  1. I get stomach problems all the time, I know all about this. Staying healthy/paleo with an upset stomach won't be easy. My go to meal when I feel nauseous is saltine crackers with ginger ale, and there's the classic B.R.A.T. diet (bananas, rice, applesauce, toast). Bananas and unsweetened applesauce might work. If your diet includes dairy, a glass of milk can be a great meal replacement (but can upset some peoples stomach, avoid dairy if you have the flu). Vegetables tend to be harder to digest, but you might be able to do steamed cauliflower. For meat, I would stick to plain baked/grilled chicken breast. Chicken and beef broth are very easy to digest and full of nutrients. Also some people have trouble with eggs, be careful with those. Avoid rich, oily, spicy, or complex foods. Think simple and bland! I think the most important thing is to listen to your body. Skipping breakfast might not be good all the time, but it's sure better than making yourself sick if your stomach doesn't want food.
  2. Too tired to say much here, so on to... Day 5 Summary Pretty decent day, sunburns still hurt, and boyfriend was being grumpy but overall not bad. Food: Breakfast - the last scotch egg, somehow not very filling today, I was hungry again much sooner than normal Lunch - Leftover pot roast and cauliflower mash Snack - Watermelon, ate just a bit too much, but it's so yummy Dinner - almond breaded spicy chicken legs with cali mix veggies, these turned out way too hot and I had to drink a huge glass of milk to get through it Workout: Beginner Body Weight Workout - last day of doing a single set, starting next week I'm pushing it to two sets. I added some weight to my dumbbell rows because I wasn't feeling anything (10 instead of 5) but I still didn't feel anything, not sure if I'm doing them wrong or I need even more weight. I still can't do a proper squat, I don't know what the problem is, I'll have to stick with assisted squats for now I guess. If anyone has any suggestions for how to improve your lifting forms let me know
  3. Thanks rexomnii! I was glad to be able to post pics, it makes it that much more motivating to loose the weight! Soon I'll get to post awesome progress picks and say "Look at what I did!" I can't wait for that Thank you so much for your kind words, I'm really loving being a part of House Stark!
  4. Thank you! I know I've got to push myself hard to get where I want to be The first days have been a challenge for sure, who knew a cravings for a simple bowl of cereal could be so strong? But the cravings are subsiding and I find myself wanting to cheat less and less as time goes on
  5. Hello everyone, and welcome new Starks! Today's the last day of my part time job, so I'll have more time to comment and respond to you all while I work on starting my career. I had a horrible day yesterday, so that's why I'm posting my Day 4 summary today. Woke up with sun sickness and sun burns on my shoulders, didn't workout because some personal issues popped up. But today is a new day! Time to get back on track! Day 4 Summary Food: Breakfast - Nothing, slept in Lunch - Gourmet Lunch Truck, lettuce wrapped burger with bacon and avocado (so delicious, didn't even feel like I was missing anything from not having a bun), french fries (they ran out of sweet potato fries after I ordered ), Mexican coca cola. I had already planned on this being my cheat meal, so still on track. Dinner - Chicken avocado soup, my boyfriend took over and made it Mexican style with grilled green onion and salsa verde, was pretty tasty! I felt kind of sick after lunch (probably from the french fries and cola), hope this will help me fight cravings in the future - to remember it making me sick. Workout: Nothing, some personal stuff popped up I had to deal with. Minor set back, got to get right back on the wagon for Day 5! Overall had a rough day, but that won't stop me from having a better Day 5!
  6. I am still eating some dairy, but not as much as I normally do. I sure hope these cravings pass after this week! I'll have to try that zucchini spaghetti, thanks! Okay, on to Day 3 Summary! Today was so crazy, I got to go to the local waterpark to supervise some kids. I was able to get a chicken salad from the food court, but man did everyone else's pizza and ice cream look good! But I resisted because I didn't want to have to tell you guys I caved in . I can't believe how much of a workout I got from chasing the kids around and playing tag with them in the lazy river* (I felt like I was running through wet cement). I was so tired I had to pass out when I got home, so no Body Weight workout today! Food: Breakfast - yet another scotch egg, only one left before I have to figure out something else to do for breakfast Lunch - Grilled chicken salad from the food court, no dressing. It was actually really good, the chicken was tender and there were tons of veggies Dinner - Leftover pot roast and cauliflower mash. I cooked the roast with some cheap red wine, and I think it ruined the flavor Desert - Freshly cut watermelon, yum Workout: Over an hour in the lazy river* swimming, running, and paddling (with and without an inter tube). Was so much fun I didn't even realize how much of a workout it was until I got home and passed out! My cravings aren't as bad today. I would still kill for a bowl of cereal, but I don't feel like I'm going to die without it (like I did last night). Hopefully that means the cravings are starting to go away! *the lazy river is like a big pool in the shape of a ring that has a current running through it. It actually makes walking or swimming more difficult because you have to deal with the current pushing you around. So fun though!
  7. Day 2 Summary Starting to hit my diet wall, I've never stuck with a diet past 3 days. The carb cravings are so intense Food: Breakfast - another scotch egg, this time with organic ketchup, yum Lunch - fasting Dinner - My pot roast! (finally) with some garlic cauliflower mash Desert - A mango, so ripe and juicy! Exercise: I didn't feel like leaving the house today so I busted out my stationary bike pedals and did that for an hour while playing animal crossing Does anyone else eating Paleo get cravings for carbs? How do you deal with them?
