  1. Ugh - badly. We had ridiculous flooding rains here in eastern Australia, my brother and his family lost almost everything - car, house was flooded into the 2nd storey so they lost loads of things that they thought would be safe in the upstairs as the floodwaters have never been that high. We personally weren't flooded but after weeks with 100s of mm of rain a day I was just beyond caring about anything other than the basics of getting through the day.
  2. It's Sunday here, and time to reflect on how the last not-quite-a-full-week has gone. Goal 1: Tracking - Eh, this hasn't been great. The problem isn't tracking per se - I've been keeping a mental track of things - but I specified in My Fitness Pal. So on maybe two days it was fine and I tracked all my meals and snacks, and others I couldn't be bothered to deal with entering all the ingredients for dinner as a recipe when I was cooking, decided I'd do it later, and later never eventuated. So I need to be a bit more committed to this, and set aside some time to get some of our usual recipes entered. Goal 2: Exercise - I'm happy with how this goal has gone overall. Of the 6 days, I've done the foundation program for 3 and done a decent walk on one other. I had one day when I didn't feel up to the bodyweight but annoyingly it was pouring with rain (east coast of Australia is getting quite a bit right now) so a long walk was out of the question. I still did the school pick up/drop off walks, which are decent. Goal 3: Sleep - I stayed up past 11pm on Friday night, but I've made it to bed before 11 every other evening. Definitely my most successful goal this week. I'm not asleep by 11 (I cannot fall asleep quickly and envy those who can) but at least I'm in bed and trying to sleep. Clearly, my focus for the coming week is to get more full days of food tracked, rather than only 1 or 2 meals in each day, and at the least maintain my current adherence with goals 2 and 3.
  3. It does help, something about having to face it!
  4. I love those books, although gosh it has been ages since I've read them. Good luck with your goals!
  5. I've just joined, and even though I'm a bit late for the start of this challenge, I don't want to wait (old habit of waiting til things are 'just right' before I start). I'm hoping the challenges will be both the accountability and community I need to help me stay motivated. Goal 1: Get back in the habit of tracking my food/water intake so I can be more aware of what I'm eating and whether I'm drinking enough water. For this challenge I won't be trying to change anything yet, just get on top of tracking again, but realistically I find that when I'm properly tracking I do snack less. This is going to be a binary goal every day: did I track everything in MFP ? and if not, why didn't I and what can I do to make it possible tomorrow? Goal 2: Exercise - I used to do a lot of bodyweight exercises, so I'd like to start that again. Because I am out of shape and have a chronic illness, I'm going to start with Darebee's low impact Foundation routine. It is meant to be daily, and while I'd love it if I manage it daily, I'd be ok if I manage 4-5 days of that a week and a decent walk on the other two. Goal 3: Sleep - As my kid gets older and bedtime gets later, I've been pushing my bedtime off too, in order to get more 'time to myself'. Which is nice, but it isn't great for my sleep. I want to aim to be in bed before 11 each night. If I achieve that easily in the next two weeks, then I might try 10:45 for the final two weeks. So, that's my 3 goals for this challenge. First steps on the path to where I want to be.
  6. Thanks! I work well when I have accountability to others, so I'm going to jump in to the current challenge, even though I'm a little late.
  7. Basics: mid 40s woman, married with one kid, live in Australia. Overweight and not as fit as I'd like. Many, many years ago I used to read the Nerd Fitness blog. A few weeks ago, I thought 'I have got to get some community and structure to help me back on the fitness/health track.' A dim memory stirred, and I eventually found my way here. I have always liked gamification of goals, so I hope it will help. I think I'll need an online community for now - because I'm immunosuppressed, I'm not yet happy joining a gym or in-person group. Immunosuppression is due to a chronic autoimmune disease. That diagnosis several years ago spurred an initial push to improve the rest of my health - in a 'well if this is out of my control, I'm darn well to going to improve what I can' attitude, but ups and downs of chronic illness made it hard to sustain. By this point though, I've adjusted to my medication, my 'good days' outnumber my 'bad days', and my doctors are happy with my progress. Time to focus again. Still looking around and working out what is where and what goes on here.
