  1. Thank you for the advice, everyone! I will indeed pay attention to how my bod feels. Good to know that a lot of you are doing 6 days/week with good results--and I'm super impressed!
  2. SIGNIFICANT OTHER HIGH-FIVE OF SUPPORT. But seriously, cool blog, Ben. We can do this!
  3. Hi gang! So for this six-week challenge business, I'm working on training for an eventual 5K. I'm running every other day, and thought that on my rest days, I'd do bodyweight arm workouts. However, I also would love to do the lower-body bodyweight workouts. My question: Is it better to have a COMPLETE off-day from running, with no strenuous activity and no bodyweight training, to let my muscles heal/rebuild? Or is it better to do the bodyweight workouts on my off days, as working out my leg muscles means stronger legs, which means better running? Any advice here would be awesome.
  4. Thanks, Scooter! I love almond butter, but hardly ever remember to grab it. This challenge is definitely the time to change that. Do you have a favorite brand? Yipe, gang. Started running yesterday, felt like a boss, then boom. Got to work this morning to find that a few people decided today was Bring Delicious Unhealthy Patries to Work Day. I managed to avoid them, but hnngh. It's always right after you buckle down that this sort of thing happens.
  5. Welp, this is absolutely awesome. Good luck! The diving thing is so cool. (Also, I don't know if you're even into this sort of music or if you've already heard of this dude, but the guy's done some pretty sweet stuff with the old Ocarina of Time tracks, and it adds up to some great workout music: http://ephixa.com/album/zelda-step)
  6. Oh, snap! It sounds like you're already doing a ton. Nice momentum going into the challenge.
  7. TERM PERSH ERPS, UNERT. I definitely laughed when I saw your thread title. And awesome--having graduation looming in the future probably gives an extra boost of motivation!
  8. That’s it. I give up. I’m doing this because after reading NF for 8+ months, I’m still waffling between AW-YISS-WORKING-OUT and yeah-but-at-least-I’m-eating-paleo-so-it’s-cool-if-I-just-sit-here-right? So this is it. Hi! Background: My name’s Katherine. Once upon a time in high school, I could huff through a 5K in around 30 minutes. Now I’m lucky if I can get through a mile, without stopping, in 14 minutes. Ick! Nerd Cred: 4+ years of DnD adventures; fangirl of all sort of things; general gaming nerd, internet meme connoisseur, guardian of grammar. Oh, and lover of British television. With a considerable emotional attachment to the Assassin's Creed series. Class: Ranger – endurance and strength. Also, Aragorn. Also, bows. Goals: H’okay. We have: 1. Run 5K in ~30 minutes, without stopping. 2. 30 regular pushups without collapse/complaint/internal combustion. (I’m at 12 now!) 3. Have ONLY ONE dietary cheat day per week (except during GenCon, of course). Not little bits scattered throughout, as is the current guilt-ridden norm. 4. Life goal: Finish editing a big writing project thingy I’m working on. It’s close. And has been for months. The plan: 1. Work with Hal Higdon’s running program at the Novice-to-5K level. I started it once and felt it working, then stopped. Cleh-ver. 2. Do the bodyweight arm-strengthening exercises on my off-days from running. 3. Stock up on paleo-friendly snack food so I’m not tempted to munch on crap. Usually my downfall. 4. Give the writing project to friends. Actually let them read it. Appreciate and utilize their generous feedback. Set aside AT LEAST 20 minutes EVERY NIGHT to work on it. Nice to meet you, everyone! So freakin' excited to get started.
