  1. Average run includes but is not limited to: LadyTron "Destroy Everything you Touch" Technotronic "Pump Up the Jam" Timesplitters FP "Disco A Go Go" Devo "Are You Ready?!" The Crystal Method "Name of the Game" Angel City "Touch Me [Rank 1 Remix]" COD Zombies "Twilight" C+C Music Factory "Gonna Make You Sweat" Kaiser Chiefs "Saturday Night" Rocky "Gonna Fly Now" Billy Idol "Shock to the System" And of course, Miracle of Sound's "Commander Shepard" I have no guilt for that one whatsoever. ....I have no regrets.
  2. Hobbies. Exercise is awesome, but seriously, I vent through writing or costuming. A creative outlet. Find something you like that works for you. Schedules help, especially if it's deadline based. Even a little daydreaming can take the edge off sometimes.
  3. Week two wasn't so great, and neither has been the start of week 3. Monday: Made it through my strength workout. Did the whole circuit. Increased the amount of squats and pushups by five. Still can only manage to do 8 proper pushups with good form. Tuesday: Didn't work out on cardio day. Felt miserable the next day. Wednesday: Made it through my strenght workout just fine. Did whole circuit. Thursday: Made it through 50 minute cardio routine. Added +5 min Friday: Off Day. Broke my sugar fast for the first time with Mcdonald's salad (disgusting) and a frappe. Not going to do that again. That much sugar was disgusting and made me feel miserable. I could feel it drag me down, and the sugar crash wasn't pleasant. Saturday: Ate horribly. Nothing to excess, but I did have chocolate for the first time in two months. I also ate pickles and swelled with the water weight. It was only half bar. Unpacked several boxes, cleaned my room, and carried my little bro for a bit for the rucking challenge. Didn't complete the whole workout. I had an asthma attack and felt miserable. Sunday: Again, didn't work out. Still healthy and no sugar, but I overate. Hated the fact that I missed the endurance run, since I don't know how much time I've gained. Today I ate horribly. I had cravings, and I just couldn't stop eating. I ate two s'mores, and broke my sugar diet with the marshmellows and chocolate on a week day. I drank a gallon and a half of water but no dice, which leads me to think it was related to stress and lack of sleep, so no more doing that. Also, I'm avoiding the scale because I know it'll be horrible. This is only a small setback. I'm shifting into turbo because it's time to step it up. This week I plan on working harder than ever and shifting to actual weight lifting again. On a side note, I did complete chapter 2 and most of chapter 3 in Wheelock's. I may have crashed my fitness/diet part, but my life goal is going well.
  4. Carried moving boxes up the stairs, unpacked a few, cleaned my closet, and carted my 148 lb little brother up the stairs twice. Not much, but it's all I got.
  5. I grew up with the gold cartridge too, even though I'm a '90 baby. For the longest time, all we had was a NES with Zelda, Super C, Castlevania, and a few Mario games. I didn't beat it until I was much older, but it'll always remember just wandering around the map. What's your favorite? Mine is probably ALttP, because it's the first one I completed.
  6. Yay! Not only a fellow LoZ fan, but a fellow player of Vampire the Masquerade! My old character was a Ventrue, though its been about four years since I've even played. I want to get back into it though. I miss it, but the people I used to LARP with moved. Nice to meet you and welcome to our community.
  7. Yes. I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that it can cure cancer. No joke about the hype. I'll have to see if I can find it again and post the link. I just need something low-impact to take pressure off my shin, and I despise stationary cycling.
  8. I have a list of six. I'm learning Latin and German for grad school. I want to read some people in their original language, so there's the Greek as well. I plan on moving to a Spanish-speaking country so I can learn by immersion, as I took 8 years and still don't have true fluency in the language. The failure irks me. Mandarin, Korean, and Japanese for their dramas, music, and anime. If I have any brain space left, Arabic and Russian are both very gorgeous languages.
