  1. Hello Nerdfitness community! I'm starting my first challenge with three ambitious but doable goals. 1. Lift 3x/ week. This should be easier since we a rack and bench etc. in the garage. 2. Eat mostly meat and veggies on work days. I work 12 hour nights and I used to do steamed veggies and chicken / eggs/ shrimp every night. Its not hard to keep my diet clean at work if I meal prep, but I've gotten out of the habit lately. 3. Cut up and split 3 trees before the end of the challenge. We have a lot of trees, which means a lot of wood to cut this summer as some of the dead ones need to be cut down before they fall on something (or someone). Cutting them down can be labor intensive, but splitting them with an axe and carting them across our lot is exhausting. While it sounds more like a chore, I believe it is probably a great workout as long as I am careful with how I pick things up and carry them. Planning to use habitica to track this
  2. Joining my first challenge late! Just stopping in to say hi. I gotta go , I'm already late for the challenge!
  3. Welcome from another fellow 40 yr old guy with 2 kids! see you on the challenge board
  4. Wow those came out way too big. Sorry about that ya'll 😕
  5. Woo hoo! We did it! After 5.5 hours of slogging through muddy fields in Missouri, our crew ran across the electrified finish line and completed the thing! Guess its time to head over and join one of the current challenges
  6. Thanks y'all. I'm 10 days out from tough mudder and my shoulder feels normal(ish) plus I have been shin splint free doing some short runs on the local trails. Hoping to do this thing and then make a longer-term plan. Looking forward to learning from you all on here!
  7. Hello all! I have run accross NerdFitness resources (youtube etc) for quite some time now but have never joined a forum of any sort before. In anticipation of turning 40 I signed up for tough mudder and have been training since August 2021. I had initially focused solely on lifting (squat, bench, deadlift, press) and gained some strength and felt great. Since January I have focused on losing weight and running along with bodyweight exercises. Now I feel terrible. I've had to take a break due to shin splints and shoulder pain. My hope is that I can finish this race without further injury and find a long term way of working out that works for me. Working in healthcare I have come to realize that as I get older I can either be in good shape or bad shape, but the middle ground between the two seems to get smaller as a person gets older. Maybe this is part of a midlife crisis or something , but I'm hoping to make a positive change as a result of it.
