  1. Not so great this past week - we’ve been at my in-law’s for the holiday and I haven’t eaten the best. Or worked out beyond daily walks. But it’s back to normalcy tomorrow and I can get back into the swing of things
  2. Well, I just got an email today that blew my training plan... tough mudder twin cities has officially been cancelled. So that sucks. I saw it coming, but still... seriously getting sick of all this nonsense. That being said, I’m planning on continuing my training plan and have my own 10 mile event. And then run the TM next summer.
  3. Yeah, it’ll be something new, that’s for sure!
  4. Hello fellow rangers. We are living in strange times... Last time I posted, I said I was basically just going to try to be active daily and eat a veggie everyday. This was due to my wife being due to give birth. Well, she did (to a healthy baby boy) and I actually did pretty well. I didn’t exactly keep track of my “goals” everyday, but I didn’t miss two in a row. So on to new things. For this 5 week challenge... Training: I am signed up for a tough mudder full on July 11th. I don’t know for sure if it’ll still happen, but I’m training as though it will. So that being said, I will follow my training plan and not miss any workouts, training 5/7 days per week. Nutritional: this has been difficult, having a new baby at home means less time for cooking, and we’re still getting meals from other people, so I don’t have complete control over my diet. However, I’m looking to get back on track where I left off before having a child, so my plan is to level up to level 7. This means cutting out things like pizza, pasta, and bread, and making sure I’m eating protein and veggies every meal. I would add the caveat, I will still eat a small bowl of oatmeal everyday, I know whole grains like that are still good. I don’t add sugar or stuff like that, just some whole fruit, so I think that’s perfectly okay to add in at this level. And for a third goal to be working towards, I want to get more sleep. The newborn definitely causes problems here, but I think I can be getting 7 hours broken up through the day. Particularly if I stop watching the TV. And that’s about all I have for now. Best of luck to you all, stay safe, healthy and sane.
  5. And that concludes my first 4 week challenge. I didn't get around to my training every day, but got most days in. I did end up leveling up on my nutrition goal, so that's awesome. And my course is taking longer than I thought it would, so I haven't quite finished that yet. Overall, I would give myself a solid B. On the bright side, I did go ahead and sign up for the Tough Mudder Classic Twin Cities on July 11. That gives me about 16 weeks to train. Considering I've never run more than a 5k in an event, running the Classic (which is about 15k) will be quite the feat for me. I've already started running further: today, I ran 5.2 miles in an hour, so I feel like I'm already on my way. So that about wraps things up for this challenge. For my next one or two challenges, I'm going to really be cutting back. My first kid is due a week from today (crazy how time flies!) so I don't know how much time I'll have to spend on me. That being said, I still plan on completing 3 goals: 1) Eat a veggie everyday 2) Do something active everyday 3) Go for a run 3 times per week Gonna try to keep it nice and simple and get as much sleep as I possibly can!
  6. Not too bad. First week was a little off due to finishing up vacation. But since being back home, I’ve trained everyday and stuck to my nutrition plan (though I did have a cupcake the other day...) still need to get going on my course though.
  7. I’ll keep this brief: Training: stick to my daily training schedule, including my active recovery days, as I gear up for an obstacle course race this summer. This includes goruck hikes, various runs, barbell and body weight training and skiing/snowshoeing. Still not sure which OCR I want to do, leaning towards tough mudder, but contemplating spartan and goruck as well. Nutrition: complete NF level 6. That means cutting out pizza, bread, and pasta. And including protein and veggies every meal. Lifestyle: complete the final course from recertify my personal trainer certification, with the end goal of gaining clients and/or a personal training side hustle. Good luck all.
  8. Well, it’s been a tough 10 days. When I set out on this challenge, I had forgotten id be taking our church youth group on a winter retreat. Super fun, but pancakes, pasta, and fast food galore. That being said, I feel pretty dang good about my challenge. I read every day for at least a half hour. I ate a veggie at every meal. I ate bread and pasta 3 times, so didn’t quite make that, but I was close. And I leveled up on the handstand academy. All in all, a good week! Plus I got to spend time with some awesome teenagers and do some fun stuff like go to a water park and go sledding outside. Until next time
  9. Okay, so I realize the current challenge is going to be finishing up in 10 days, but I've been encouraged to go ahead and do a mini challenge for my fist one just to get things rolling. A little about myself: I've been a Rebel for about 7 years, when I joined the Academy and started working on leveling up my life. I didn't really know what the whole forum thing was about and just never got around to it until now. I am most definitely a Ranger; I dabble in a little of everything: barbell training, running 5k's and OCRs, body weight training, a little yoga here and there, NF handstands and rings, hiking, and just this year I started cross country skiing. I like setting up regular challenges for myself and meeting goals; I always like to be moving and doing something. I work as an EMT - two 24 hour shifts every week, which gives me plenty of time to work out and stuff. But my wife and I are expecting our first kiddo in less than 2 months; I fully expect this will make health and fitness become much more difficult, but I'm still gonna give it my best shot. That being said, challenges may be a little hit or miss starting late March. I'm also a fledgling personal trainer, no current clients, but hoping something comes of that shortly after the kid comes along. So, for my 10 day newbie challenge... Nutrition: my main quest here is to level up my eating patterns (I hate calling it diet) to level 7-8ish. Currently, I'm at level 4 working my way up to 5. At this very moment, I am on day 7 of 14 for: 1. eating a veggie with every meal and 2. no bread or pasta for 12/14 days. I did eat bread on day 4, and am saving the other day for the Superbowl. Otherwise, I'm feeling pretty good about this. So that being said, my nutrition goal for the next 10 days is to eat a veggie with every meal and to not eat any bread or pasta, except maybe at the Superbowl party on Sunday. Fitness: I have a lot of big quests that I want to complete here. What with the kid coming in 8ish weeks, I know I'll need to stay home more. So I'm going to focus on bodyweight training. Main quest: do 3 handstand push ups in good form. I am currently at level 11 in the NF handstand class. My fitness goal for the next 10 days is to level up to level 12. I will do this by completing a 30 minute handstand workout every other day starting tomorrow. I will intersperse these workouts with going on 2-3 mile runs. Lifestyle: I used to read a lot. Like a new book every few days. I don't anymore. My main goal here is to read more. So for my lifestyle goal for the next 10 days is to read for at least a half hour everyday. And that should about do it. Updates to come
  10. I’m from Two Harbors. and what exactly is a battle log?
  11. Thanks for the welcome everyone! I’m thinking for a mini challenge, I could more or less stick with my current training plan. I’m dabbling in a broad variety of activities right now, hence my choosing ranger.
  12. Hey friends, coming to you from northern Minnesota. Anybody else from up here in the frozen wood? question: I understand there are these 5 week challenges. Am I supposed to wait until the next start date to post something?
