  1. Since getting back to setting records is one of my goals...I'm back. Chasing that national bench press record in either of 2 classes. I need to add about 70# to my bench (getting it back to where I was 2 years ago) and that should do it. More to follow (hi everyone!)
  2. I've been shaving my head for a decade. Grew a VanDyke about 4 years ago. Do what makes you confident.
  3. Well last week was not good. Youngstown, to Dallas, to Fort Lauderdale. Only 3 workouts (I think) and 2 of those were kind of light. New Monday! Think front squats and overhead press would be a great start to the week. Let's see if the gym cooperates tonight.
  4. You still work for the big chip making company?
  5. A snowy Monday morning in northern Ohio. After I narrowly missed falling on my butt outside the door...I made it to the gym Total: 22,000# Bench 20*45,135,15*185,10*225,3*5*275 Kroc row 20*80,90,2*20*100 Goblet squat 5*80,90,2*5*100
  6. Unclear. Depends which part of the barn we use Sent from my Pixel 2 using Tapatalk
  7. And a video from last week https://www.instagram.com/p/BtYm2QIgwf8/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link
  8. Today's workout 2/16/2019 - South Orlando, FL Overhead press 20*45,10*135,5*155,165,3*5*175 Front squat 10*45,135,5*205,225,2*275,1*325 Landmine row 10*10,55,100,3*5*145 Face pull 10*40,60,3*5*100 Total: 19,850#
  9. So today was my 5th hormone killing shot. I celebrated by going to the gym and over head pressing 185# and front squatting 325#. Had to go to 2 gyms, since the first one did not have a squat rack. For newbies, I travel almost 100% of the time. I use whatever Anytime Fitness I'm near, or a hotel gym for my workouts. I've been doing this for over 6 years now. This has the effect of making my workouts very nonlinear (ie, I often don't know what equipment I'll have and I dont know the patterns of usage..ie when it's busy). I often have to adapt my workouts on the fly because I either don't have the equipment I want or someone is using it (and I refuse to do nothing while waiting).
  10. Do you see the photo of the cuneiform Egyptian tablet with a paw print in it? And one from Greece too I think. Cats have been messing with us as long as dogs have been helping us.
  11. so it's been a couple years since I was around much. My interest in the forum just drifted away. I'll see if it has come back. For those who don't know me... I'm wildross, one of the "oldies". I'm a farm boy from central Ohio who married young, had 5 kids, discovered technology and now works for Red Hat as an sales engineer. We've lived in central Florida since 2012, but moved back to Youngstown, OH to be near the kids last April. I still work in Florida (right now I'm on a plane from Orlando to Youngstown). I'm a cancer survivor (it's taken me 4 years to be able to write that). I'm currently on hormone suppression therapy for prostate cancer, so my testosterone is in the tank. Wife and I currently have 6 grand kids (5b1g) all of whom live in Ohio. We live next door to 3 of them. My goals for this challenge are to lift and log regularly. If we succeed at that, I'll do more next time. Edited to add: a bit of the back story
  12. the daughter we live next to has a large barn....we bought a play set for the kids around thanksgiving and put it inside to avoid the mud. Come spring, that goes outside and I think we start building a real gym...
  13. No. One leg is longer than the other. I have “a spot” of arthritis in the lower side of my back somewhere (or so I’ve been told). And I have had too many ankle sprains to count. It’s an observational thing....what have I been doing differently??? Oh, cardio (again). Jumping jacks and jump rope seem to be fine.
  14. Interesting. I’ve found that almost any cardio type activity (rower, elliptical, bike) causes my hip to hurt.
  15. What's the line from Mr and Mrs Smith? "I'm often surprised at the twists and turns in life" while they are dancing right before she tries to blow him up with the grenade in his pocket. Things are going. Moved back to Ohio. Still work for Red Hat in Florida. Still lifting, though 2018 was a pretty blah year for that.
  16. I’ve been trying to relentlessly ask my self...”Is the emotional/physical/mental energy that I’m going to expend on this going to realistically move me toward ANY of my goals? Am I going to get ‘value’ from it commensurate with the effort?” That means i have to have goals That means I have to be aware of what I’m doing (mindfulness) That means I will chose those things that move me toward my goals. It leads to a lot of introspection Great timing moving north too...
  17. I was thinking of you the other day. Was in Dallas and had dinner with John Meek who hosted the 4T lifting event. Wow...that was a long time ago... You’re in the land of fruit and nuts now?
  18. I thought every girl started planning her wedding around age 8??? Just kidding. Huge congrats to both of you.
  19. This is soooo right and needful. "An unreflected life is not worth living". And almost everything in our society lures us onward, faster, faster rather than stopping to think. One of my first judgements of any person is whether or not they listen to all (or at least most) of what I'm saying before they hit "Play" on their own monologue. 90% of people are too fast on the play button and miss out on true interaction. I just decided not to hire a guy as a coach because he started telling me what to do before I finished telling him my challenges. I know he's heard it all before and he probably knows what he is saying. That's not the point. Are you thoughtful enough to listen and think before answering. And if you don't listen to me, then you probably aren't listening to yourself either. A wise old owl sat in a an oak. the more he saw, the less he spoke. Why can't we all be like that bird?
  20. Our current cat is named Gideon because most of the time he dabs a paw in the water, then licks the water off his paw to drink. I've got him a few times actually lapping the water. (for those not up on the Bible...Judges 7:1-7)
  21. Been a busy week for sure. Just stayed in Florida for a change, but had an all day conference that I spoke at. Plus packing for the big move to Ohio. And fighting either a head cold, allergies or side effects of the Lupron injection. Feel "off" and nose/sinuses drain almost constantly. On the fitness front, the shoulder is starting to come around. I can overhead press w/o pain and I think I found the right position/form this morning to bench mostly w/o pain. Will post my workouts later.
