  1. Alrighty. Who's up for a daily update? no running today (every other day ignoring Sunday- WHY CAN'T WEEKS BE AN EVEN NUMBER OF DAYS?!) but I did the AB work out. I'm getting better on planks, so I expect I will reach my goal of three minutes! Hopefully in the next couple weeks but in the 5 remaining weeks for sure. My legs are sore from the running and all the squats yesterday but it's a nice feeling- like I actually did something productive. I'll stretch way more tonight before bed to relax my legs a bit. Does anyone ever feel like they've lost motivation? I'll get all excited about working out and being generally awesome, but after a week and a half or some other arbitrary amount of time I'm just not so into it. Any advice? What's the best way to make it a solid habit?
  2. I am SO SO SO thrilled right now that this is a whole Doctor conversation. I guess NF is heavy on the Nerd in here:) I loved loved loved CE as the 9th Doctor. Especially that he was willing to die-ish for Rose. I think the reason everyone loves David Tennant so much is because we did have so much more time to get attached to him. I loved how quirky he was (he had so many royal shenanigans). Over time, I'm sure I will grow to love Matt Smith. Favorite companion (of sorts) so far would definitely be River. She gives the Doctor a run for his money. Favorite nemesis: weeping angels. They are creepy and I hate them. I also do not blink around statues any more. On another note: Today I started the week 1 day 1 of the C25K program. Veritate- I love the app! Thank you so much for recommending it! I also did 60 body squats and then arm rows. For the rows I upped my weight to 25lbs and did two sets of 15 for each arm. Dinner tonight was an awesome coconut squash soupy thing. It looked a lot like baby food, but it was sweet and very similar to eating a massive portion of mashed sweet potatoes. Tomorrow I'll focus on planks- try to do 2 min in 2 sets, 2 times a day. Tomorrow will be brought to you by the number 2 and the letter S. Yay Saturday! Goodnight, all!
  3. I'm just going to put it out there: I love dinosaurs and am glad to see you have an affinity toward them, too:) I love your goals and how specific they are. I also hadn't considered the coffee one before but that's something to keep in the back of my mind next time I go on a giant coffee binge (give it about another 20 minutes). These sound great! Keep it up and let me know how the waking up at 6:30 works. I'd love your tips on how you manage to actually do (I don't seem to have the self motivation/control/want to get out of bed in the morning-especially that early) Good Luck!!!!!!
  4. WOW so many comments! I feel like I might get a chance to sit at the cool kids' table, lol Veritate: I had no idea there was a 5K Runner app. I am totally excited to try this now! My usual method of self motivation is, "OK just run to that stop light. No no, you're right. The fire hydrant is closer. Go there. Whatever. Good enough. We'll walk to the light then run. Screw this. I'm going to take a nap in the grass over there." Seriously. This is a typical me trying to run outside. So I downloaded an app called Zombie Run where you pretty much just run but if you go too slowly the zombies will catch you and eat you. You can set it to a desired distance (it runs off of gps) with safe houses where you can stop to take a break or you can do a timed run where you run for say 20 minutes. It sounded neat at first but without actually being chased by zombies, I don't feel motivated. I definitely like the idea of having the 5K voice telling me when to walk and when to run. Also: agreed on having planking be a nemesis. Enemy of an enemy, right? Leadchipmunk/Caitriona/Sammie: Maybe I should take a different approach to my job hunt. My sister has been saying the same thing: just find something for now, you can always change later. I guess I'm just worried that 1. I would find a 'big-kid' job right after the 'temp' job and have to quit, and 2. the 'temp' job will hate me when I leave after a *hopefully* short amount of time. Sammie: If I get that wicked loft, you're invited to roller blade with me! But I will definitely take pictures. WOOT Laney: Thanks for all the support! As with the LeadCaitSam trio, I may try a new tactic. I had not considered a recruitment agency, however. That's something to look into, for sure! Also: I notice you're of the Time Lord variety. Caitriona and I already discussed it on her thread, but we're both fans of David Tennant (10). Who's your Doctor? Lurkers/Everyone@NF: Thanks helping out so much. I love this community of sorts and am super excited to meet my goals with your help! I will post later with my summary of today:emmersed:
  5. Haha, David Tennant is my favorite, too. Hands down. One pep talk coming up: Just do it. You have one session left; might as well ask him now so that you know how to do them correctly? This way you learn the right way, don't injure yourself, and don't waste your time doing it wrong. If all else fails and it turns out totally embarrassing, you can always switch gyms, right? And it is your last session with him, so it's not like you'll be forced to see him all the time. If you're way too embarrassed, maybe see if there is another woman there that is lifting (and appears to know what she's doing) and ask her for help. NO WORRIES! Once you ask him then you can start lifting and get your endorphins going. Endorphins make people happy. Happy people don't shoot their husbands. They don't. (Legally Blonde, anyone?) Seriously though, you're doing great! It sounds like you got a lot done, even if you didn't get to scratch off everything on your list. Keep it up!
  6. Awesome! Thanks Veritate!! CHECK IT OUT!! My posts now look so spiffy So today was day 2 for me (I started a day late) but I still got in a good work out. For angry birds, I leveled up on squats and back. I've modified my back exercises a bit though. I don't have anything for the inverted rows, and I honestly don't think I'd be able to pull myself up, so I kept to 20lbs and moved it to 40 bent over rows. I still got an arm workout doing 2X 20 so I think I will try 3X 15 next time. I'm starting my couch to 5K running tomorrow but I know it will make me miserable during and elated afterwards. I love feeling like I've actually done something! I wimped out during my planks today, but still managed to do a whole 2 minutes, even though they were spread out over a couple sets. I WILL get stronger. I WILL get my 3 minute plank without crying or throwing some sort of tantrum. I CAN do it. I checked out some apartments on the internet today (I'm mooching off my sister, did I mention that?) and found the absolute PERFECT warehouse loft that I would love to live in. I even showed my sister. Now that I have that in mind, I have so much more motivation to go out and get a job. I WILL find an awesome job. I WILL get that kick ass apartment. I may be forced to live like an adult and be responsible, but if I get that warehouse loft, I'm going to Peter Pan life and roller blade inside. Who says exercise and living independently can't be fun?
