nono, we try to become that way by BuJo-ing, big difference ;)

(at least, me, not sure about other BuJo-ers, maybe they really are that organised)

    Exactly! Lol

My paper brain allows me to pretend I'm organized... Or at least pretend I'm not DISorganized 🤣

No challenge right now, my life is too busy and too boring for any other challenges than "play some Guildwars in the evening". xD

I plan to do one in the new year though, have some more time then, at least in January. :)

Love the BuJo pictures! I don't have one, but I love looking at them, BuJo-people are always so organized, it's beautiful! :)

❤️ Glad you're still hanging out on the forums though!

PS Guildwars is good self-care! Especially with how busy you are.

Thanks ❤️ maybe I do indeed. It's a first step at least!

There are a lot of really cool advent calendars out there, like a lego one or building a Christmas city from paper one. Last year we did little Pokemon figurines for Emma that she still plays with frequently. From my own childhood I remember a picture one and a chocolate one.

You absolutely deserve credit, KB Girl! ❤️

    Sunday

Slept better but woke up feeling pretty meh, so wasn’t optimistic about my prospects for training and staying healthy.

Started feeling better at work and after the last class @Waanie helped me get to my training by handing me a kettlebell 😁 it’s funny how these kinda days can turn out to be pretty good training days. It all went well.

We celebrated Sinterklaas. It’s funny, even though we’ve gone shopping for gifts with Emma and we’ve told her from the start it’s all make believe she was still super wide-eyed and excited when Jaap knocked on the door and left the bag of presents there. I’m happy with this choice, it doesn’t seem to take away any of the magic and we don’t have any of the stress I hear other parents talking about.

Awww I love this! She still loves the spirit of the season without the make believe, that's so sweet!!! I think this is approach is perfect.

I haven't addressed Santa specifically with Pumpkin yet. He just knows him as character in shows... I've never told him Santa brings presents from him and his sister but I've also never explicitly said Santa is not real... 😅

It is a huge and common worry here in the States that your kid "ruins" Christmas for their peers because they tell the other kids Santa isn't real. There are a LOT of people who go all in on the Santa story at Christmas.

I hope you get more sleep and feel rested and stronger tomorrow! ❤️

    Oh!! Congratulations :)

I can imagine your bullet journal will look completely different under those circumstances! One of the reasons I love the idea of bujo-ing is that maybe one day my kids will look through them and see the notes I made about being pregnant with them and birth and all the things they said and did and.. you know x)

I’m curious though, which spreads were the most effective for you?

Thank you! ❤️ It took a little bit but I am excited. :D

By far the most successful spread I had was my workout tracker. I had a goal of 5 workouts a week until my birthday. It was partially to build the habit, partially to train for a 5k and partially to lose the baby weight. Bard suggested we tie a wardrobe overhaul budget to the challenge, which was motivating (even though I didn't get very far on the actual wardrobe overhaul.... 😕 )

Every week I had a spread for the workouts I did, and at the end of the week, I recorded it on the master spread. I spent a lot of time thinking through how to document this and it really paid off.

I also have spreads for the books I read, recommendations I recieved/found, a wish list/gift ideas, and others. But I didn't really keep up with any of them. It's obvious now that I added those just because I thought I should and not because they are valuable to me personally.

For this year, I definitely plan to do a Kon Mari Method spread but I'm still thinking how best to do it.

I also landed on a monthly spread that really works for me. All of my monthlies look like this now. :D

  5. Intro:

    Spoiler

    Hi, I'm Mezzo! :)

I'm a 34 geek who found NF forums about 2 years ago. I've been working towards a sub 30 minute 5k for the last year (PR 32:20). I used to practice Tai Chi and yoga and would like to get back to it eventually. I'm chronically trying meditate but haven't found what works for me post-kids yet. There is a druid within me, I just need to find her again!

My husband Bard and I have 2 lovely children, Pumpkin and Sweet Pea. My non-fitness goals are all about general homemaking (which I'm terrible at, but improving) and doing my best to nourish my family.

    Preparations indeed.

The second half of 2022 was a rollercoaster and 2023 has a big change in store for our family: a new baby boy.  Pumpkin and Sweet Pea are very excited and will be amazing siblings. Pumpkin is excited he's getting a brother this time and Sweet Pea wants to meet 'her' baby already. 🤣

The last couple months have been,,, rough. I'm feeling more myself now and I feel the need to get back to my habits so I can stay in this much better headspace. (Though running is now on the back burner, obviously. Switched to walking for now.)

    1. Set up the 2023 BuJo.

I've picked up a new journal already. Some of my 2022 spreads were really effective but others are embarrassingly blank... I need to evaluate what worked and what didn't. I also need to put some thought into what I need from my journal for the next 6 months. Its going to look different from last year's journal. And that's okay.

This is also lowkey 2023 goal planning with Bard. We do this every year in December. It's good, we really bond over excitement for the new year. The goals typically influence some of my spreads.

    2. Start Konmari Method.

This is probably nesting, but it's really overdue. We moved into this house when Sweet Pea was 6 weeks old. We've been here 2 years and if I don't put the house in order before baby gets here, it will be 2+ more years before its done. I can't handle another 2 years of barely contained chaos. Bard is on board and enthusiastic so we're diving in. Clothes start this weekend. The KonMari spread will be in the 2023 journal. :D

Yes! I havent actually finished my current one yet, and normally I would and just start a new one when its full... but I thought it would be nice to just start a new one at the beginning of a new year. Seems a bit wasteful, but really, if it makes me happy, why not? fresh start is very attractive atm.

