  1. I had meniscus surgery last year after suffering a tear playing (European) football. No other damage to the knee was found.. First they wanted to take out a piece, but then the doctor noticed the meniscus could be sewn together. This made the recovery time post-surgery a bit longer (crutches for three weeks compared to one for taking it out) but is more beneficial in the long run. I started physical therapy about two months after the surgery and continued PT for two months. Around five months after the surgery I was able to pick up serious football training again. However, it's pretty clear that recovery times differ from person to person and degree of injury.
  2. Hi there, this is my first challenge and I'm trying to get stronger and quicker while eating healthier. I'm on my way to recover my fitness following a knee injury. So hopefully this challenge will help me reach my goals! Starting Stats: 6', 130 pounds STR - 1, STA - 1, DEX - 3, CON - 2, WIS - 4, CHA - 4 Fitness goals - Do strength training 3x a week (3 STR, 2 STA) I practice soccer 2x a week, but I want to additionally do strength training which will hopefully benefit me in the other sports I do. The goal is to follow the beginners bodyweight workout which some additional weight training and ropeskipping. - Eat one healthy meal a day (3 CON) I don't eat that much and when I eat, it can be junk food like McDonalds or Burger King. But especially now as I'm getting a bit older I really want to change my bad eating habits. So I want to eat one completely healthy (fresh) meal a day! - Play every game of my soccer team (2 DEX, 2 STA) Before I got injured, I was a bench warmer for our local soccer team, playing between 0 and 45 minutes. As the new season approaches and I missed the whole of last season, my goal is to play in every game of the next 6 weeks, be it for 2 or 90 (the whole game) minutes. Life goal - Meet old friends for lunch or dinner at least once a week (WIS 1, CHA 2) I recently started working long hours and with all my other hobbies such as soccer and surfing the internet, I don't spend as much time with my old friends as I'd like to. So I want to make it a priority to catch up with old friends and acquaintances to learn more and improve myself instead of just playing Skyrim. I know these are not the typical weight loss goals, but I'm sure this challenge will help gain a bit of weight and feel stronger. For this first challenge I do not have numeric weight goals: I'd like to be able to do 25 pushups and not lose the weight I have. (It took me a long time to get from 120 to 130). And as my focus is on soccer and not on pure fitness, I think the adventurer class is perfect for me! -AlbZ
  3. Also looking forward to the aformentioned The Dark Knight rises, Skyfall and Hobbit. After seeing the trailers, I'm also very much looking forward excited the Great Gatsby and Gangster Squad. And Robert Downey Jr. in Iron Man 3 can't come soon enough As for series, I'm looking forward to the return of Psych and Boardwalk Empire as well as the new HBO series based on Neil Gaiman. Or anything else HBO does.
  4. Hi there, I joined NF a few days ago and am still a bit unsure how to structure my path to being stronger and healthier. I play soccer three times a week (Tue, Thu and Sun) and sometimes also play Basketball or other ball games. However now I would like to start weight training. So I would want to know if it's possible to strength train in the "Off" days or train the same day (longer, more tiring trainings) and if you think it's even possible to play sports and strength training? Also, I'm a bit unsure about my class, but that might be a question for another day. Thank you for any answers in advance! AlbZ
  5. Hi there, my name's Albert, I'm 23 years old and I live in the beautiful, tiny country of Switzerland in the heart of Europe. I'm 5'11 and approx 130 lbs (up from 125 recently) and my passion is football (the real one ). I practice twice a week and coach a youth team three times a week. I injured my knee last summer (meniscus) and haven't been able to play in a year. You can't imagine how I've missed it. And even before I got injured I spent most time on the bench as stamina and strength are some of my weaknesses. My team uses me to bring in quickness and a change of pace for the last 20 minutes when called upon (A normal game lasts 90 min). But being healthy again, I don't want to spend my sunday afternoons on the bench, but on the field in action. To be able to endure a whole game, I need to get stronger and fitter and gain some weight. I believe I got hurt because I wasn't able to stand my ground in a game situation. Finding Nerd Fitness was great, because it speaks to me in a language I'm familiar with. So after a while of reading the posts with so many pop culture references dear to me and some excellent tips for life and fitness, I decided to finally join the forum. It makes me get in touch with my teenage years, which I spent playing Warcraft 3, WoW, Gothic (an RPG) or Morrowind and reading Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings and watching Star Wars and other great movies. Getting older I replaced escaping into these beautifully crafted worlds with reading news and e-mails. So I also want to get back to being more imaginative again. I couldn't think of platform more helpful than this one here. So, like one of my heroes, Yoda, said: "Do or do not - there is no try." tl;dr I'm AlbZ, love soccer and want to gain weight, endurance and strength. Hello!