  8. No way! Walking 1.5 miles is an awesome goal! Killing yourself by jumping into a 5k could just demoralize you. I think slowly ramping it up is a smart approach (that's what I have to do!). I totally agree with this! As soon as 1.5 is too easy, do 2 the next week, then 3 the next week, then jog every few minutes, etc. Don't let anyone bully you into working out how they think you should! You do what feels right to you, just because it works for them doesn't mean that's how it works for everyone.
  9. Hello everyone! Just joined the group, here's my challenge thread. Going to post weekly summaries there, I'll post daily here though. I just started reading the books, I'm only about half way through Game of Thrones, so no spoilers please! The House of Stark is so perfect for this challenge, we really are stronger together, and winter is indeed coming. Here's my Day 1 Summary: Food Breakfast - Scotch Egg Lunch - Fasted Dinner - Popeye's Chicken* Workout Beginner Body Weight Workout 1 set, assisted squats and knee push-ups *I made a lovely pot roast that was supposed to take 5 hours...7 hours later it's 9 p.m. and it's still not done. I didn't have anything else prepared for tonight, so the boyfriend and I decided on fast food. I made it pretty much Paleo though! I had 'naked chicken' and cole slaw, no grains
  10. Hello everyone! My name is superultrakami, you can call me Kami for short. I've been a rebel for some time now, and have lost at least 10 pounds since I started. I will post my 'before I joined' pictures, my 'before this challenge' pictures, and some 'after challenge' pictures. I tried a challenge before (a long time ago) but never finished. I'm here to finish what I started. Aside from my main motivation of wanting to loose weight to be healthier and more attractive, I also want to get stronger and have better psychical endurance. A few months ago I applied to a volunteer Doula program at a local hospital, but I was rejected because of my physical weakness. I was totally heartbroken and tried to forget the whole thing. But I don't have to be weak! I can train, I can make myself stronger. I will be better! I am planning to update this thread with weekly progress reports. Here's some quick stats: Name: Kami Race: Hobbit (because I am short and I love to be barefoot) Class: Newb Age: 21 Gender: Female Height: 5'4" Weight: 131 Body Fat %: unknown (will get calipers soon, probably between 23%-25%) Main Quest: Achieve 20% body fat (or less) I believe I'm between 23%-25% currently. I think I must have been between 25%-30% when I first joined Nerd Fitness, so I'm getting there! To measure my progress in this Quest I will weigh myself once a week and get calipers to measure body fat. Goal 1: Beginner Body Weight Workout 3x WeekDays will be Monday, Wednesday, Friday. Starting Week 1 with one set, Week 2 I'll increase to two sets, and so on. For now I can only do assisted squats and knee push-ups, hoping to be able to do real squats and push-ups by the end of Week 6! Goal 2: Eat Paleo 6 Days a WeekStarting yesterday I will eat full paleo 6 days a week. I will allow ONE cheat meal during those six days (my boyfriend gets gourmet food trucks at his work once a week and I get a free lunch ). Water only on those six days (apart from cheat meal). Goal 3: Cardio 2x WeekRun with my new Vibrams (well, when they get here next week) at least twice a week. Try to pester boyfriend to run with me . My goal is to be able to run 3 miles without stopping by the end of six weeks. Life Quest: Apply to 3 Midwives for Apprenticeship I want to become a Midwife, so I need to apply for apprenticeship with some local Midwives. Submitting applications is always so scary! Motivation: I want to know what it's like to be fit and healthy. I want to know what it's like to feel confident in the way I look. When people compliment my appearance, I don't want it to be just because they're being nice. I want to earn it. I want to deserve it. Pictures: Back in August of last year when I first joined the Rebellion, my Before I Joined shots - and Last month, my Before Challenge shots (bonus puppies in the background ) - and
  11. My two favorite ways to eat them are sliced in sandwiches/burgers, or as guacamole on my taco shop food =D I was always taught to quickly ripen them in a brown paper bag in a cool dark place. You also have to eat them soon after opening them because they oxidize very very quickly (a little citrus like lemon juice will slow the process though). 12. New member in northern San Diego, anyone for coffee? <3
  13. For Tuesday 8-7-12 Sore as heck from Monday, especially when I sit down >.> Went a little over on carbs. Power walked 1.2 miles, half slightly downhill, half slightly uphill. Jogged for about 3 full minutes without getting an asthma attack! My boyfriend was with me and he told me how to breathe properly (he did track and field in high school).
  14. On Monday 8-6-12 completed two full circuits of Beginner Body Weight Workout at half reps. Ate about 1300 calories. Found this amazing site through another NF user, it's been so helpful - my DailyBurn Tracker profile TMI Warning!!! Highlight below to read I feel really really bloated today, has anyone else experienced bloating after starting an exercise routine? Or healthier diet maybe? End TMI Again, I'd love to hear any comments, questions, suggestions, love, etc
  15. You're already half way through the Whole 30 Challenge, that's so amazing! You can definitely finish it! Thanks for the kind words, and I agree: we can both do this! We got this =D
