered me towards lifting weights. I had so much fun on the days we lifted big that i stopped going to crossfit to focus on lifting. Keep up the good work and you will be setting new PR's all over the place
  13. Damn. well I guess I will just have to keep doing them and get stronger. It's so much fun to look like a crazy badass in the gym
  14. I started lifting a little while ago, and when I first started doing deadlifts I absolutely hated them. I think I had to much weight on to start and I know my form was sloppy. Over the past few weeks I have dropped the weight down and practiced hard on perfecting my form (watching Rippetoe's videos). Better form has really helped and it is such a blast to get in the gym and do DL's. I know i still have some work to do, but I can't wait for it to be DL day again.