  7. I'm totally with you on goals 1 and 2. As for the vegitarian 3, I understand wanting to get back to the basics but still wanting those pseudo chicken nuggets. I've gone paleo, but I have been craving a typical baseball stadium hot dog (bun and all) for weeks. It's those little things that trip you up. I'm still impressed at how thorough you're being with your goals though. Now that I'm done with the business part, I'd just like to say that I AM SO EXCITED THAT YOU ARE A FELLOW DOCTOR WHOER! Pray tell, who is your Doctor?
  8. Yeah, people suck. I've had my fair share of comments, too. A couple things I try to keep in mind: -Fat kids are hard to kidnap. [so I'm safe, right?] but seriously -"People don't boo nobodies," -Reggie Jackson If you were invisible and absolutely alone in the world, that would be truly be sad. But you're a Rebel. People do take notice, but you've got all of NF to back you on this [sheesh, I'd piss my pants if I had to go against Staci]. Us fat kids have to stick together:) We will show them all! *insert maniacal laugh*
  9. Hey Hermit. So as the fellow unemployed, have you considered looking into working for REI? They're in the top 10 fortune 500 businesses to work for and they have great perks. Because it's really 'athletic' and fun, I thought it might be the type of job that helped with your fitness goals. I hear that if you work in one of the stores that they will pay for all the equipment and classes for your chosen hobby so that you could help sell that to customers. They could pay you to be a rock climber! Anyway just an idea... Otherwise I love your goals and determination! Good luck!
  10. So after I got off yesterday, I went back to NF and downloaded the angry birds work-out sheet. For anyone who has done it, today I will be a level 2 squats, level 1 push ups, and level 2 back and planks. I don't mind the back exercises/rows too much- they're tied for my favorite with the squats. But I managed to do the 30 rows with 20lb weights in 2 sets. Ultimately, I'd love to be able to do pull ups but that would take losing a bit of weight and a lot of back/upper body work. [i'll probably have "do 2 pull ups" on my 6 wk challenge] In other news, I thought I'd get a bit more specific about my goals, including where my points will go ~3 minute plank: 3 strength, 2 stamina ~2 miles running NONSTOP outside: 5 stamina ~Get a job: 2 wisdom ~Complete paleo NO CHEATS: constitution 3 I plan to work out with either the Angry Birds or a P90X video 6 days a week, Sunday being my rest day. As for my running training, I was thinking the couch to 5K program. Pretty much I would just follow that work sheet and see where it got me- whether I would need to adjust to get to my 2 miles within the 6 weeks. I see that I've gotten about 150 views so far, so I guess thanks for looking:) *Side note: I may be a little daft or inattentive, but where do I go to add my signature with my level, stats, quote, etc.?* Welp, back to working out then sending on my resumes:)
  11. I just wanted to comment that I absolutely love that you're going by Jabberwocky. I am seriously tickled by that. As for meditation- also tickled. I'm not sure where you're located but I know that there are places around the country that do free meditation classes. For instance, there's a yoga studio down the street from me that does a free group meditation on Tuesdays. Although I love just sitting in my garden enjoying silence and peace, there's something about going to a giant studio filled with strangers sitting on mats listening to a guy read obscure poetry. I don't know how you choose to meditate, but I just thought I'd throw it out there. But really, I just wanted to say good luck:)
  12. wow, quite the quick start!! I'd love to know more about the skirts and dresses. I'm personally a fan of polka dots, so they sound like a blast to do!
  13. OK, so I really have no idea who will actually read this or even how I will do this. I also know I'm a day late on starting, so Dominate Monday will become Dominate Tuesday And Days With The Letter 'D.' I'm Ena, and I'm addicted to 'comfort foods.' I've always loved bread and pasta (yay Italian genes!) but I think it's seriously getting to me now. I've been Paleo for two months though there are days I convince myself that brownie ice cream doesn't have gluten and isn't cheating too much. I recently graduated from college and moved out to the west coast where I'm living with my sister until I get my feet on the ground. That was in early June. It's now August and I'm convinced I must have time traveled because I don't remember this much time passing. I've graduated. I'm an adult. But why am I not acting like one? So here's my plan to take control of my life via the 6 week challenge: -Do a 3 minute plank (no belly down, preferrably without wanting to cry or complain afterwards) -Run 2 miles outside without stopping (I tend to psych myself out if I'm not running on a treadmill and can stop at any moment) -Complete Paleo WITH NO CHEATING -Get a job (meaning not just finding something to bide my time until my dream job as google doodler opens up) Let's hope I can do this! Where I stand now: Strength: 3 Dexterity: 1 Stamina: 2 Constitution: 3 Wisdom: 4 Charisma: 2 Time to work out!
  14. Hey, everyone! I'm new to the San Diego area (as well as NF and actually trying to get fit) but I would love to meet up with some (or all!!!) of you. Is the treasure hunt still an option? Perhaps geocaching (sp?) in a middle-ish location for everyone? I'm also up for a hike/run/anything! I'd love to get something going for the summer. PS- does anyone still read this?