  9. I am proud of actually sticking to my weight loss guns for a month, even though I haven't seen much progress.
  10. I completely agree. VGs are a big reason of why I am who I am. What attracted me was the stories. I've always been an avid reader, but what sold me for games was the immersion in the story. You get it with the writer/audience relationship, but I prefer games like Dragon's Age or Way of the Samurai where your choices matter. But even in other games, there is that close tie to the story, gameplay and text. The writer/audience relationship is still there, but the audience has more say in a way, by being able not to play the same game every playthrough. Even in linear games, you can always go through a different path or some such. Video games are more than mindless entertainment. Video games are the myths and legends for our generation. There are works of fiction I would deem epics, (Sandman, Star Wolf, and Wheel of Time come to mind) but how many people actually read them? Granted, I'm an rpg and action/adventure gamer for the most part, but true epics in the classical sense of literature don't exist anymore, except in video games. Not all of them are like this, but I get this sense of scope even with things like CoD. My little brother, a notorious slacker, found his love of history through games like Assassin's Creed and World at War, and he's now going to teach history, fostering others' love. Sports games call out to the hero in each of us. Puzzle games allow us to overcome challenges. It takes patience and focus to finish a hack and slash, or even grind. -shrugs- Sure, there is a lot of negative things associated with it too, but hey, as Aristotle said in his Nicomachean Ethics: "Too much, by definition, is really too much." Not really. That's more of a really glib paraphrase, but...ah yeah. Moderation is key in all aspects of life, be it alcohol to zebra cakes. As for how it's shaped me: They taught me to follow my dreams, even if I'm from a small farming village.
  11. Sunday before challenge start: Endurance Run. I think I didn't drink enough water that day, as I was only able to go 4:37 at 6mph. I overheated and almost fainted, so yeah, made sure to drink plenty of water before working out the rest of the week. Monday: I did both the body weight and my running exercise. I finally made it twice around the whole beginner circuit. I upped my time on the treadmill to 40 minutes, cutting back on my running 3 minutes then walking 1:30. Sunday scared me a little. I either didn't warm up enough, or over trained; either way, I acquired a shin splint. Most annoying. Tuesday: Didn't work out. Wednesday: Didn't work out. Ate one muffin and one slice of banana nut bread, (total about 300 calories) messing up my diet goal a little. Felt a little down since it's the first week of the challenge. I did, however, have the self-discipline to stop only at one apiece, which made me feel a little better. Thursday: Made it back in action for the full 40 minutes. Did the running same as Monday, except I made upped my time again, running 4 and walking 1:30. Became frustrated at my lack of endurance. Thought overtraining might be the problem. Friday: Off day. I did dance medium intensity for about 10 minutes, just for fun. Saturday: A powerful day. I made it through all three circuits of the body weight challenge. Did 8 proper pushups before doing 2 kneeling ones on the first circuit. The second and third round were hard, 5 and 5, and then 6 and 4. respectively. Decided not to do cardio because of threat of overtraining and to give my shin time to heal. For the mini-challenge, I did 3x10 bench press for the "push" part of the exercise. Sunday: Endurance run. I upped my time from 7:00 to 7:14. I felt frustrated in the fact that I only added fourteen seconds when I need to add 13 minutes, but happy that I indeed added some time. Shin didn't hurt at all. Finished 23 minutes in 5/1:30 intervals, walked at 3mph the last 14. I didn't work on my life goal at all, other than some cursory reading of the second chapter. I did finish applying for a job and even got called back. I'm waiting to see if I got an interview. Moved the cleaning/unpacking project to next week. It's been ridiculously hot, 103-112 degrees in the central valley, so I haven't been doing my walking, since it's above 90 even at night. Ugh. Next week is supposed to be cooler, so hopefully I can pick it back up. All in all, I feel okay about this week, but as I rebel, I know I can push harder.
  12. Thank you realbrickwall. That made my day.
  13. Thanks guys. It's just a little hard to believe bouncing up and down helps you burn calories, but hey, all for cardio variation. I'll add it to my workout. Rule number nine: We question everything, lol. Yes, I've been running on the treadmill, but I didn't warm up enough on Monday and I've been working out with a shin splint all week. I can't just not workout, especially during the challenges, so hopefully the low impact will help.
  14. Legacy stares at the imposing castle walls. She knows she has her fellow teammates and Rangers with her, but the idea seems imposing. Still, she grits her teeth and sets to work. There seems to be a stone block of about 50 pounds that's a little loose leading to the courtyard. She might be able to squeeze through it. Looking around for enemies, she pushes the block several times. Suddenly, it shifts! Added 3X10 50lb Bench Press to my strength training workout today, with the intent of permanence. I struggled, but made it! I've been meaning to do it, but kept bowing out. This was the impetus that I needed. Thanks!
  15. Is it a good source of exercise? I've been reading a lot of things that say it's really beneficial. I haven't seen a thread about it here. I was given a mini-trampoline by my sister a while ago, and it just kind of stayed in storage. Should I add it to my routine?
