Also, you should definitely be using your recruiter as a resource.  He gets a bonus if you do well, so he has a vested interest in helping you succeed and will have access to Army training plans developed to help specifically with this test.

I would use my recruiter, but my current situation makes it difficult. I was chaptered out(discharged) and have to wait two years before I can begin the re-enlistment process. I am almost to the one year mark, but I don't want to waste the recruiters time. I acknowledge that the whole point of the recruiter is to deal with people like me, who are currently not in the military and want to be or are in and want to change branches, it just makes me really uncomfortable because I am ashamed of being in the situation that I'm in. I should probably just use the 20 seconds of courage route to get this thing done.

I remember listening to a radio show that was talking about either a navy or marine recruit who quit training and when their buddy asked why he quit, he said he forgot why he was there. I only recently have had deja vue about this. Thank you for helping me think and talk this out.

  2. So this is what I recently came up with. I am interested if anyone has any comments or suggestions.

    Roll #1, how many sets:
    1-2: 3 sets
    3-4: 4 sets
    5-6: 5 sets

    Roll #2, how many reps:
    1: 4 reps
    2: 8 reps
    3: 12 reps
    4: 16 reps
    5: 20 reps
    6: 10 reps

    Roll #3, what exercise:
    1: Burpee
    2: Push-up
    3: Sit-up
    4: Half Jack
    5: Lunge
    6: Squat

    Roll #4, continue?
    1-2: Stop
    3-5: Do it again
6: Do it again and add the exercise(s) from current round

  3. I want to score a 600 on the new PT test for the U.S. Army. Why? It is a long story and I can explain, but that is irrelevant to this post. I don't mind using the Army's guide to physical training, but I feel like I look stupid doing it alone because it is designed to look good when done with a large group. The new PT test consists of 6 events:

    1. 3 deadlift reps,

    2. standing power throw,

    3. hand release push ups,

    4. (sprint, drag a weighted sled, run a lateral shuttle, carry kettle bells, and sprint),

    5. leg tucks,

    6. 2 mile run

Here are my basic ideas to train for each event that I know how I want to train for:

    1. Not sure on the deadlifts, if I practice with the real deal I will need to find someone to spot for me.

    2. Do the standing power throw.

    3. Do hand release push-ups and other variants of the push-up.

    4. I am at a loss for how to adequately train for the sprint, drag, carry thing. I should probably just ask the recruiter for advice, but I really am not interested in doing so.

    5. I would prefer to train the leg tucks with leg tucks, but I don't think I can reasonably.

    6. I need to just run for the run portion.

I could use some help figuring out how to make this into a comprehensive workout plan and how to train for most of these events.

I am at a loss and my wits end.

  4. Hey,

I have been racking my brain to come up with a workout that I want to do. I feel like an RNG based workout would be the best because it may be on the easier end or it may push me to my limits. For example, 20 push-ups being my max, one set of 20 would theoretically be worse than 3 sets of 10. I just have not been able to find a way to create a solid workout that has the ability to have RNG elements.

My other problem is with sets and reps or time based tracking, plus tracking in general. I prefer to have a number to aim at and not to failure, because 1 might be failure because I don't care to do more. (Which now that I think about it, I would do the same thing with a set number, I may just need an accountability partner)