If it helps, creator of the BuJo method Ryder Carroll recommends starting a new journal every year, regardless of where you are in the previous journal. I think his reasoning is more about being about to find things when you refer back to your old journals, but I think a fresh start is great reason too! :)

I love both of your goals this challenge. The phone thing is SO hard and very relatable! You are wise to recognize the impact its having and taking action. Thank you for inspiring me to do the same. ❤️

Thank you!! I actually got to 'build' it! It's a whole experience... It was the highlight of the trip.

All kinds of great things in this thread! I'm so glad you had a great time on your trip. I'd like to go eventually! And your vanity looks like a great creative space. Can't wait to see what else you do with it!

It was an awesome trip! 100% recommend for a Star Wars fan. 😁

    Good day today.

Ran 2.5 very slow miles in the Texas heat. I'm going to have to start planning my runs for early morning again...

Dinner is done and the sink is clean. Now I just have to o do bedtime routines and then I get a quiet evening to myself.

Bard is seeing top gun tonight with buddies so alas... Obi wan must wait until tomorrow. Excited for it though! 😆

    How's it going today, Mezzo?

Pretty good, all things considered! :D

    Quick catch up:

    Week 1 was a success!

Week 2 was fantastic for non-challenge reasons: I went to STAR WARS LAND!! 🥳 Guys, it was AMAZING. I loved everything about it. It was immersive and my little geek heart loved living out my own Star Wars story. 10/10 will go again.

I could spend so much money there.... but I just got a lightsaber and a cute shirt. (Sweet Pea got a coordinating shirt/dress and I got a little R-2 toy for Pumpkin. He loves robots. <3)

Bard and I had a wonderful trip for our anniversary. I did a couple workouts and I'm counting the 20K steps at Galaxy's Edge as a workout too. :)

This week: 3 workouts so far and consistently clean sink!

Listened to a good podcast while I was gone (on the airplane) Podcast #797: Overcome the Decision Traps Around Diet and Exercise | The Art of Manliness

It talked about how  excercising and eating healthy are much more complicated than building simpler habits, such as flossing your teeth. For a habit, you can pick a time, and  do it every day. But eating there can be so many factors that influence your decisions. She then goes into some of the obstacles we face and how to overcome them. Partly done my just naming the obstacle. Another part is then thinking through what came be done. It's a lot of the stuff we talk about here, and a good reminder.  I'm struggling with the rebellion part right now, which is why I'm giving calorie counting a break and focusing on strength

Oh I'll have to check out that episode. I love the Art of Manliness. It's actually how I found Nerd Fitness years ago! The guest are hit and miss, but Brett is consistently good. What other podcasts do you listen to?

I spent 5 minutes on my project, the butterfly wreath. I  decided to go another round on the NF creative journey. You start with 5 minutes and then build up. I didn't re-do it before, because I thought that was too easy.  I have done some creative work since, but not very consistently like I want to. For creative work,  I'm counting cooking  a new recipe, planting in the garden, scrapbooking. or the wreath.

I love this! Creative time is important and well spent. :) Will there be pictures of the butterfly wreath when complete?

    I really dig this challenge!

Love the goals structure and especially the bonus shopping spree because who doesn’t like that?

You’re gonna knock it out of the park. :)

Thank you, Heidi! :D  After a long spell of apathy, I'm finally motivated to tackle these things so I'm hopeful it'll all get done.

I can relate! I'm also in the process of settling in to our place in a functional way after moving haphazardly not quite a year ago. Good for you! Your Bujo is great and your writing is lovely. Have a great challenge!

I mean, is there a non-haphazard way to move? In my experience, moving is always chaotic no matter how organized I try to be.

Thank you, and welcome to Nerd Fitness. :)

  13. I'm back! :D

Recap: I ended the March challenge with a new 5K PR (32:20) and achieving a weight goal (back to pre-pregnancy weight!!). I took the April challenge off because my Bard was out of town for 4 of the last 6 weeks and I needed to focus on keeping the household running and my kids alive. I did try to maintain my workouts/runs and my weight and was mostly successful.

This challenge is going to be a little different. It's focused on a series of household projects/reorganization. We've been in the new house a year and a half now. When we first moved in with a 2 year old a newborn baby, we kinda just unpacked everything haphazardly. Now I'm going to rearrange our home to work better. Moving the kids to a different room, reorganizing the kitchen for better function,  setting up my vanity table in the bedroom... stuff like that. It's exciting in a boring adult way, but still!

    •  5 workout/runs per week
I'll be choosing a new race and starting a new training block during this challenge to work toward my 30 minute 5k. :)

    • Shine Your Sink
The end goal after the rearranging of the house to keep it nice. I read the FlyLady's book and perused her website and I like a lot of her stuff. Step one of her method is to get in the habit of keeping a clean sink. So at least every evening before bed, I will clear and clean the sink.

      • Kids' closet

      • Master bath
      • Vanity Table
      • Kitchen Cabinets
      • Pantry
      • Office
      • Paperwork/Filing System

    • **BONUS**
I have a shopping spree planned for my birthday in a couple months to refresh my wardrobe. (You may remember, I'm 'earning' the money with my workout/runs challenge.) If time allows, I'm going to start going through my closet and start getting rid of things that don't fit and planning what I'd like to add.
This kind of stuff does not come naturally for me, but I'm determined to do a good job. I want to like my clothes and feel confident in them. I did a color analysis with a friend so now I know the colors that look best on me. (which honestly sounds so dumb but I don't have an eye for that kind of thing, so having a third party  assess that for me is really helpful). I'm also doing some YouTube/Pinterest research so I know where to start as far as styles and cuts and stuff. And I'm trying stuff on at stores to see what I do like on me.
It's a process but I'm starting to get excited about it. I don't have any illusions about being an Instagram girl or anything but I'm hopeful that I can actually succeed on this project!

    That's enough for now.
